Well, it all depends on how they are communicating their opinions to me. I respond in a way I believe is appropriate for the situation. If insulted, I'll return the insult, though I wish I could refrain from doing so sometimes. Besides I was talking about bashing US, not Them. If THEY are bashing US, by all means say whatever you feel is appropriate.

I used to do the same, but with the advances in bullet technology, I'm not so sure that much is needed for bullet penetration anymore.

Bashing. We are developing a reputation for bashing. Bashing isn't much good for hunting, in the woods or in public.

"I know I'll probably get some harsh comments ts from this but ......... Let the bashing begin.....lol" This is part of the post from a new member on the forum. It's a sad fact that firearm owners and hunters do have a reputation for bashing others for their opinions. Even a newbie to the site expects it when he simply asks a question that should be capable of drawing a civil debate. A lot of us are concerned about the image we present to non-hunters and anti-gun folks, but don't seem to realize the bashing attitude doesn't elevate us above the caveman level either. Just an observation guys. Let the bashing begin! LOL!

Some of the handgun cartridges legally allowed for deer hunting in NY have less energy than the 3" .410 slug.

Very instructional fasteddie. Good Job!

Some .410's are designed to shoot shot shells as well as .45 Colt. If the gun is designed for it, it isn't a safety issue. Most .410's will not shoot anything but the shot shell safely though. I don't think that is the reason they are frowned on for deer hunting. It has to do with it's limitations. With a good .410 slug, the firearm has the energy to be capable of killing deer at limited range. It may even be a good choice for a very small young hunter, or a small woman, due to it's low recoil and muzzle blast. That being said, it really only qualifies for deer if shots are kept within it's range limitations. Bow hunters are well aware of the range they can effectively kill deer, and usually practice a lot. But many gun hunters think their firearm can effectively shoot farther than it really can. IMHO, the .410 slug gun is limited to 50 yards or less for deer hunting.

Amazing? Seems quite simple to me. People on here not being held accountable to what they agreed to in the terms of service is what's really amazing. But then again, after thinking about it, not so much.

Nobody thinks a firearm solves all the world's problems, but it sure as hell can solve the problem of being totally defenseless when you need to defend yourself. I'm pretty certain we will find out if there were CCW holders around that were armed. I believe we will also find out why they didn't help. It may not be such an obvious conclusion.

It is true the college was not a "Gun Free Zone". It did have a policy that seems to prohibit firearms on campus, with it's exstensive verbage against all types of self defense options. However, the one little phrase in the policy, that may have gone unnoticed by many with a permit to carry, "except as expressly authorized by law or college regulations", allows concealed carry by those with a permit. My question then becomes, why was there not a single student in the shooter's area that had a firearm to defend lives with? Was the general feeling on campus one of hostility towards concealed carry? Were there unspoken penalties for doing so? Was the college generally hostile towards it? I hope we hear from some students on the campus who might shed some light on these questions.

It will certainly give the media something to distract the public's attention away from Russia bombing Syria, won't it?

Why is info on the shooter being withheld at this point? I suspect the administration is working to put a spin on the situation. Something about it must not fit the gun control agenda.

Your Top Presidential Candidate?

Woofer, Ben Carson is the brilliant black man who used to be a brain surgeon, and he's a Republican. You're thinking of Bernie Sanders. -

I'm currently thinking Ben Carson would be the best POTUS candidate the GOP could offer. -
You just jinxed yourself for the entire season, if not life.

The problem with the regs is the confusion. It's getting to the point hunters must have a law degree to be sure they understand them. They are not laid out in the most user friendly manner on the website, nor are they easy to use in print form. There are changes every year and to fully understand all of the regs with complete confidence, requires a lot of time reading them each year and/or every time a hunter wants to hunt something new or different. The NY DEC is too heavy on the legal wording and explanation of hunting regs and to light on making them clear with everyday language. So, naturally, whether to save time, or be confident in the understanding, this forum is going to get questions.

Is Verizon anti-hunting?
Mr VJP replied to adkhunter71's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I think it has to do with profit, more than anything. If only a small percentage of their viewers watch these shows, they may be motivated to drop them. The cost to carry them is the same as for a more profitable one. -
BTW, the famous Benoit clan from VT hunt deer by tracking and have taken many monsters specifically using that method. They also used only Remington pump action rifles with peep sights only. They usually took shots at close range at running deer. That may be a good option for you as well.

I hunt in NY. I use a Kimber Montana in 7mm-08 in the Catskills. It will take any animal that presents itself without a problem. If you're going to be in the Daks, a nice light rifle with a compact 2x7 or compact 3x9, chambered for .7mm-08. .308 or .338 Federal would be ideal IMHO.

LOL! I don't hate NY son. I don't like it's government. Understand now? Good Luck pal.

For me, moving back to NY would be like marrying my ex-wife again.

For many upstate NY residents, guns are a very big part of their lives. So are Freedom and Constitutional rights. NY is a state that has proven it does not trust it's responsible law abiding citizens and would be happy to be more of a Police State. That fact is going to effect more than just the guns in your life. Guns are not the only aspect of the lives of people who can understand what an attack on their gun rights is all about.
