X2 . The farm I hunt still has standing corn but most of the deer have been in the apples. I got a deer this past week end and he had apples in him, no corn.

Two buddies are hunting down in Portville this week. They reported in last night and are seeing the same as you. One of them took a big doe, but the bucks they see are small. Clicking horns.. half a$$ chasing does. No big ones yet. I would guess pretty soon.

I use a M,A.D. heat bleat. You blow into it like a grunt call so you can make the call as soft or as loud as you want. I also like it because its quiet while walking through the woods. With the cans you have to make sure the cap is on securely if not they make noise when they move around in your pocket or pack.

Looking for a track driver rifle.. opinions??
ants replied to apoallo's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I have a Rem. 700 in 30-06 and a Ruger m-77 in 7mm-08 (both lefty's) Both real good guns and very accurate. I sort of semi retired the Remington since buying the Ruger. The 30-06 performance speaks for its self but I really love the 7mm-08. Lighter recoil, accurate and seems to drop deer as fast as the 06. my 2 cents -
I took a buck Saturday morning. (Onondaga Co.) He came sniffing out a trail that does had come down about 20 mins, earlier. He wasn't totally on fire but he was following them for sure. This week end should be good!!

Havana blossom...works like a charm

Hear ya. my guy takes the number off of your order sheet ant staples if to the deer ear.

Sounds like I'm getting a good deal. My guy charges an extra $10 to vacuum seal, but I just go for the basic cut and freezer paper. I separate the meat -steaks, chops burger....etc then put those packs into a big brown paper bag. No freezer burn 2 years later.

mmmmmm cuuube steak...Try sprinkling a little parmesan cheese on them right before they're done. oh yeah

For those of you who don't cut your own deer, what do you pay for a cut and wrap. No sausage or anything extra. I pay $50 but I called I guy today who lives a lot closer than my usual guy. He wanted $75!! I've been using the same guy for a while. Just wondering if Im getting a real good deal with my guy or if the other guy is nuts.

Amen brother. I got a deer over the weekend and after tracking it for about oh ten feet or so I started thinking to myself "I hope this doesn't take long" It ended up being a short track. Happy..Happy

Obama's record on gun control
ants replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It's like when cities have a "gun amnesty" program to "get guns off the street" LOL Turn in your gun, no questions asked, and get $50 for a long gun or $100 for a hand gun. For some strange reason no gang bangers or other criminal scum ever show up. Know who does? little old ladies who want to turn in their dead husbands guns, poor people who want money for their old beat up long guns and crack heads who try to turn in b-b guns because they think they are real. But the news article will read, "150 dangerous guns taken off the streets" What a freaking joke. Big publicity stunts, thats all those things are. -
Obama's record on gun control

Didn't they go door to door confiscating guns in New Orleans right after Catrina? Think they did. I know it would be way harder to do that on a national level, but it did happen. -
Obama's record on gun control

I said "who ever is in charge "because I wanted to get away from making this an Obama Romney thing. -
Obama's record on gun control

Anyone think it's possible for, who ever is in charge, to tax the crap out of guns and ammo. making them so pricey that most people cant afford them? A $400 gun is now $2000? a $20 box of ammo is now $100? Just asking -
I have had good luck with doe in heat lures. Tink's 69, code blue, code red and a few others. But I think that you have to realize that for the most part you have a small window of opportunity with these scents. If a buck is horned up enough and without does, I think he will come into it. If a buck is with a hot doe or on a hot doe trail..forget it.

Well the web sight wouldn't let me onto the report page so I called again. After the second call I just started hitting tag numbers that I didn't have in my back tag, assuming that one of those must be the one. #3 worked. What a pain in the a$$! I have never had a problem before. I would have given up but last year I heard that the DEC was hitting deer processing places and recording tag#s. If a recorded # was not reported the person would get a fine in the mail. Don't know if it's all B.S. but why chance it.

Maybe its an age thing. Some places, upstate, they scan my ID when I buy beer and believe me I look waaaay older than 21.

Never heard of that.

Obama's record on gun control
ants replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Not saying that he would repeal the 2nd, amendment but his past record on gun control is worth looking at. Making gun control legislation part of his reelection campaign wouldn't be a very smart move, he would lose a lot of people on that issue. IMHO -
Sweet looking rig!! Congrats..I haven't owned a Ram since 08 but my brother and three hunting buddies have owned a bunch of them with the Hemi....nothing but good.

Whats the diff. between regular Rage and the extreme??
-
I gave the Rage (regular) another try Saturday morning. I hit a six pt. just behind the shoulder and this time they worked great. Giant hole in and out. He only went maybe 30 yards. Looked like someone stuck a big sword right through him. Hit him in the boiler room and stay away from the shoulder. The new chisel tips should be real good.

I wear a wool or wool blend (not too thick) as a first layer then a cotton sock over them. The cotton will pull the sweat away from your feet. Combined with a decent pair of insulated boots you should be all set. Works well for me anyway.
