If its something that he/she will outgrow in a short time anyway, look into one of those Chinese makes. I got my son a Kolpin 90cc when he was about 10. I think I paid about 1200 new.after a couple years he out grew it and I had no problem selling it for around 800. I hd zero problems with it. People are always looking for good, used kids ATV's, A lot of the Chinese machines are not bad for the money and resale value is high. Look on line. Some of the Pep Boys around me carry them too.

Every year a few dopes go out on Oneida Lake too early. Last year, or was it the year before?, a bunch got stranded on a huge chunk of ice that broke off and floated away. No was was hurt, but they had to be rescued and lost tons of gear. It could have been a lot worse. Im sure its the same everywhere
