    Who would

I am a meat hunter: Buck or doe...down they go!
  2. With all due respect....I suggest that there is a lot of bullshit showing up in this thread!
  3. Short list: .308 Win, 12 ga., 20 ga.
  4. Right on, ants....Any leading from slugs could be easily removed.
  5. It would appear that the "Strong Support" mentioned here is a figment of someone's imagination!
  6. Lawdwaz...I think you are onto something: The AR guys are hunting for bragging rights. Many of us...I, at least, hunt for sport and meat and can get much enjoyment out of bagging (or helping someone else bag) a healthy spike or 4-pt. Let the "trophy hunting boys" do what they want...just don't force me to do the same.
  7. Pygmy....Your setup is similar to mine. Since I am primarily a live bait fisherman, my line is 6 lb. Stren in Hi-Viz Gold...my favorite reels have rear drag adjustments...my hooks are tied on 14 lb. (6 lb. diam.) Fire Line...favorite bait: stonecats, hands down!
  8. To reiterate: I regularly hunt deer with three smoothbores: a 12 ga. Ithaca Deerslayer...a 20 ga. Ithaca Deerslayer...and a 20 ga. Remington 870. Any of the three is good out to 75 yards. For where I hunt...that is enough!
  9. No, I have never fished the Mohawk.....Closest I get is the Rt. 20 bridge, quite aways upstream on the Schoharie. I have a buddy who does fish the Mohawk...He says there are some awesome smallmouths in therer. (Of course, he never invites me to go along on any of his fishing trips!)
  10. Whacked the smallmouths again this morning: Three biggest were 17"...18"...19.5"; those are real bruisers for stream bass!
  11. Must be a King Cab....got the throne!
  12. Some thoughts on your exercise regimen: include pull-ups...bent rows...reverse flys...and buy a rowing machine.
  13. I love my smoothbore Remington 870 20 ga. and my smoothbore Ithaca 37 12 ga. My favorite slugs are the old Active slugs...or the newer Fiocchi and Truball slugs. For my type of hunting, they work just fine!
  14. I usually just carry one extra round in each front pants pocket. Yes, they do jingle-jangle a bit...and the tips get disfigured, but that's OK.
  15. Wow....Nice Fish!!!!
  16. Wow.....Did it again today: a limit of smallies, along with one nice walleye. Water was lower and warmer than last time, but stonecats did the trick.
  17. You have to be kidding me...A quote that puts Joe Paterno in a good light??? He was a dirt bag!
  18. Schoharie Creek......Yup, it's low...real low right now, but the smallies were really feeding yesterday. I will probably go back again on Thursday. I'm stockpiling fish in the freezer for our annual fish fry...usually 100% smallmouth bass....Good Eats, for sure! (Note: We usually feed 40 people +/- at our fry: Fried fish...homefries...beans...and cole slaw, along with whatever guests show up with. It has become an EVENT!)
  19. Agree that pics would be great, but I simply do not know how
  20. Water is way down, but bait (stonecats) was easy to come by. Started fishing around 9:30...had my limit (5 fish) filleted and on ice by a little before noon. By my standards...that's a good day!
  21. Whipper-Snappers??....Not all of us: My 46th is coming up in August!
  22. Congratulations!!! (Absolutley stunningly beautiful bride!!!)
  23. Sorry for the length of this. It is part of my RIVER TRILOGY, describing my experiences on my three favorite fishing streams: E. Branch Delaware, Beaverkill ("BEAVERKILL...MY BEAVERKILL", completed awhile ago) and the Schoharie (a work in progress).
  24. Ahhh, Dave....You read my mind!
