  1. What are you saying, Grouse?....Are you suggesting that the left (whoever that is) is tolerant, while the right (again, whoever that is)is narrow-minded and intolerant?
  2. You do not mention oven temperature. I cannot imagine putting a venison tenderloain in the oven for ten minutes!
  3. You have Schumer pegged right....He is a slug! As you suggest, this and like-minded bills have the potential for turning law-abiding citizens into criminals overnight. Let's hope this doesn't pass!
  4. I, too, can agree with Bill...with one reservation: I buy ammo online. I like such purchases to be my business...with me and the dealer knowing...no one else. Now, I have not, and will never be ordering 1000 rds of any kind of ammo, but I fear, nonetheless, that I will be placed on some sort of govt. "watch list" if this law passes and I buy ammo online thereafter. I do not like govt. watching over my shoulder.
  5. I, too, fished the Delaware (East Branch) with my Grandpa...55, or more years ago. As I recall, the shad ran in late April, early May. This is a great pic....location??
  6. They don't just issue DMP tags....You must apply, but with the lifetime license, there is no charge to apply.

Taking kids along on a hunt is a lot of fun. Yes, they can be noisy....but they can also be amazingly quiet once they get "into the game". I guess if I had the choice of leaving kids home and shooting a really big buck...or spending an unsuccessful day hunting with kids, I'd take the kids. Kids trump game animals any day.
  8. Latest concealed carry thread got me thinking: Are laser sights good or bad on a defense pistol that must be brought into play quickly and fired quickly/accurately. I have absolutely no experience with such sights. Since my primary defense handgun is The Judge, I will never need such. I have read the opinion that the "disconnect" between pistol and laser dot on target can be confusing and slow down proper aiming. Suggestion being that much, much practice with standard open sights might be better/faster for a defensive situation. I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks, Early
  9. My experience with scopes has been limited: Leupold...Burris...Bushnell...and Tasco. Frankly, I can tell little difference between them. I think I like the Burris Compact (a true compact) on my Remington Model Seven about the best. Fortunately, no scars yet....but, then, I always get as great an eye relief as I can.
  10. Good for you, growalot!! We will anxiously await any reply you might get. (Don't hold your breath!)
  11. Hey Bill, I regularly hunt the Capital District Wildlife Management Area in eastern Rensselaer County. I'm 68 and enjoy "gentlemanly hunting". That is, start late and quit early. Maybe we could hook up sometime. Early
  12. I feel that civilians should be able to possess any/all guns and ammo that are used by the police (govt.). Of course we have already gone beyond that here in New York: I, as a civilian, am limited to 10 rd. magazines....Police still carry weapons with greater capacity. Why? Must be in NY that the govt. is superior to the people...or sheeple!
  13. Try this: Slice eggplant into "steak fries"...shake in seasoned flour...coat well with cold beer batter and fry @ 375 +/-
  14. Of all those mentioned here, I think, perhaps, Bloomberg is the most dangerous. He and his money carry a lot of weight with big city mayors, and many of them have the ears of congressmen. One must wonder: What were NYC residents thinking??? Did you read....Gun sales in Colorado are up over 40% since that shooting.
  15. Yep....I think your memory was stretched a bit!! What's that.....deer taken with 39 different guns? Sorry, I think you are pulling our legs!
  16. Right....Nuge being one of the idiots!
  17. Good post, First-light: Now lwet's see how many of the Nuge fans suggest that he lead our charge against the anti-gunners.
  18. I would not recommend leaving them without someone to water them. Other years, maybe, but with this drought, they will need water every day for awhile. Hire a local kid to keep them wet.
  19. It would appear that the Gander Mountain MO is to attempt to wow the local customer base with good service and prices early on....and then raise the prices, cut staff and screw the customers shortly thereafter.
  20. I have dressed many deer with a pocket knife...Schrade Old Timer middle man. No need for a big knife to work on a deer.
  21. I am NOT in favor....I'm a NO Vote!
  22. I always have a knife in my pocket. My favorite, by far: A Schrade (USA) Uncle Henry Signature stockman.
  23. I would suggest you go with the .308...great caliber. For guns, I would consider the Remington Model Seven CDL or one of the Ruger 77 bolt guns.
  24. Agree: Gander Mountain's gun dept. stinks! That said, trading guns can be a distasteful experience, no matter where you do business. Personally, I know of only one small independent gun shop where I would even think of talking trade. Others that I deal with, operate pretty close to that 50% trade value. I have put eight different guns in a local consignment auction (one sportsman's auction a month, with 50+ guns)over the past couple of years and have always received more for them than I hoped to get...even considering the auction house's cut of each deal. I would not hesitate to do so again...as an alternative to trading with any dealer.
