  1. Rocky Point on opening day can be noisy .Numerous parking spots, many hunters, with multiple organized deer dives occurring. Deer will be moving all day (especially today with the weather being terrible). Opening week is usually very busy.
  2. I am going out tomorrow as well, reserved the one car spot at Henry"s Hollow in Southampton. Where are you hunting? Having never hunted in Pa, I do not know what you mean.
  3. The deer herd in Putnam County has been severely reduced due to EHD.
  4. It depends when and where you are hunting. I tend to sit all day as I know multiple drives are going on ! WEAR LOTS OF BLAZE ORANGE!
  5. Week Day stand by hunting is the way to go.
  6. in any event, there will be a lawsuit regarding the 2nd amendment which SCOTUS will render a ruling. God help us!
  7. OK, resident deer biologist, lets hear the options
  8. My point is this, flu vaccines have proven effective over the years. I made no mention of the Ebola virus nor have I rendered an opinion concerning it! Do yourself a favor and read up on "pandemics as they relate to flu viruses beginning from the turn of the twentieth century" and how flu vaccines have have "HELPED" to prevent such! Get a flu shot! The members of this site and those who view it would be greatly disappointed if you succumbed to the flu!
  9. Perhaps you should carefully read what you refer to before rendering an opinion!
  10. Get a flu shot. Rest assured more people in this country will succumb to the effects of the flu virus rather than ebola.
  11. Regardless as to when Big Game Licenses go on sale, it will be interesting to see after the season ends as to how many licenses were sold ( if one can find that information), the number of DMP's sold and filled, and the overall deer take. Will the trend in hunter decline within the state continue, will the deer overall deer take change, will hunter reports of kills improve? Who knows.
  12. Clearly, the NYSDEC has addressed this issue concerning high deer populations in certain DMP's. The problem is that not enough does are taken. The success rates speak for themselves. The history of deer management in NY clearly shows that NY hunters have been given the opportunity to apply for multiple doe permits in areas overrun with deer. Long island and Putnam County are but two examples whereby one can apply for and receive two permits. Harken back to twenty years or so ago when party permits were the norm in many areas. Nowadays hunting licenses permit a hunter to take multiple deer per the type of license. Increased bag limits in many areas are a direct result of many of many factors. Take into consideration, fewer hunters afield, less days spent afield by hunters, access to hunting, food plots, QDM, AR, efforts by anti-hunting groups, failure to report ones kill, suburban sprawl, and poaching to name a few. One can surely add more reasons for the increase in DMP's. All in all the NYSDEC does a good job with limited resources. We should appreciate their efforts and their service to the hunters of NY.
  13. Its clear that you are again speaking out of your butt ! You have no idea what is happening out in Suffolk County NY regarding the problem that the overabundance of deer have caused. You should perhaps research the subject before making such asinine comments!
  14. The deer habitat in 3A is no longer capable of supporting a large deer population.
  15. Good point! There is no no doubt that QDMA has its extremists( who pretend to be QDMA) in wanting to grow big bucks for monetary gain, fences properties and practices deer culling. Deer farms do the same! To lump all of QDMA with the above is unfair and you know it! Deer farmers on the other hand regularly sell enhanced bucks to operators of canned hunts for monetary gain.Such deer are not raised for livestock in the true sense of the word but for antler size. You kill the genetically inferior bucks and probably sell the venison. Deer hunting is big business these days and the means and methods employed by such groups are abhorrent to the everyday hunter. The majority of hunters have no respect for deer farms who raise and sell genetically enhanced deer to outfits who sell canned hunts. You FSW are a businessman, albeit a very successfull one when it comes to producing genetically enhanced deer and i respect that. However, your argument with QDMA seemingly is based solely upon a monetary issue. The fact that such individual groups pretending to be QDMA proponents (in it for the money) in your opinion( and probably true) are practicing a different method of producing genetically enhanced bucks which strikes a chord within you.Competition can bring about the worst in people and the rhetoric and disinformation emanating from each camp just fuels the controversy. Good luck!
  16. PDF] Using Antler Restrictions to Manage for Older-aged Bucks - MSUcares msucares.com/pubs/publications/p2427.pdf‎ mizing antler size of harvested bucks, you must have an older buck age structure. ... antler restriction that works on one property may not work on another.
  17. Its common knowledge that the NFL has been overwhelmed with lawsuits concerning head injuries suffered by former players and as such is making an attempt to mitigate such is obvious. Anyone who has played football at any level (and I have) have had their bell rung! Todays football players are physical freaks of nature. Careers are short and the effects of playing this game at this level are telling! The risks are obvious and the players do realize such, but in a litigious society the attorneys get rich. The NFL has finally after all these years have understood that to continue this money making operation they have to act and this latest proposed rule addesses this. The worst case scenario for the NFL is that a player will be killed from a hit during a game. The NFL is just exploring ways to avoid this scenario and the bettors would certainly appreciate it.
  18. Nature abhors a vacuum. You are most certainly correct that forest regeneration and deer harvesting are both closely connected. Overpopulation of deer certainly contributes to the benefit of other fauna, be it earthworms. In Westchester County the overabundance of deer has contributed to the destruction of the understory (one could look it up on line) and the effect the denudation of the habitat has had to the benifit of other species.
  19. Being charged with a crime is one thing, being indicted for a crime is another. Having served on a Grand jury several times, the majority can indict a ham sandwich. Should the individual be indicted, he has several options before him. I for one hope he fights the charges should he be indicted. One can be rest assurred that this individual will need need financial support and most assuredly it be forthcoming. Lets see what the DA has to say. You can expect that the press will make a big deal out of this to sell more papers and sensationalize this to meet their ends.
