Was out this morning on private land, does aplenty,no realistic shots. Should be a good gun season on the island.

Nature abhors a vacuum. Lets see what happens. Man, messing with mother nature often leads to consequences that were never ever considered.

I once saw Fast Eddie at a an AARP convention, he was first in line at the open buffet table having waited (for three hours) , (standing the whole tim) for the the trays to be unwraped.

This buck was shot this past Saturday evening by my friend (pictured) in the ADAKS. It dressed out at 204 pounds and was estimated to be 4 1/2 years old. From what he told me,he shot the buck in a swamp at 80 yards with open sites.Monster_Buck1.pdf

Ignorance in America
wztirem replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I guess we all need a "get out out of jail free card". Nevertheless, VJP is the ultimate baiter. He is and i dare you to disagree that he is one of the many "poster children for the lunatic fringe". This is a NY hunting website, not a forum for political expression by a lone individual. Easily we can elect to ignore such posts, however such topics are out there for all to see and many cannot refrain from commenting. Anything he posts to this website warrants a rebuttal be it positive or negative. If the moderators elect to allow such posts by this individual,(and others) they should be prepared to suffer he consequences! Moderate the site, is all I can say, See ya! -
The angriest I had ever become (long story, posted in the B/O thread a while back) was when hunting State land during gun season, I passed up a shot at a doe because by the grace of God I saw a hunter in the line of fire dressed completely in buck skins and elected not to shoot. When I confronted the guy at the parking area ( I was damned near apoplectic), he acted like a cigar store Indian. Some of us who hunt California Hill in Putnam county probably have seen him. ??? Be on the look out for this guy! ???

Me too, yikes. Getting a black eye from your scope is painful too!

Burt money has never impressed me, I am almost 62 and at this point in life I have provided for my needs. I would rather protect the land and water than line my pockets. But you are right some people are all about the money. Imagine what NY will look like once this gets stared, I shutter think about it. Who will police these well drillers? Dave Dave, you are the exception to the rule and are deserving of the praise for such a stance. No matter what, is the the risk worth the reward. IMHO, it is not.

Ignorance in America

It just figures that such a topic was started by the poster child for this post. -
The ticks are out of control down here on Long Island.

Perhaps this report is merely a ruse. Some still believe that the lion was not wild and either escaped from captivity or was intentionally released into the wild.
-
What makes this all the more frustrating is the failure of hunters to report their kills. If there was nearly 100% compliance with the law the allocations for permits would be easier to take.

In all honesty, it does not matter to me. Choose your weapon and good luck to you.

I hunt primarily a recurve bow. I do not need training wheels on a bow.

The statistics are implied. In any event,a good exercise would be for one to compare the number of does and button bucks taken by both bow and ML hunters in a given DMU, the actual number of DMP's filled in that DMU vs the total number of permits issued. Suffice to say the number of does taken by ML and bow hunters represents lost income. Why do you say that don't we pay for both ML and Bow tags? This is how it was set up in the first place the hunters didn't make the rules the DEC did so now they want us to pay for a DMP. These benefits were why many hunters took up the bow in the first place, a better chance at getting a deer.Dave No argument here. However, as an example, an area under AR restrictions that has few dmp's for gun hunters allows does to be killed with a bow or a ml for the cost of said license while gun hunters pay the ten bucks for a slim chance in the lottery. Perhaps, the DEC intends to make us all pay for a separate bow license,ML license and gun license and the opportunity to kill a doe is a lottery for all such weapons. Perhaps such a scenario may well be DMU specific. If this is what it takes to manage a doe population within a particular DMU, I cannot aggue with their reasoning. The DEC has the authority to manage the deer population in any way they deem necessary and have encouraged hunters to respond to the recently submitted 5 year plan. In any event, we will see what happens. The end usually justifies the means

A lot of people pay attention. If people can only hunt on weekends, what is the problem? As far as what Steve said, weekend warriors probably represent the majority of hunters. My advice to you is to week days!

If I had not seen it with my own eyes I would not have believed it. While driving home today from work with my wife, we both saw a deer and a fawn off the shoulder of the west bound lane of the Northern State Parkway less than one half mile east of the Sunnyside Boulevard exit! YIKES!

Target practice on State Land

I must be getting old, thanks! Watch ot Ed I am gaining on you. -
More than likely, you just wouldnt have to pay to enter for the DMP. DMPs are just not guaranteed for anybody. Think about it, people keep complaining that deer numbers are too low, and that too many does are being taken in some areas. The problem with the current system is, everyone with a bow/ml tag gets a DMP that is good anywhere, so its hard to restrict the number of does taken in a certain area. This move is not a fiscal one, its a move to gain more control over the doe take in each area. I agree with your point when it comes to ML/Bow and the DEC's intent to control doe harvest in specific areas. It is sound management. What will upset many and perhaps cause them to forego applying/paying for a permit is that they are now in a lottery. One of the benefits of purchasing a ml/bow license is that it is win win license for all who purchase such a license. In recent years I have elected to forego entering the lottery for a doe permit because I like my chances of killing a doe on either my ml or bow tag. For the past several years I have filled my ML tag. Besides, it really irked me that the DEC began charging for the opportunity to enter the lottery for doe permits. Now you can call me cheap( like FAST Eddie), but the present system is a bargain. Why piss us off any further! Its still a win win, you can shoot another buck and you get more time in the field. If you are really going to be pissed off about having to draw a DMP, then I dont know what to tell you. Which way do you want it though? You want to see more healthy deer more consistently across the state, or get the guaranteed doe tag and continue with the lack of sound management? Obviously, we want the DEC to get their act together. They are the professionals. What troubles me the most is that the 5 year plan is way overdue. Previous to the issuance of the plan the DEC has seemingly been been inactive when it comes to deer management. Now they woke up! In any event a plan is better than no plan.
