  1. I usually get my wife and daughter a gift certificate for a full day at the spa.
  2. Kansas City here we come!
  3. I hope the State Land I hunt is not crowded ??? .
  4. That is true but nevertheless, its only a phone call to find out if you can legally hunt with a ml if you have ever been convicted of a felony. Consider the alterantive.
  5. Laws vary by state but federal law states a felon cannon own and use any type of firearm, black powder gun included. Have him call the local District Attorney's office.
  6. I have used the "bomb" to stink up a tent blind prior to setting up. The smell is unforgettable!

  8. That works for me! You paid your money for a tag(s) to legally kill a deer of your choice. Good luck to you!
  9. If it doesn't protect 1.5's, what does it possibly do to help? I always thought it was hunting season and not antler season. ???
  10. So much for your credibility! "Haha .. I'd have no problem saying anything to you in person brush... it IS quite the same for me face to face as well... fortunately for me you don't travel in my circle... I love a good debate and I can tell that a lot of the guys on here have a good knowledge of whitetail deer even though or opinions may be different.. you on the other hand have the least amount of whitetail deer knowledge of any hunter I have ever met... you are merely dillusional. Sorry guys.. I'm not much usually for insults but this guy is a dope." 16 Years of research, my word! Are you published? Has your scholarly endeavors been critiqued by your peers? As far as a good debate, perhaps you read Roberts Rules of Order concerning debate! By the way Brainiac learn how to spell!
  11. I thought Doc or Fasteddie were being wished a happy birthday! :-*
  12. Do not bother with Pudding Street. There is only one really good spot (for gun) there and that is up in the rocks above the swamp to the right of parking area. Better off parking on Waywayanda Ct which parallels the easttern side of the lake and hunting there. I will be up there this Saturday in the am, if you want to meet up there. PM me
  13. I believe the Detroit Lions already hold that distinction Ed.
  14. Where were you sitting,Pudding Street ?
  15. Its a great idea and eliminates any excuse for not reporting ones kill.
  16. DMP's for many hunters (gun hunters) may represent an insurance policy for a successful season. Its frustrating to see many permits simply not filled by hunters who possess such permits and who only hunt opening day. While many permits are transferred many are simply wasted. Areas of State Land upstate and close to home which I hunt, the DMP's issued have remained consistent, however second chance permits are no longer available and many applicants are denied. From a deer management point of view this is a serious problem to tackle. Due to hunter overcrowding on State Lands the opportunity to kill a doe on a permit is difficult; for the majority of the deer are pushed into areas where hunting is not allowed or into areas where hunters will not attempt to hunt. As the season progresses, hunter participation decreases and opportunities increase to kill a deer. However one can appreciate the frustration of a such a hunter who does not have a DMP (was denied) or who was unable to have a permit transferred to him/her. Perhaps, the DEC should consider implementing a system whereby unused permits can be turned in by hunters who have quit for the season enabling those hunters who want to shoot a doe given the opportunity to do so.
  17. That is certainly true. Look at how many does are killed in comparison to the number of DMP's issued each year. Does are pretty savvy when it comes to not being killed. The females of any species are usually the smartest anyway!
  18. Doc, You are right on in your post! Access to land for the purpose of hunting is a problem to the everyday hunter who does not own his own land, have permission to hunt private property or can afford a lease to hunt. As such many hunters hunt state land. Consider the state of the economy, disposable income for such endeavors as hunting has become problematic for many hunters. As such, State Lands in close proximity of the NY metropolitan area have become highly desirable to hunters who can lo longer afford the cost of an upstate hotel and all its amenities. As you know areas upstate where public land is available to hunt no longer receive the influx of hunters as in years past. For the past several years, opening day on State Lands which I hunt; has seen a large increase in hunter numbers. Many of these hunters are now one and done guys who can longer afford a hunting vacation or for that matter simply afford to hunt more than several days. Opening day on State Land can resemble a free for all. Guys not seeing deer; begin drives, frustrated hunters start to walk the woods after a few hours and frustrate those hunters who have the patience to sit in one spot for the entire day. Deer are driven out onto private property which cannot be hunted. I have been lucky the past several years to kill a deer on opening day on State land only because the areas which I set up in have been overlooked or discounted by other hunters. This will not last! It is getting to the point where opening day on State land can be a waste of ones time and effort where the proverbial hunter behind every tree is becoming a reality. However, there is "good news";It is amazing to notice the drop off in hunters on State land after the opening weekend of the gun season. Late season action especially for ML'rs is pretty good! The deer usually return to their traditional haunts in search of food. Looking at the overall picture of things, hunter numbers will continue to dwindle because of an aging hunter base, lack of land access, overcrowding on Public Lands, dissatisfaction amongst hunters, and the looming fee increase etc. Crossbow Seasons, AR, one buck rules, increased seasons, generous bag limits, DMP's and other changes will /may only offer short term solutions to garner renewed interest amongst hunters who are on the cusp of giving up the sport altogether.
  19. I find it interesting that while property values on Long Island have declined nearly 30%, land values in many rural areas upstate within 100 miles of the metropolitan area have remained pretty much consistent.
