Tent catipilars 30 feet up
erussell replied to Fantail's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
strange they would be out this late? Usually they have already turned into moths by now. -
Watched a tall racked 6 point walk down through the field next to my house last night and most of his velvet was already gone. Made me do a double take. Anyone else seeing velvet coming off yet?

I like this guy already! I personaly think it should be a case by case decision. And if you want a gun friendly state then you might want to move south of NY border to atleast PA or further. -
Honestly, the only broadheads I have ever had a hard time getting to fly straight were 90 grain Muzzy 4 bladers. They were a nightmare for some reason. I bought a cheap pack of basically the same thing two yrs ago at Dicks except they were rocky mnt's at 13 dollars for six and shot two doe, Both went through and stayed together and both doe dropped within 40yrds, double lung of course. They will kill a deer dead as long as you do your part. Indians use to shoot deer withy sticks and twigs and flakes of rock so I think this cheap chinees metal should do fine.

Im not sure I would be able to shoot back if someone shot me with a 50 cal muzzleloader. Ive seen the hole it leaves in a deer! -
Have to agree, the winter coats are coming in. Next time you get him on cam he will probably not have velvet either. It is Sept.

Picked these up the other day at Walmart. Shot nice and straight and had to do minimal tunning to get them there. And the best part is they were. 10 dollars for three. They are a broadhead put out by realtree dont remember the name.

I would say it depends on what kind of sign you find in it and how easy it is to get to. If anyone can get to it the deer might be smart to it already. I hunted a saddle out in deposit one time. There were two peaks on either side of me that were pretty steep. I heard some shooting in the valley below me and then heard deer crashing up the mountain a few min later. I thought I was golden untill I watched them run straight uphill and over the peak to my left. They never skipped a beat ethier, and it was steep and rocky. But as a rule of thumb I would say yes saddles are the lowest point in a hill and deer being generally lazy creatures will take the least path of resistance 99% of the time.

Came up over the Dam on Toledo Bend Res. in Lousiana one time with a friend to do some Crappie fishing. We noticed there was only one car in the parking lot but we still did a little grumbling because we thought they might be already fishing this awesome spot we had found that was full of 13- 15 in crappie the day before. We climbed to the top and were greeted by the sight of 5 girls skinny dipping in broad day light. We werent grumbling anymore!! They asked us to leave so they could get out and get dressed and we went back down by the car and waited till they all piled in their car and left. Never did catch any crappie that day but we didnt care.

I beleive he was refering to the other mechanical broadheads on the video that didnt go through at the 60deg angle. But at 60 degree angle you would be shooting behind the rib cage anyhow to get the correct angle through both lungs so ribs arent even in the equation when your shooting at quartering deer. -
At first I thought it was just a typo and he ment hot broods of turkeys which I guess still doesnt make any sense. Here's one for ya

If you cant see 5 ft into it, its a good chance its a thicket. Whether its in a swamp, the woods a creek or someones side yard 30 ft from a house. If people dont go there during hunting season and it thick then a big buck will know about it because that how he got that big. And hunting over standng corn is not baiting, now if you break the ears off and pile them under your stand then yes thats baiting. But ears of corn still on the stock is a food plot. And just a hint, If you find a thicket on a saddle, a pinch point, or a funnel you have probably found a good spot to hunt.

Hey without homosexuals we wouldnt even have a Navy!!! ( as the village people play) In the Navy you can sail the seven seas, in the navy......
-
Well that would explain how he got that big. No biggy on the no hunting, just get permission outside the park and have your girlfriend push him I mean drive him out of the park to you. If anyone asks, your helping keep the population in the park under control.

#1 - All hunting rifles are built off of military rifles, dont beleive me look it up! A " traditional " muzzleoading lock or cap is responsible for just as many dead humans as the modern military copies. # 2 - The most popular rounds were once or currentlly military rounds.( 30/06, 308, 223, 338, ect. #3 - You are only allowed 5 rounds in a hunting rifle in N.Y. Earl of lee. so your snobish attituted is not tword the amount of rounds one can put down range but the appearance of the gun. And yes an AR 15 type weapon is a hunting weapon. #4 I have a remington 750 semi auto in 30/06 that is black and I dress in head to toe camo with blaze orange vest and sneek through the woods and never once has anyone ever accused me of playing army.

Deer have a hard time finding things to eat in the Adk! Moose are aquatic and find it a little easier to find food up there but Elk are like Whitetails they need suitable brows and understory which the ADK does not have. Maybe if it was burned off every once in a while but there isnt enough food in the ADK for Elk. I say we set them free out in WNY so they can eat all their whitetail food.
-
What, Strict gun laws dont stop mass killings? Say it isnt so!! You could make it completely illegal to own a gun in NY city and a mass killing could still happen. Now you have another problem on your hands though, copy cat killers. There are a lot of pissed off people in NY city and this guy just gave them an idea. Have a safe walk to work tommarrow. Pappa Bloomberg will keep you safe, yeah how much you wanna bet? His penthouse is way up there away from you common people.
-
Shoot, any moose that make it out of the ADK park are instantly shot and the shooter claims " they thought it was a deer ". Happened a few yrs back down here around binghamton NY. I wouldnt think the Elk would fare any better. Not to mention I dont want elk eating up all the Whitetail food around here while we are waiting for them to get to huntable numbers. Would be bad overall in my book.

Obama's way of thinking . . .

Like stalin said you break a people and they will eat out of your hand for the rest of their lives. They arent going to bite the hand that feeds them. Black unemployement is hanging right around 15% right now not sure of any other reason why they would vote for him other than to keep the checks coming. Really pisses me off when im scrounging up 40 bucks to buy my daughter cerial and milk and the 400 lbs black lady in front of me with 6 kids and three full grocery carts pays for $500 dollars worth with food stamps. Anyone ever notice we have fattest poor people in the world? I mean seriously, if you went to africa or mexico and saw poor people they are almost skin and bones dieing. Our poor die from heart attacks from eating and smoking to much. -
Just make sure your not one of those slobs that leave their brass, shotgun shells , shotup tv's,broken bottles, paint cans, clay pidgeons and other various shot up appliances and electronics laying around after your done. I get tired of cleaning it up!
