  1. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
  2. Another interesting excerp from a book. TOMMY: The wind is the breath of the world. Without the wind there would be no changing of the seasons and basically the world would wither and die. For a whitetail hunter, the wind is of great importance because a deer virtually lives and dies by his nose. Understanding the wind and the role it plays in a deer's world is of vital importance. If you have ever stood and watched the water in a clear stream tumble toward its destination, which is ultimately the sea or ocean, you can better understand the wind. As the water gushes downstream it encounters rocks, logs, islands, dikes, the bank and other obstacles in its path. Each obstacle disrupts the flow of water, causing the water to swirl, often causing a backwash or a reversing of direction of the flow. Anywhere there is a good downstream current; there will be areas where there is a backflow. Have you ever seen a bottle, Styrofoam cup or bobber floating upstream? I have many times and each time I get a better understanding of the water flow. Sometimes the water rolls from top to bottom or side to side in a whirlpool, where whatever is caught in the whirlpool stays in its revolution until something happens to disrupt the flow. The air currents act exactly like the flow of water as it blows across the topography of the earth. At each obstacle the air currents flow over, around and otherwise reacts to the shape, size and location of the object whether it is a mountain, cliff, hill, woods line on a field or thick stand of evergreens like cedar, pine and spruce. The air also reacts to temperature changes which create thermal currents with warm thermals rising and cool thermals falling http://www.whitetaildata.com/excerpt.html
  3. A man, Bob, and his friend Joe went out hunting. This was Joe's first time ever hunting, so he was following Bob's lead. Bob saw a small herd of deer and told Joe to stay in the exact spot he was and to be quiet. After a few minutes, Bob heard a loud scream. He ran back and asked Joe what had happened. Joe said “There was this snake and he slittered across my feet, but I never screamed. Then there was this bear that came up to me and snarled, but I never screamed.” “So then what did make you scream,” Bob asked, exasperated. “Well,” Joe continued, “two squirells crawled up my pants and I overheard them say, ‘Should we take them home or eat 'em now?’
  4. Suppose to be high winds and rain here, Probably sit it out.
  5. I have family that hunts over the boarder in PA that say the same thing. At first they hated AR's because they were use to shooting the first spike or 4 point that came along and almost never saw anything near 120ish. Now they all kill big bucks every yr and like to rub it in with cell phone pic's as soon as they kill one. Its really kind of annoying but go's to show that it does work.
  6. Dont threaten me with a good time big boy!!
  7. Blehhhhhhhhh guts are guts and get left in the pile!!!
  8. Hay your preaching to the choir man. But sometimes you got to step back and look at the big pic and just hunt the biggest buck you've got available. You can keep letting them walk but if thats all that is available for you to hunt then you are going to be frustrated. Only a handfull of 140in and over deer are killed each yr in NY. I consider a 115in buck a decent buck for NY and the average without ARS. I can only ever rememeber seeing one buck alive in the woods that went over 140in and hes dead a long time now. Unless you have 500 acres of continuious property for deer to hide on QDM can only take you so far especially if your neighbors are brown its down.
  9. Back of the glove and the occasional snot rocket clears it up. The worst is when it wont stop running into your mouth.
  10. All Doe in theory are Mothers. Also by hunting season all fawns are able to take care of themselves and very tasty but to each his own. Just saying.
  11. To funny!! Actually, if its waving there is something wrong with it.And id stay as far away as possible.
  12. Actually a spike can be a spike his whole life or a ten point in 2 yrs. You never know what the genetic potential of a deer is untill they reach about 3.5 to 4.5 yrs of age. 180 lbs 3 pointer could have just been a healthy young deer who ate alot. Unless a tooth sample is taken and aged you cant be sure.
  13. Thats why a flat tax would never make it through. There is to much power and perks in taxes that politicians would never give up. Repub or Demoncrat, both abuse taxes.
  14. Scientific fact: AR's will not change the genetics of any hunting area even if you ad tame 15 point monsters to the herd. AR's only increase the age structure of a herd. Within a short period of yrs the genetic soup would be so watered down that no genetic material from said 15 point monsters will even be found. http://www.qdma.com/...e-deer-genetics Also not shooting the " Mother and babies " as you refer to them is not very sound Deer management. If you want to see better bucks yes let the little bucks walk but you have to kill the doe and keep there numbers low. Your bucks will suffer from over exertion from trying to breed so many doe and mortlity rates will be higher and racks will be smaller. Also scientific fact. http://www.qdma.com/articles/harvesting-the-right-number-of-deer http://www.qdma.com/articles/how-many-does-can-i-harvest
  15. I once watched a button buck chase a doe around in circles for about 2 hrs around my stand. She tired him out and he laid down and rested for a while. But if he could have caught her I have no doubt he would have breed the heck out of her.
  16. Your welcome, its quite interesting. Most " experts " say to check the wind direction and thats it. But there are so many variables in that equation that it baffles my mind. You need to not only look at the wind direction but the terrain features beyond and infront of you that could be stearing your scent in a completely different direction once it passes you. The milk weed seeds really show me whats going on with the wind and has opened my eyes up to the ever perplexing problem of wind direction.

    carcass

Kick him in the, oh wait this is a family site.
  18. And no dragging and processing.
  19. Or if the wife will give you a hard time about it buy her a kitchen aid stand mixer and buy the sausage grinder and stuffer attachements for yourself. Make her happy and make your grinding easier.
  20. Currently 24 states and counting have some sort of AR in place or other restriction ( 1 buck only, Mandatory doe harvest before a buck ) So its coming to a neigborhood near you in some way or form whether you like it or not.Might want to get use to the idea. IMO AR is better than only being able to shoot 1 buck or having to shoot a doe before I can shoot a buck. Hunting is not for the benifit of the hunter but for the benifit of the overall herd which most hunters seem to forget. AR's main focus is to increase the overall age structure of said herd.Which leads to a healthier herd. Which is good for the hunter and the herd. For yr's I have heard nothing but complaints about how the DEC isnt managing the herd correctly and then when they try to, people start complaining that their rights are being stomped on. Well plain and simple its not about you and its never been about you its about a healthy deer herd and conserving a healthy deer herd for future generations to hunt. SO get over yourselves, you will still have meat in the freezer.
  21. I sometimes get pimples on my arse that wont go away just like threads about AR.
  22. I ground up 30lbs of deer and 20 lbs of pork butt 2x's ( one through lrg hole and 2nd time through small hole ). After about 20 min I called my Dad up to come and help. It sucked. Unfortunately I still havent got an electric one yet so it will suck again this yr. If you do get a manual grinder get the biggest one you can find. Trust me!!!!
