  1. went to a local gunshop, Bensen's down on L.I., my brother went with a SBE II as well, so they gave us a good deal....cheaper or just on par with the local Dick's..the Montelfeltro was a nice gun too, just didn't want the Walnut stock and blued metal as we do a lot of open water duck hunting on the salt water. The standard Vinci was nice too, but figured for the extra $200 or so I'd go for the super with the 3.5 option......not an easy decision with 6 or so nice guns of laid out in front of you........no doubt we could have save about $300 between the two if we bought from Gunbroker or the equivalent.

  2. if any of you get a chance, go on youtube and check out some of the interviews he did prior to his death....pretty interesting and eye opening to hear things from his point of view.

  3. went with the Super Vinci, all the Benellis were very nice to look at and handle.....in the end I liked the way it broke down and the camo finish...most likely will never use the 3.5", but nice to have if I ever decide to.

  4. Jail time eh?

Whole new box to argue but 10 is probably fine for well taught kids, but I worry about the 10 year old who isn't ready or raised proper and shoots a deer.

I never quite understand why people bring in what they can do out of State into a NYS discussion.....hell, I can legally use prostitutes in Nevada, and smoke pot in Colorado......but still, never quite get their point.

  5. Will you buy local or over the web?

I do know Gander Mtn had that 10% ANYTHING deal going but I would think with the amount of guns out there that you could scoop one up at a great price off Gunbroker etc...

I'm gonna check out the local shops and see what they have......my brother is more than likely going to pick up a new gun at the same time, hopefully they'll knock a few bucks off if we buy two, if not I'm going to shop around.......still got a few months, so in no rush.

  6. I should add that at about the same time I also bought a Benelli 20ga Montefeltro.  I know the SBE is a 26" barrel and I think the 20ga is a 24".

I bought the 20ga for dove hunting in PA and it is just a dream to hunt with.......corked pheasants with it too. Shot a pile of casual sporting clays with it over the years and its A1 there also!

EASILY my favorite shotgun, hands down.

That's why I say to take a hard look at the 12ga 3" Montefeltro (if they even still make that or was it replaced by the Vincy?).

no, I just went to their website and they still have it....I like the finishes offered in the other two, they make a Vinci that's 3" max and the Super Vinci that is 3.5.

  7. I bought a SBE about 15 years ago and it has been flawless. That said, if I had to do it again I'd probably get the 3" Montefeltro instead since the quality of turkey loads are so good these days. Same with goose or duck hunting, I don't think you need 3.5" Roman Candles. :)

    will definitely check it out.

  8. ok, so I decided that this week I am going to go out and finally get the new Turkey gun I have been promising myself, it will primarily be used for turkey and occasionally waterfowl. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Benelli SBE II or Vinci, just the standard 28' or 26' barrel, not the special turkey gun....anyone have any experience with these two?

  9. attachicon.gif248.jpgSo how does pretending that a crossbow is no more effective than a compound help us get the rest of archery season?   Any other ideas?    I paced off that shot at 59 yards.  Check out the arrow placement in the photo.   Bottom line here is the man upstairs is the one who determines whether or not you make the shot, I know I ain't that good. Feel free to post any of your photos of shot results at "ethical" ranges, or maybe send in a photo of your little yellow tag if that's all you got.  I am sorry if I have ruffled a few feathers here but I am enjoying the entertainment.  Bring it on.

maybe you can find a market for those "Jesus" guided arrows and bullets, can you come up with a more ridiculous explanation?......if you ain't that good, don't take the shot.

  10. To bad there would be no way to check and see if DEC listens to remarks or they go ahead and do what they already plan on doing. I believe its all been decided for us an they are just waiting to put it to print. They seem to want to make alot of changes before summer and thats not very far away.  Its all but written.

I wrote the DEC regarding AR's when they were being proposed for my zone...........never got a reply or acknowledgement either way, so I doubt they listen to the lone voice. I do think that when they get bombarded with form letters that are sent from a particular special interest group they do listen to an extent, especially when they also grab the ear of a politician who helps get their voice heard....

  11. I think the point was to show that other Counties may take note that a Country that allows it's citizens to be armed may not be one that can be easily rolled over......whether it's factual or not is another story. I would hope that there would be some impact, as minimal as it may be, should something like that ever happen. There certainly is no threat of that from totally unarmed citizens.......would there ever be an organized militia of organized citizens forming an effective "mini army"? doubtful, but I also doubt many would go down without at least attempting to defend themselves.......and yes, there is a degree of daydreaming and fantasizing to that idea.

  12. I would almost rather shoot the small ones just to increase the odds I don't find a fetus, ha. That's just me though.

they're still small enough in January that you won't see them unless you look too closely.......

  13. Ok, just my opinion here, not trying to tick off the OP. I too have hunted 30+years with a compound bow. And I too got a cross bow last year and am impressed with some of its capabilities. But my actual "hunting" range has not changed at all. Still 30 yards or less. I will not shoot unless I'm 100 percent sure that I can put the arrow or bolt exactly where it needs to go to cleanly kill that animal. Perhaps a "lucky" or not shot at 60 yards worked out well once but can you be 100 percent sure it will every time? I know we all have different skill levels, but I just don't see many hunters consistently making 60 yard shots, even with a crossbow.

yeah, we all knew there was going to be a few who looked at the crossbow as some kind of "superweapon" that was snuck into archery season........guess we found one, or should I say he found us?

  14. unfortunately, the mandatory AR's that are already in place and the ones that are being proposed to go Statewide, only cater to one side of the "antler" -vs- "any deer" hunters......I don't have the time to go back and dig up where DEC has said AR's are more of a request by certain groups of hunters than a biological need, nor do I care to, so I can understand why there would be some resentment from the "any Deer" hunter's if DEC goes ahead and imposes them Statewide......Big difference if you can say "you do what you want and I'll do what I want" as opposed to "now you have to do what I want", so basically they pitted two groups of hunters with different goals against each other.........at this point I don't care either way, I've been hunting with AR's for the past three years Upstate and don't see them ever rescinding them so it is what it is, luckily I have other options with places to go.

  15. Would our chance for full inclusion be better if a crossbow was not really more effective than a compound? The problem is, the truth can not be suppressed, and it don't take long after you pick one up, before you realize how much more effective they truly are. Range at least double, group size (from a rest) well under 1/2 at all ranges compared to those made with vertical bow shots. No need to draw with deer in close. No fatigue from long hold. Telescopic sights. All that stuff adds up in favor of the crossbow. The one I got is not front heavy, and balances as good as my .22 carbine rifle for off-hand shots. If the state truly wants to reduce the deer herd in some areas, then they should strongly consider letting us use this 10X or so more effective weapon throughout archery season as most other states have done. You can keep drinking that "kool-aid" that says the crossbow is no different in effectiveness than a compound if you would like. Only problem is, it just don't match the facts.

actually, you make a strong argument as to why they shouldn't be included in archery season.

  16. I found this on it...now they say they are usually small....thus really should not be noticed out side the lip flap...so I really find those two wht dots strange...they don't look to be part of any fur coloration to me...I don't believe the other pics are any closer than the closest one I posted...must have been those genetically modified soybeans I planted....lol

interesting, was at a deer check this year and the Biologist was talking to an intern that was helping out........he was explaining that the black chin strap on the deer's lower jaw is an ancestral trait that's purpose was to make the tusks stand out more.
