  1. Givin the chance...And a free ride...Most everyone on this site would go hunt high fence. Of course they will deny it but if the truth be known....And many have said they would...As long as it was not the beloved bambi.  A pig,A fence..No Problem!

I have no problem killing an animal behind a fence, animals are animals and they die one way or another to feed us...........if it's free I'll kill whatever you offer me....if I pay $5000.00, give me a Buffalo or another animal with a lot of meat, but I won't call it hunting or consider an accomplishment...hell, I paid thousands of dollars to go to Newfoundland to hunt Woodland Caribou and did nothing with it other than eat the meat, if you doubt me, I'll send you pictures of the rack that I nailed to my shed, or what's left after the Squirrels have been chewing on them for the past few years......but either way, I kill animals for the meat and nothing else.

  2. Well wtf would you like me to tell ya. There are a few on a ranch 40 miles up the road from me They sell some hunts but nothing like Whitetails. Probably 10 to 1 . Why they never turned big in high fence? Maybe because not alot of hunters hunt them or know much about them in many parts or the country? Not pretty enough? Does not grow more than just the same old typical rack every year? Could be a number of things.

There is no agenda on this end. Just a strong growing business 15 plus years old and growing stronger than ever.

well there you go, that answered more of my question then your first response.........

  3. I am not sure why nobody ever pushed the Mule deer. I do have a straw from a 200in mule deer shot in the wild that i am going to cross with a whitetail this fall. Was going to try it this last fall but with only artificial breeding 15 does this year and 15 with bucks i was a tad short on does. This fall i will be breeding about 60 does so i will cross this fall. They are a really nice looking animal speaking of the few i have seen. I watched a show not to long ago where they were killing free range hybrids out west somewhere.

didn't really answer my question which was asked in total honesty, but at least you got the chance to promote your agenda........very nice.

  4. And on the other side of that coin I find it hard to believe that you find it hard to believe...

It was mentioned that guys are different. Some competitive and wanting a different animal. To us, a mature buck is more captivating than a 1.5 yr old spike that is more curious than it is savvy. I've shot spikes when inexperienced, but the challenge and majestic nature of mature animals sends me that way. Why date a mean ugly girl if I can date a pretty nice girl I guess.

Again, if it's an area where a spike is rare, than it's all relative and maybe a 4pt is the challenge. But in so many areas we don't have to hope for a 4-6 pointer challenge and there can be good mature animals if a little age on the hoof is allowed.

I know I'll get blasted for this, but what gets me is that those who shoot yearlings, are also quick to try and get a bullet into the mature deer we hunt. Sure, it's your right to shoot whatever buck... but what you don't realize is we pass up spikes, forks, 6s, 8s, heck I pass young 10s holding out for the mature animal.

But you shoot all of the above. I help your hunt by passing, you detract mine for shooting everything. It only takes a few "brown it's down" guys to really change the landscape of what I'm trying to enjoy. If it were 12" bass, you could throw it back so it could grow up to the 4lb bass I challenge myself to catch. But this isn't fishing and a dead spike is a dead spike.

actually, I totally understand why some guys hunt big mature bucks and am not at all baffled by why they do it, nor do I think anyone else is......and I'll even go as far as to commend those who hunt for that reason....and it's really not a matter of them being quick to shoot YOUR deer, its a matter of them hunting for whatever reason they do so and whatever opportunity presents itself they take......I totally understand your reason, so why so hard to understand another's reason for doing something different?

  5. this question has been on my mind for quite some time, why is it that there aren't any deer farmers that raise Mule Deer? maybe they do and I just never saw it......if raising deer is such a big industry why doesn't this exist? I would think it would be an untapped resource in the Eastern U.S. if it's possible.........totally honest question.

  6. This one's good too.

Before he became a big name hunting celebrity, he spent his days devouring dandelions and crab grass as the "Weed Eater",lol

good book as well, but I found the background noise to be a bit distracting.

  7. I know that someone mentioned these "random" surveys are set up by extremely intelligent people, but after the first youth hunt I received a survey to fill out regarding it, I find it hard to believe I was randomly selected to fill out a survey about a hunt that my son and I successfully participated in...of course we sent back a positive review...I don't know of anyone who didn't participate that got one to fill out, does anyone else?

  8. Here is a real scenario in my neck of the woods . The hunting camp next to me has 90% of them coming from out-of-state. Out of 10 of them only 3 get doe tags because they are land owners. They hunt for meat, any buck will do. Of course shooting a big one is nice. If AR's were put in place  I would hope the dec would include out-of-state hunters in the DMP lottery to keep them coming back. If this isn't the case we may lose more hunters.

I think that's were they need to tread very lightly, any major changes too quickly could drastically effect hunter participation.....there's no question that there are areas that would have little effect on hunter satisfaction with the implementation of AR's because they probably see numerous shooter bucks that exceed the AR limit and they offer greater opportunities to obtain DMP's based on a high deer population...other areas, not so much.

  9. I believe thats where the breaking up of the counties come in. If they have Ar and Obr it will be in high doe populated area,s. There will be no Ar,a Obr and no doe tags in some areas,  It will confuse most of us i am sure but they are going to throw something together in the next 5 months so it can go to print. Will be interesting to see if any of the user's of this site end up being one of the 7000 to give their comments.

well, if that's their plan then great......I believe it needs to be broken down and looked at on a smaller scale as opposed to statewide. I wonder how closely DEC has studied the bucks that are now being killed in that original cluster of AR zones, are they nice mature bucks or just bucks that have eeked their way into what is considered legal and nothing more?

  10. Just about every hunter i know. Mostly mature bucks also. 1 new hunter out of 6 was the only hunter not to take 2 this year. Thats hunting very good, well managed land with good numbers.

and you probably accomplish that every year without being told what to shoot and because of what you have to work with and how you manage..........I don't see how the DEC expects that to be accomplished on poor, unmanaged public land that offers the deer nothing in the way of decent food except maybe every other year IF there's a good acorn or Beech nut crop.

  11. I still find it hard to believe that some guys are totally baffled that other hunters are perfectly satisfied shooting any deer whether it be a spike, doe or big 10pt, and are just as excited regardless of what it is.......and look forward to doing the same thing year after year with no regrets.........it's a frigging animal for Christ's Sake!!!! no different to many than a rabbit, turkey, goose, duck or anything else they hunt and kill for enjoyment or whatever it is they get out of it.

  12. You can have mixed burger but everyone seems to use pork, used a new butcher 1x and he used pork, burger was tasting funny after about 8 months, I tend to keep meat a long time as its just me and I put several in the freezer. Butcher friend said no fat or beef suet and I never have had an issue since. The reserch I've done since really does support it.

I've never seen the need to mix it with anything prior to freezing, if the recipe calls for it I'll do it after I defrost the venison and just before cooking..........and going back to the pork fat issue, ever see how they make proscuitto......yikes!

  13. There is nothing wrong with someone saying that killing a younger buck is easy... in fact, I am saying it... at least I'm saying it is for me.. it is not the same for everybody. It is easy for some guys to kill deer and harder for others... that's just the truth... not good or bad just true.  Nothing wrong with the truth.. except some people have a tough time with it. I find it difficult to dunk a basketball, Lebron James thinks it's easy... is he wrong? No, the truth is that most 5' 10 white guys can't dunk a basketball.. so I wouldn't see it as a "slap in the face" if Lebron James said it was easy. Because for him it is!!

Actually, you can take the absolute worst hunter set him up in a prime location with a good population of nice bucks, tell him exactly what to do and eventually he'll get one, thousands of guys who kill big deer on guided hunts prove that.............on the other hand, we can set you up with the best sneakers, best basketball, put you on a great court and you'll still fail.

  14. Pure venison ,np, if it was burger mixed with pork toss it. Mixed with beef suet eat it. Pork fat doesn't freeze solid so it rots while in your freezer. Beef and venison fat freezes solid so no breakdown occurs. Heck they have eaten frozen baby mammoth at 10000 years old....

pork fat rots in the freezer?......I have to say that's the first time I'm hearing that.

  15. A little bit of "crossdresser" fantacy working here? :cheese:

only if it helps my chances of tagging a deer, purely experimental..........no way I would enjoy it, or so I hope.
