  1. well, Cuomo made me laugh for once.....when talking about the storm he said although this is historic for lower NYS, people in Buffalo and Rochester areas would shrug this 2' of projected snowfall off as a common occurrence....and I assume this is true.

  2. I don't know why this stuff flies over your head. You have proven to be a pretty bright person overall, but equating a poll conducted online from a small time newspaper to one that Cornell is doing seems foolish.

Random selection doesn't happen by random, if that makes sense.

I can"t imagine that any responses to any random survey or poll, regardless of the source, are anything other than the personal opinion of those responding.........I can't imagine the majority of people apply any scientific thought other than what they want...now if you're telling me these random selections really aren't random, but more a selection of people they specifically want responding to the survey then I get it........and I understand that they break them down by region, wmu, age..etc. But, my main point was, that the info they get back can't certainly be looked at anything other than personal opinion can it?

  3. Does it matter, it's an unscientific newspaper poll?

I'm sure I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be pretty much just as accurate as the random poll that DEC is sending out? although it may have a method as to how they send it out, the info they get back sure as hell isn't going to be based on scientific data

  4. NOBODY can carry a handgun while deer hunting during Bow season with archery gear.......not a private citizen with a concealed carry permit, not a Police Officer and not an ECO.....what you choose to do is up to you, but know the law so you don't "accidentally" offer up info you shouldn't have.

  5. LOL!  I love these winter storm forecasts.  They scare the hell out of people, who run to the super market and clear out the store's shelves, as if they will be snowed in for a month.

Snowstorms are like a woman's perception of sex.  She never knows how long it will last or how many inches she'll get.  But it's rarely what is promised.

    :D

I was just out.......cars lined up at the gas stations and supermarkets packed, people are in full panic mode.

  6. We just got back in, very slow. We hunted from 7 until 1. I saw a glimpse of a small deer early on that was it. We had spot 10. Most tracks were from the north east section of the property. We walked all that time nothing to show for it.

did you happen to inquire how the season has been going as far as success? from what I've heard it's been kinda slow.

  7. most likely, any evidence will be held until after the case is disposed of, these cases can be in the courts for quite some time.....so even if they do eventually get some property back it won't be for awhile. Hopefully they have a good case against these guys so they get nothing back and I'm sure there's more to that case then what's in that article.

  8. I guess you cant read the posts. Every post i reply to one person always has to bring up my deer farm and believe it or not..My hair. This thread again had nothing to do with either yet someone seems to feel the need to bring both those items into the thread.

I made the statement that they must be jealous because they have neither and they bring them up time after time in threads that have nothing to do with either. Has nothing to do with what someone makes for a living.

yes, I see the childish posts, and I can see through all that B.S.......but all too often you bring up jealousy, and that has me baffled. I have no doubt that you have a pretty good handle on deer and what works and doesn't, so why get into the nonsense?

  9.

And what does THAT have to do with small gun shops closing ??

I'll bet that you have a stupid haircut, too !!

Yeah, and I'll bet that your breath smells and you don't love JESUS !!

You know Mom liked you BEST !! Yeah !! I'm just getting STARTED !!!

in case you're wondering,I have a crew CUT....and my breath breath smells like JESUS...and don't bring my MOM into this because that brings up too many bad memories!!

  10. Ok you are still hunting or stalking a deer or what ever game animal ( not everyone hunts from e a tree stand ) and sits in one spot all day long. How do you judge your distance now.

I don't stalk or still hunt with my bow, so can't answer that.....but I've been doing it long enough that I bet I can judge within 2-3 yards, but that's in ranges up to 30 yards....after that you've moved beyond what I consider archery hunting.

  11. Ok after all of the BS on this thread, How many of you out in the woods hunting ( with no range finders ) can accurately tell the difference from 40 to 50 or 60 yards. Not to easy with a long or recurve or compound bow. The difference with most X bows they use a Scope and with some scopes you can judge the distance of the target. Been hunting with every thing legal in NYS  for 60 + years so do not try to BS the question.

pretty simple, I pace off landmarks by foot prior to getting in stand.....all part of scouting, and I would hope if you've been hunting for 60+ years you have some type of method you use...and please, no BS......if you've been 10 yards off all these years in some of your shots you need more practice.

  12. I will say that gun and ammo sales from smaller guns and ammo stores in and around Rochester may be in big trouble for another reason (in addition to Andy's safe act). We now have a real big-box outdoor store that is actually serious about selling stuff, and another one coming soon (Bass-Pro) in Victor. Take Andy's BS and the new heavy-duty competition, and it has to be getting pretty ugly for the smaller independent shops.

What I worry about is losing some of the good gunsmiths that rely on gun and ammo sales to supplement their businesses.

much like what Home Depot and Lowe's did to the local mom and pop hardware stores.......Dick's, Cabela's, Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shop's used to be far away mail order places....not anymore, you can drive 1/2 an hour and save $100.00. That's mainly why I bought my last gun from a local shop, paid a bit more, but I have no problem with that.

  13. I understand your POV and clearly valid points.

Your second paragraph is alot of "them." What about hunters? Isn't part of the responsibility on us to do our part - and I don't think its fair to say the DEC needs to turn around before we do. It should be simultaneously in my opinion. We're just as much to blame as the DEC. Just because the tags are issued, are we required to fill them? Or is it just giving us the choice to fill them? At the end of the day, we're the tool, but also the decision maker at times.

that's spot on, hunters need to take some responsibility in the management aspect, how many guys fill as many tags as they have just because they have them and then turn around and complain there are no deer and that DEC gives out too many tags.....I've seen it first hand.........as much as I hunt and will pretty much shoot any legal buck or doe, I've realized that as of late, the area that I hunt has a pretty low deer population and passed on every antlerless deer I saw this year and as pissed off as I was when they first passed AR's in my area, I now just sit back and hope they will eventually pay off, and not so much so I can shoot bigger deer, but so I can see more deer.
