  1. I find it hard to believe that loss of hunting license sales revenue is behind the attack on farm raised deer and penned hunts...if the amount of people purchasing and hunting farm raised deer is as high as stated, the amount of sales tax associated with it would probably balance it out.....a couple thousand dollars is peanuts in this State when it comes down to it.

  2. I bury my skulls and cover the antlers from critters. Nature does a great job in cleaning them up.

I did that once with a roadkill I was given........didn't turn out half bad and actually came out nice and white after I bleached it with the stuff you can get at a beauty supply place.

  3. I have a woodstove in my basement, when it gets going and I keep it going, it gets the basement up to around 80 degrees and that in turn warms the enitre 1st floor up very nicely......I actually had to add a second heating zone because the second floor never got warm due to the thermostat being on the first floor. Another bonus is that my hot water heater, furnace and heat pipes are all in the basement, I figure keeping all that stuff at a higher temp has got to save a few bucks a year as well. I normally get all my wood free and split it myself, about 3-4 cords a year, if I was to buy it would run between $175-$225 a cord depending on the wood being seasoned and what time of year you buy.

  4. Seems some folks don't comprehend the English language, or intentionally mangle the interpretation of the message that is written.

The man never said he wasn't a good husband, father or grandfather.  Nor did he say he didn't do his best, or strive to excel.

What he said was, he could have been a BETTER one, financially, as a provider, if he hadn't been hamstrung by an elected official who was more interested in taking from productive citizens, than he was in helping them.

Maybe speaking the truth about the liberal progressive agenda is what really disgusts some people.

all a man needs to worry about is being the best he could have been with what he was given...if he did all he said he did with what he had to work with, then he did his job....no need to blame anyone or apologize for anything.

  5. 130 was the lowest grain they had. I hope I don't scare my son off with the recoil on the 270. I've only shot a 30-06 and 12 ga. Never anything smaller. I assume the recoil is less than my 06 but more than the .243 we were looking at. Nevertheless i may borrow my brothers sled for this weekend to make it easier to sight it in.

in all seriousness, if recoil is a concern, hold off until you can get some managed recoil ammo....many times it's not so much the ammo but the gun that dictates the felt recoil, I made the mistake of buying my son a Ruger Hawkeye Ultralight in .308 and the recoil is brutal so we've stuck with the managed recoil stuff.........my brother has an Interarms .270 that makes my 30-06 feel like a .243........Getting a scope to the eye the first time you shoot a big bore rifle is not good.

  6. You can't go wrong for that price.  .270 was a MUCH better choice than the .243.  Why go with a low end caliber when you can get a more potent one for the same price?  People can argue until they are blue in the face that a .243 is great, but as is the case with any controversy, there are usually good reasons for it being controversial.  I much rather stick with a caliber where there AREN'T any arguments about it being effective for deer.  You have that with the .270 for sure!

good choice, I would still consider starting off with managed recoil ammo from Remington...........if not for hunting at least for the range.

  7. States it pretty clear, UP TO $10 no more.

I'll bet they can legally charge more for transactions that require shipment to a 3rd party...........my main point was that guys are more than willing to advertise places that will more than gladly do the transactions for "additional fee's"., not too sure that's something to share on the internet in the case that they are doing something wrong.

  8. I'll assume it's already sighted in to the point that it's on paper.......get yourself one box each of whatever brand slugs you are considering and shoot only for groups at this point, after you choose the brand get some more and dial it in. I made the mistake of buying too many of a brand that shot like crap.

  9. really? so money prevented you from being a good husband, father and grandfather? That's complete bullshit. Billionares can be horrible parents and spouses and poor people can be some of the best most caring parents one could ask for.

Money does not make the man.

exactly, I didn't want to say it but glad someone did.......the next time I disappoint my wife or kids, I'll have to remember to blame the Governor, hopefully they'll buy it.

  10. I'm having my first one done. Never a huge fan because I think they kind of have that road kill look to them, but when you have a nice buck that's not quite a mounted it does deserve a little something extra.

I'm not sure if I love this or if I think it's tacky as hell. But it's an interesting option if you don't like the white. These were just google searches below.

  11. in terms of looking "natural", aren't bones pretty much pure white or very close to it when you first skin out and butcher an animal? that greasy yellow look is unappealing in my opinion.

  12. The background check fee is $10, The cost of the paperwork to do the transfer is up to the FFL. 20 bucks or so is not unreasonable considering the hassle. Wait 'til it kicks in for ammo sales.

my understanding is it's $10.00 for the entire transaction.........if they could legally charge what they wanted for the paperwork most would be more than happy to make $50.00 or so of pure profit from private sales, that's probably more than they make selling a brand new gun.

    General Business Law Article 39-DDD

GBL Article 39- DDD requires that all private sales of firearms, rifles or shotguns be
conducted through a licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer. Before any private sales
may be made, a NICS check must be conducted by a dealer on the purchaser. While a
dealer is not required to facilitate a private sale, if a dealer chooses to do so, he or she
must create and maintain records relating to private sales to prove that the background
checks were conducted. These records may be inspected by a police officer and are not
subject to public disclosure under the FOIL provisions. The Safe Act provides that a
dealer may charge up to $10 for facilitating these private transaction
  13.  Looks like our friendly FFL's are not on our side  charging an "administration fee"  or maybe they donate to the cause to repeal the "safe act"!     lol.

yeah, sad to see there's a few bottom feeders out there more than happy to take advantage of people.....I have more respect for the guy who refuses to do it than the guy who tries to squeeze money out of customers, I'd drive an hour to go to the guy who only charges what he's allowed to just to avoid the other guy.
