  1. The UPS Stores are independent operated, and often refuse arms and ammo as a store policy.

Going to a UPS or FedEx hub type facility will work MOST of the time if the employees know the rules.

I have used USPS on many occasions for long guns without issue in general. Sometimes the desk clerk needs a little coaching by superviser on rules, but all in all pretty easy.

Throw in a red bow and this would make a nice Christmas stocking stuffer at a fair price on a low round count gun. ^_^

yes, I shipped directly from a main hub.

  2. I think the biggest hurdle is actually the USPS. Since UPS & other private shippers won't ship firearms, the USPS is your only option. Their requirement are that long guns be shipped to an FFL. I don't see what state either end is in would matter to the USPS.

Not sure about why handguns require an FFL on both ends.

not too sure that's accurate info.....I shipped via UPS without issue.

  3. Hoping to get out to eastern Long Island this afternoon: Guys could we start a convention where we list NYS DEC WMU's with an underscore?

For example I'm heading to 1C_

Can't search forums by two digit codes to figure out if there is any news in my neck of the woods.

go to the Home page and look under the New York Hunting Title, scroll down and you'll find what you're looking for.

  4. I understand what you are saying, like I said, "if" you live in an area that you can get two DMPs, you can shoot 5 deer. In my area, you are only going to get one DMP, so I can only shoot 4. The DEC "controls" the number of deer taken in the area with DMPs, that is no different in either zone. Also, if they are giving you in the NZ a longer season so you can shoot a deer, then why not in the SZ. I know a lot of people who do not shoot deer every season down here, and they are not "Trophy Hunters". I feel the only reason we have two separate seasons is so people can hunt both areas. I think it has nothing to do with management considerations.

you can ONLY shoot 4 deer? you should show a little more excitement with having the opportunity to do so.

  5. As was said above, I have never killed a bird in a field in spring, I usually get them in the woods near roost trees. As for locator calls I use owl (reed and barrel) peacock, hawk, crow call, dog whistle, and elk bugle,as well as a horn from an 85 Honda moped.

what he said about field hunting.......find their roost and get as close as possible to try and get him before he hens up.

  6. Indana's "unlimited" handgun permit used to "require" concealed carry. Unless it has changed, it still does.

Indiana is a very "conservative" culture too.

I was referring to NY and the fact that those terms are specific to handguns. I noticed some were saying they openly carry long guns, in general there is no restriction for that in NY.....unless you decide to take it to an extreme and create other problems by doing so.

  7. Like i said...Just a perk if needed.  Its like people that get on hunting forums and think that because they dont use their name, someone cant find out who you are. Every post comes from an address from your computer and shown to the right person that address will lead anyone thats in the know right to the name and address of where that computer sits. Anyone can be found. Real quick.

Exactly! that's why I suggested they may not enjoy you sharing that they provide certain information in exchange for hunting rights.

  8. I heard there is a lot of info linked to the DMV database...orders of protection, sex offender registry, they suspend drivers licenses for non payment of child support, I was also told that prior driving convictions along with points may also pop up when your license is run through DMV......now that NYS uses the same licensing program for all licenses it can't be too hard to link everything together.......whether or not the general public can request and get that info is another question.

  9. "

i had another response planned till i got to this last paragraph. I agree that there's nothing wrong with people who blow off steam at a wedding and drink to much. But just like some NFL players have found out recently, when you announce who you work for and what you do you are now representing that organization regardless if you're on the clock or not. I think the "salaries" and fat in organization like the NRA is what is concerning to members. The same criticism has been made to the red cross and a lot of churches where the pastor lives in a mansion."

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So don't join the NRA because of that one or two stories of bad representation. Don't watch football because of the off field lives some live, don't go to church because somewhere a pastor has a mansion (I sure don't see that in the little towns around me, and I'm guessing that is true for 99% of pastors in the USA. )

I guess my point is, the same others have made is this:   There are bad apples in every organization in life. The NRA is the main organization that fights for first amendment rights in our country.  If you don't want to join them but instead tell everyone on here how bad they are that is your right.

The NRA fights for the 1st Amendment rights??? I sure hope that was just a mistake.

  10. or what if your neighbor says "hey, let's go for a drive", and proceeds to do 60 mph in a 55 mph area, chances are it wouldn't even phase you.....same neighbor says "hey, let's go for a drive" and then proceeds to pull up to a field, whips out a rifle and spotlight and proceeds to look for a deer to kill, my guess is you would have a much different reaction, would you not?

  11. What's the difference you broke the law either way?

if you look at the guy who drives 5 miles an hour over the speed limit the same way you do the guy who goes out at night to spotlight and shoot a deer from his car, I don't know what to tell you.....I don't, Kinda like comparing a child molester to a guy who stole a car, both felonies...do you look at both guys the same way?????
