  1. nothing wrong with lead, I suggest it for all your cookware and if you can find it, use it for solder in your household plumbing and for painting your house.
  2. for $300.00 you're going to get a bottom of the barrel crossbow....however, you can get a decent compound around that price range.
  3. if you ever hunted for bear with any chance of taking one you might understand..........especially if you plant food plots with more or less the same intention.
  4. I was wondering where you've been......good stuff and post some more pictures.
  5. I agree that dumping a pile of bait right before the season really won't increase your odds of harvesting a deer, however, before the feeding ban, we had an electronic feeder set up by the house year round and you could pretty much be guaranteed deer would show up every day like clockwork, so it can be effective if done properly.....and I add this to the discussion, if baiting were to become legal and you had a neighbor who had the time, property and means to grow an effective food plot and you did not, and you saw that having a negative impact on your deer hunting, would you have more of an inclination to bait?
  6. I'll be totally honest, although I hunt public land and think it would be a total waste to spend time and money baiting, if it was legal and I had the time and property to effectively do it, I would not be against it and would probably participate. I know many say it's not the same as food plots, and I do agree, if I only had a small amount of acreage and food plots weren't an option, why not? does it suck some of the thrill out of the hunt? maybe, but right now I feel the same about a lot of the gadgets and tactics many use.......and I'm willing to bet that many folks who are against it now, myself included, feel that way because we follow the law and know that there are way too many who are getting an unfair advantage by breaking the law.
  7. that's the latest from the NYS Penal law, and you need to keep in mind that the ECL and PL aren't exactly on the same page.........either way, school's may very well have their own tighter restrictions on what they allow on their grounds....the link from DEC specifically states for the "purposes of fish and wildlife law".
  8. It seems that they already addressed the concerns of lead shot when it comes to waterfowl hunting, and I think the majority of waterfowl hunters are paying the higher price for effective alternatives. That being said, I also think the amount of animals that are hunted with single projectile types of ammo that are left unrecovered and become food for scavengers is a very small number...I would think if it's that big of a problem you would see a pretty high rate of lead poisoning in people who shoot and consume animals killed by that means, I would think that many of us have consumed hundreds of pounds of lead shot animals over many years with no ill effects from it....the main issue with birds is that they have crops, where there food is stored and mixed with sand or tiny gravel particles and it gets broken down before digestion, allowing the lead to be more easily absorbed, not so with mammals.
  9. here's a link to the NYS Penal on weapons possesion on school grounds, and also the definition of "firearm"....... http://ypdcrime.com/penal.law/article265.htm#p2653
  10. seeing that silly stuff on the store shelves really doesn't grab my attention, I really don't give it much thought........I was just flipping through a hunting catalog the other day and the names they put on these products is embarrassing, sadly enough there's more than enough people willing to fork over money for it.
  11. what are the typical dimensions on most pop up blinds?.....plenty of people shoot bows out of them, so something about that size should be good, you would just need to make it high enough for you to shoot a bow from a standing position.
  12. http://www.newsday.com/long-island/suffolk/east-end-deer-cull-federal-sharpshooters-kill-192-falling-short-of-goal-in-suffolk-county-report-says-1.9159212 looks like a total failure and waste of money.
  13. I like to add them to someones trail just for kicks...couple thrown here and there deviating from their path is always good fun.
  14. I like to add them to someones trail just for kicks...couple thrown here and there deviating from their path is always good fun.
  15. get a gps and use that to find your spots....no need to litter up the woods with thumb tacks and let others find your spots.
  16. I may be wrong, but I think the January season is set by Suffolk County and not DEC, so probably up to them.....if it was set by DEC it would have to have been taken care of already.
  17. professional beggars are all over the place, they get driven out to L.I. from the city and dropped off at various shopping centers....the usual setup is the family with little kids holding up the sign asking for money.
  18. do you have any trouble finding decent steel waterfowl loads or good turkey loads for the 410?....I've always found the choices to be fairly limited.
  19. I won't even throw spare change into a can sitting on a counter with a hand written story on it anymore......too many legit charities you can give to.
  20. I just got rid of my 12 gauge Silver Reserve, used once and put back in the box in just about brand new condition, you get what you pay for......don't buy one just to say you have an over and under, save your money and get a quality one.
  21. I guess there's a fine line between food for your family, and a dead animal strapped on top of a blood splattered car driving down a main road to be seen by all...........

  23. I like to collect them.......
  24. http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/2014-new-york-governor-astorino-vs-cuomo
  25. But I guess if you wait too long, you run the risk of people already having made up their minds...people already know who Cuomo is so he has to put much less of an effort getting his name out there, so it would seem that he has an advantage in the campaign game.
