  1. select a pocket holster wisely. I wouldn't suggest carrying one  without a holster.

I wasn't suggesting to have a loose gun in ur pocket, I have the one with the sticky outside, holster stays inside the pocket when you draw the weapon..........I have the Ruger LCP 380.

  2. I understand the purpose of this law. I know they have all kinds of problems controlling urban and suburban deer populations. The damned deer are just too adaptable. I'll tell you what would be a good compromise. For get the 150' change. How about you can hunt with a bow as close to occupied buildings as you want as long as you have obtained written permission. That way you could sit on some patio furniture on somebody's deck if that's what turns you on, but it would only be in cases where the people affected were in agreement. But keep the 500' rule in effect where permission is not granted.

you can already do that if you have permission from the landowner.....no need to change anything.

  3. for those who carry for self defense outside the home, I can just about guarantee you'll have better chances of protecting yourself with a pistol you can pull out of your pocket in a split second as opposed to a pistol you have to fumble for that's concealed in a holster under a shirt or jacket...........in most situations, you're reacting to a threat, which pretty much means they've already targeted you, so they already have the advantage.

  4. If you're not on good enough terms with your neighbor for them to let you hunt under the 500' rule as it stands now, I can't imagine this will help matters much, just because some things are legal, doesn't exactly mean they are the right thing to do........hell, I could blast my radio outside, legally from 8:00 a.m until 11:00 p.m. just about everyday, that doesn't make it right......we hear people getting pissed off about other hunters setting up to close to the property lines as it is, even if it's 1000 yards from their house, I can only imagine what is gonna go on if they allow us to get within 50 yards of a house, and we all know that there's enough jackasses out there who put common sense aside and just do stuff because they can.

  5. Lots of young athletes making millions who don't act like morons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think it all depends on the sport...........the NFL seems to have more than enough animals to cover all the other sports.

  6. So, rumor has it that you need some kind of registration card proving ownership of an AR style gun before you can purchase ammo that can be fired from AR style rifles. If that is so, I am assuming that store owners would have already been advised as to the nuts and bolts of that part of the law. Database or no database, any ammo seller should be able to answer whether or not that is just B.S. or not. Has anyone asked any ammo dealer that direct question yet?

don't many non assault weapons use the same ammo as assault weapons?.......sounds like B.S. to me.

  7. It's easy enough to do.  The recoil pad should come off first, then a bolt through the stock can be taken off with an extension and socket.  The slide should come off (mind you it has been a while since I've done one) pretty easy; pull the magazine tube cap off then on the underside of the bolt is a little pin that you can slide one way only.  It is under spring tension and will then release the slide as you lift up/out.

Let me know if I'm close, room service here at the Holiday Inn is knocking...........................................................grin

that sounds about right...I would just use caution unscrewing and and replacing the metal cap that caps/finisnes off the forearm, if I remember, the threads on the sleeve that fits inside the forearm are very fine and easily crossthreaded.

  8. Not so long go...there was a video called heart shot posted...showing pretty graphic footage of an arrow going through a does heart and it kicking out and making a death run..then it was shown in slow mo...then another similar showing the exit of an arrow...lots of blood... deer dying etc..etc.....hmmm......remind me...did we see this much angst over that...or even any?

good post....killing an animal is seldom a pretty sight.

  9. whether or not many want to admit it, and whether it's 4 deer in 9 seconds or 1 deer in 1 second, killing an animal with a firearm or an arrow is a rather brutal (for lack of a better word) way of ending it's life and isn't always pretty......I've made perfect shots on deer and watched them make the death run, bounce off trees and flop around for a couple seconds and also made bad shots that I'm sure caused a much longer death..........it's all part of what we do, and what can happen..........

  10. It seems like many of the posters feel that it is fine to enjoy HUNTING deer, but it is somehow not as acceptable to enjoy KILLING deer...

That video looked like FUN to me.. I enjoy pulling the trigger, but have never had an opportunity to be in the situation of having that many tags and that many targets. Besides...I prefer not to shoot fawns( personal preference) and to sort the kids from the adults in a situation like this takes some time.. That's just me.

Could I or many other posters on this forum execute the same thing, given the opportunity ?

Hell YES...!!.. Put me there with my 1100 and give me 4 tags and I'll give you 4 dead deer every day of the week. I am sure that there are many experienced hunters on this forum that could do the same.

Basically, it was 4 easy shots...3 were stationary ( or nearly so) and one was running, but it was CLOSE...

Whether you like the OP or not, saying that he was taking questionable shots is pure BS.

I find it odd that some are mortified and disgusted by a spine shot deer crawling around for 15 seconds before it's finished off, but yet it's totally acceptable to let an arrow shot deer run off and spend the next 4-8 hours dying from a poorly placed arrow while the shooter waits it out, in fact, you'll hear many say that it's the right thing to do.

  11. You can use the 10 round mag, just max load 7 for the sake of saving yourself some BS from the law.

It is illegal to take or hunt wildlife:

    • while in or on a motor vehicle (except by the holder of a Non Ambulatory Hunter Permit).
    • with the aid of a vehicle's lights.
    • on or from any public road.
    • with any firearm equipped with a silencer.
    • with any firearm which continues to fire as long as the trigger is held back (an automatic firearm).
    • with a spear.
    • with a bow equipped with any mechanical device which is attached to the bow (other than the bowstring) for drawing, holding or releasing the bowstring, except for a hunter with a disability who is in possession of a Modified Archery Permit (compound bows are legal).
    • with a spear gun or crossbow except for a hunter with a disability who is in possession of a Modified Crossbow Permit.
    • with an arrow with an explosive head or shaft.
    • with any device designed or intended to deliver drugs to an animal.
    • with any semi-automatic firearm with a capacity to hold more than 6 rounds, EXCEPT the following semi-automatic firearms:
      1. firearms using .22 or .17 caliber rimfire ammunition, or
      2. firearms altered to reduce their capacity to no more than 6 shells at one time in the magazine and chamber combined, or
      3. autoloading pistols with a barrel length of less than eight inches.

  12. People shouldn't underestimate the population numbers downstate.  Not everyone may vote, but there are still more than enough that do.  Every NY gun owner could vote against Cuomo and he'd still win.  Honestly gun owners could never oust him on their own, so you guys better get used to this fact.  The only way he could lose is if he pisses off a good percentage of democrats in the state for various other reasons.  So far he hasn't done that.

    yup.......
