  1. For 2013-14 all Bonus DMPs will be valid only for antlerless deer. Bonus DMPs that are used to take an antlerless deer may be replaced with another Bonus DMP. Bonus DMPs used to take an antlered deer will not be replaced. No fee will be charged for the Bonus DMP..............just reading that second to last sentence alone indicates to me that some bonus DMP's can be used for antlered deer, they just won't replace it.

    • Bonus DMPs in WMUs (1C, 3S, 4J and 8C)

Hunters who fill a DMP tag by harvesting an antlerless deer can apply for an additional (bonus) DMP to harvest another deer of either sex. Bonus DMPs that are used to take an antlerless deer may be replaced with another Bonus DMP........how's that? it looks like it says either sex to me, so much for people who give out bad info.

  2. WMU 1C Bonus DMP Issuance

Bonus Deer Management Permits for WMU 1C are available to hunters who take antlerless deer on any Unit 1C DMPs (original or Bonus DMPs), during either the Suffolk County regular (bowhunting-only) or firearm season. Bonus DMPs are valid only in WMU 1C during both the regular season and the special January firearms deer season.

There are six locations available to obtain "Bonus DMPs" for Unit 1C

  3. I'ts a waste to not grab 1C, You are awarded a preference point if you are not picked on your first choice, 2nd choice has nothing to do with preference points

    • Preference points are won and lost on first permit selection only.
    • If you receive a DMP in your first choice WMU, all available preference points will be used.
    • If you do not receive a DMP in your first choice WMU, you will receive a preference point for the following year.

I always get them after they become available as leftovers, but thanks for the clarification...good to know.

  4. the way it was explained to me is that Suffolk doesn't technically have a bowseason......they have a regular season that only allows archery gear as a legal implement, so any deer taken is actually taken during the regular season, not bowseason.

  5. I actually just researched this. We needed a phone at work in a remote building for emergencies only. The pay as you go phones do require you call or text at least a few times a month, and also charge you a minimum fee. So they're not exactly as "free" as they seem. the best I found was the trac phone.

if it's for emergencies, I would think you'd like to check it a few times a month anyway to make sure it's working properly, so that should take care of the minimum use requirement.

  6. The reg's say an archery license is needed to bowhunt during the archery season...........Suffolk's archery season is actually considered the "regular season", so I think all that is needed is the certificate, I always bought the tag just to avoid problems. Make a call and talk to someone at the region 1 HQ to be sure.

  7.  Not a fan of any folding knife for gutting or any skinning/processing. Probably just in my head but I don't like nooks and crannies in a gutting knife for bacteria to hide in.

or the chance of it folding up on your hand.

  8. you have to bring the head with tagged attached to either the check station in Ridge or DEC HQ in Stony Brook............you should always call before you go to make sure someone is available to issue the bonus tag...I may be wrong on this one, but pretty sure they are only issued if you take an antlerless deer.

  9. was the log torn up at all? if a bear finds a log that's bug infested they will tear the bark up to get to them........I found a deer carcass that a bear had gotten to, all the grass around it was flattened out where the bear had laid down while eating it.

  10. since you were at an archery shop, did you bring your bow and have one of the pro's check it out and give you advice on what you may or may not need to do to correct some of the issue's you were having?

  11. I was on a nuisance permit a few years back, the farmer and his family would shoot does and bucks alike and throw them in a ditch and bury them........was really no reason for me to ever pass on anything, at least if I shot something it wouldn't go to waste...........DEC always took the antlers off any bucks, we weren't allowed to keep them.

  12. I'm pretty sure "booby traps" are a no no......do a search on them where people were killed or physically injured, and most of the time the person who set them has been charged criminally.
