  1. "Jumping the string"...Interesting term. The "jump" is actually a gathering motion in preparation for flight that lowers the deer's body. (Think the "squat before the jump.) This flinching type move by the deer can be caused by the sound of the string/arrow, or the movement of bow/arrow/hunter, or both. Whatever, it can often (I speak from experience) cause a high miss..."Shot right over his damn back!"

Additional comment: Deer are almost always on "high alert"...their lives depend on it!

    exactly........

  2. don't know why......only the ones that attach to your wrist are........my guess is because at some point in time, some jackass used it to injure someone.

on second thought, you can scratch that theory......I'm sure more people have been killed or injured with ordinary butcher knives, paintball guns and the like.........don't really know why they were added to the list of banned weapons in NY.

  3. Gander said slingshots are illegal. meanwhile while on my way into harbor freight tools a man walks out with a machete costing 4.99!

    Crossbow Policy Statement

The Pope and Young Club was founded to promote bowhunting and to record for posterity the outstanding examples of North American big game animals taken solely with the hunting bow.

For the purpose of the Pope and Young Club, a bow shall be defined as a longbow, recurve bow or compound bow that is hand-held and hand-drawn, and that has no mechanical device to enable the hunter to lock the bow at full or partial draw. Other than the energy stored by the drawn bow, no device to propel the arrow will be permitted.

Consequently, the Pope and Young Club does not consider the crossbow to be a hunting bow and will not accept any trophies collected by crossbow hunters. Further, the Pope and Young Club considers the use of crossbows during bowhunting seasons to be a serious threat to the future of bowhunting.

The Pope and Young Club therefore recommends the crossbow should not be considered for use in any bowhunting only season. Also, the Club strongly recommends that crossbow hunting be abolished from all existing bowhunting only seasons and the use of crossbows for hunting be restricted to firearms seasons.

  5. So, I got my new Covert trail-cam. Set-up was super easy. I love it already and haven't even taken the fist pic yet. Only one hitch ...... today I went to the doctor for a super-inflamed left elbow. Doctor put the whole arm in splint from my hand to almost up to my shoulder to immobilize it, so here I sit with one arm in sling. Anybody know how to strap a camera to a tree with only one hand? Tomorrow the wife has volunteered to help me out with that.  Just like the old days when she used to help run the trap-line during the week. She's a good ol' lady ..... lol.

I could tell you a few things you could do with one hand......unfortunately strapping a camera to a tree isn't one of them.

  6.  I certainly understand...as I said my best girl friend and first roomy is blk American. Ohh boy different ways of thinking..then throw in another friend of  Jamaican decent...

Let me give my own perspective on this whole race thing...

As whites many of us have to live down a sad history...being a woman I can say that whites back then weren't all that picky on their discrimination's...hell they manage to go a across the board color gender and age...personally what happened to blks doesn't compare to what they did to the native Americans...for one thing now lets be truly honest on this...it was warring tribes selling off captured enemy's that got many Africans over here in the first place and because they were considered a essential property...it was important to even minimally..feed and care for them...now lets go to the native Americans that had their land stolen ...were put on lands to starve and freeze to death and had armed forces shooting them...Do I have you seeing some perspective here?...I'll assume so and will not get into woman and work houses...children and work houses..for if a husband died the woman retained no rights of property...

Now a tiny back ground laid lets get to now...Whites were expect to evolve and we have worked our tails off... though kicking and screaming  most have...we've opened our eyes and have turned several corners but what we are turning corners into is the exact same type of irrational hate and bigotry that the blk Americans fought to get rid of...Blks are more racist(not all) than the whts ever thought of being.... if the curtain were to be drawn for a good hard look...For many not all...... but a very large cultural segment.... have no care  in seeing equality.... it's revenge  that fuels the hatred ....foolish revenge over something that happened in the past and can't be undone by ppl no one living now resemble...and that is a far cry from what original happened in this country centuries ago...

this country was built by hard working immigrants who wanted better lives for their families.......well most did anyway, some are content to feed off what they think they're owed.

  7. Everyone describes Trayvon Martin as a child .....granted , he wasn't an adult.

Wouldn't juvenile be a better description than child ? More media hype I guess.

no doubt he should be classified as a juvenile and not a child.........but I think the way he is portrayed as a thug, gang banger or drug dealer really have no concrete evidence......he may have been all the above or none of the above.

  8. Yea don't you remember being young, dumb and..well lets keep this PG.  How many fights did you have at that age, c'mon just because he was black now he's a "wanna be" gangbanber etc...

yup..........the jury came to their decision based on the facts, no argument there. A lot of good kids get suspended from school, smoke pot and get into fights. I won't even begin to suggest I know what kind of kid he was, he could have been the biggest scumbag or just your average kid.......to just come out and say he was a drug dealer, thug, gang banger or anything else seems excessive, the only thing we know for sure, is that based on the facts, Zimmerman was in fear of his life and was justified in what he did.

  9. No ruffled feathers here but let me ask you this question...Where is the righteous indignation they have shown in this case... both ppl being of two different colored  skin ..yet still everyone an American...verse the reaction to the same type of near daily occurrence across the US... of same skin toned Americans killing each other?

Why are we all seeing certain American leaders coming out to incite turmoil when ppl of their particular constituency are gunning each other and or ppl of another lighter skin tone?

When you can give me a sensible answer to that then I look harder at the "other" side of things

    (sp)

and when you have a president who feels the need to speak out about one killing, when he could care less about the 1000's other that occur every year, really doesn't help the situation.

  10. NOT defending the BP at all but if you look at this thing from the other side the only thing they see again is a black boy murdered and killer gets away scott free, gun and all.  It doesn't matter if some jury "interprets the law" and says Zim did nothing unlawful.  Yes I know most people don't know all the facts or Florida laws but whether justice was done or not alot of americans feel wronged, again...

Not talking about the extreme left groups but everyday people.  Sorry to ruffle feathers

all we ask is that people not act like animals...........

  11. Dude, I don't really know for sure how risky sharks are. Algae blooms do kill many dogs and the conditions we are having right now , of heat and sun for days on weeks creates blooms. Even if the algae is across the pond - the toxin might drift. So right now, Im keeping my dogs away from water. Besides, ducks & geese have young and the adults are flightless due to molting, so its a good conservation practice to keep dogs away anyway. Even if your dog doesn't catch any they are using energy and attracting the attention of predators when they flee domestic dogs.

my last post was a joke........I agree that bacteria is a big concern, more so than any shark attack...........when I had retrievers, more than once, they've had the sh*ts for days after spending time in the water during the summer.............I don't think any of those things are a real concern during the winter months.

  12. I have been using my therma cell lol, I hate bugs more then I hate guys from the city.

which city, Albany, Rochester, Buffalo, Troy, Syracuse?.............

  13. I really don't know the migratory habits of sharks, but I guess I am a liberal because I agree with Al Gore that things are warming up and I don't recall hunting before November back in the day, but these days waterfowl seasons have an early first split. I think there probably is many more sharks then we know about, especially bull sharks - which have more testosterone than any animal and are known to forage in tidal creeks and have been found in the Mississippi and Missouri rivers before they were dammed, as far inland as illionois  or one of those states. Plus waterfowl hunting might be done in more quiet, mucky areas and at sunrise- who knows what lurks there & then? I also believe I heard sharks are more likely to attack dogs than people. Too much uncertainty for me.

just wondering, if it's true, I got 2 dogs I'd like to take for a swim........LOL

  14. Cool, thanks. But then what is my reason to my girlfriend as to why I need to walk around Cabelas (Hartford) for 2 hours? lol.

I'm sure you could find a dozen reasons more to do that.......

  15. Thanks guys. I'm going up to Boston in a few weeks, on the way home I plant to stop at Cabelas. I will check them out there.

Home Depot carries them as well....at least the one by me does.
