  1. Me ? No. I can shoot a doe most sits. We let young bucks walk and have some real nice ones in the area , that's what I'm after. I took a decent buck in bow and my goal is a much bigger one in gun.

This morning I took a good sized doe as conditions were right, right stand , time of day, close to my car for an easy drag. But I'm fortunate I have a very good spot and tons of time to hunt.

This question varies so much depending on where guys hunt and how much they do.

One guy on the farm took three doe by 9:00 AM today , I know someone else that shot one out the kitchen window .....

Some on here can go days without seeing one.

    yup, well said.

  2. Most will wait in anticipation of a buck on a does heals. I know a lot of meat hunters who also bitch about not seeing bucks, but always blast the first doe they see. As long as you don't bitch about not seeing bucks than I'm ok with what you do.

More of my bucks have come on the heals of doe than not.

I actually had a buck chasing a doe around me a few weeks ago, could I have waited for the buck? sure....but killed the first one that gave me a shot...the doe, no regrets whatsoever.

  3. Just talked to him. He's going to arkville/harden urge area. He said its 3A, Ulster County. He got an 8pt and 5pt out of there in the 1980s. He had seen bear too but not when they were in same season as deer like they are now.

Not sure if the property has an actual name? He just said its thousands of acres and his spot is about a 45min uphill.

ok, we hunt 4W & 4R....just the other side of 3A. There is a decent bear population theses days, although I think 3A is tough deer hunting these days, antler restrictions for a few years and no dmp's....haven't been there in years, we used to hunt around Little Pond Campsite and the Big Pond area, not sure if the deer herd has bounced back since the new rules.

  4. Monday 11/23: while I was at work my Dad hunted dark - 11am and saw no deer. He is resting up this afternoon and leaving at 2am tomorrow to head to margaretville state land. He hasn't been up there in decades but knows how to get to his spot from doing the walk all the time in the 70s and 80s.

do you care to specify which state lands? we were just up there this past weekend.................if he hasn't been up there in years, he will be pleasantly surprised by the amount of pubic access land that has opened. He'll probably also be surprised by the lack of hunter's compared to the 70's and 80's.

  5. I am actually sitting in the concrete jungle this morning thinking I will bring a bottle of home made wine and knock on his door and ask to have a sit down.  It may not be worth it though as despite what apparently is coming off here, I am not REAL worked up.

The way the deer run my area is essentially a loop. Come off his land wander across mine, up, turn and walk across another landowners or two, then come down on the other side of his land.  So no, deer don't always go in both directions at least on my place they dont.

Any rate, only three days of work again this week then off to the woods. Good luck out there.

have you ever spoken to him about anything, just in general?

  6. LEGALLY and literally are 2 different things. After all the question is "how do I tag it?" Doesn't matter what's between its legs as far as your tag is concerned...

oh, I thought tag asked the sex of the animal.......if you use an antlerless tag on a deer that is not legally antlered, you still have to tell them what the sex is.

  7. If it has one antler that is 3" then its legally a buck. Less than that and its a doe...

I think it's what's between it's legs that determines whether or not it's a buck or doe..........it's what on top of the head that determines whether it's an antlered or antlerless deer.........

  8. so, I assume you're not on speaking terms with him and are unable to find out what's behind his reasoning? there's usually a story behind most people not getting along with a neighbor....sometimes it really is just a matter of one being nuts, but usually there is some type of history.

  9. I really highly doubt with that last response your an elite anything.........

at least "elite" enough to understand some of the factors that create a quieter season then in years past in some areas.......

  10. By the time it takes to count 3 pts is the reason people are not hunting?  Your kidding me right???

umm, no...but the deer that someone may have shot at 3 years ago just because it was a buck, is now getting a pass because they can't be certain it's legal......you're kidding me, right? I cold have killed half a dozen bucks in the last few years that I had to let walk because I couldn't count points......

  11. Growie is busy, she had a lot going on, she is a retired teacher so I am sure she knows grammar and punctuation

I'm not too worried about her...pretty sure she is doing much better in life then a lot of others on here. There are those who like to find a weak spot and attack it......

  12. The simple fact is it takes mere seconds to proof read one's work. Posting misspelled words and incoherent rambling exposes the illiterates among us.

yeah, because this site is full of Yale and Harvard graduates.....
