Probably should leave now to beat others there. I'm blessed not to have to hunt public land. Hunt brothers 70 acres and never see a soul let alone hear any shots on same mountain side. Just jinxed myself, and he's got property up for sale too.
honestly our spots have been surprisingly quiet the past few years.....and haven't seen another bowhunter in quite a few, the whole opening of rifle just doesn't grab me anymore like it used to....I could be just as happy going up and catching up on some sleep.
-
state land, on the ground...hoping I get there before someone else, high expectations after what I saw bowhunting............but honestly, I'd rather stay home and bowhunt Long Island....tradition calls so I'll drag myself up for the opener.

yup.

Not according to AT. Most report them as identical.
X-Calibur Lighting Systems
as in "identically crappy"?.......I honestly have no idea, but read it on the internet, so must be mostly true.

I think someone posted, last year, that they got a bad pack of Rage broad heads. They fell apart or were bad right out of the pack. A few years back I had a brand new Rocky fixed blade fall apart in a block target. I guess you get bad ones now and then, but I can't blame you for not using them again.
there were knock off "rage broadheads" being sold on ebay......from what I hear they were crap, but I guess the price tag sold a few people on them

I don't care, when I read them I was like really. I literally have a police officer with me and you are going to bust my balls....I am not a rule breaker! What is said on the internet doesn't bother me...its all good...
nah, I shouldn't have said that....but either way, I'm gonna say low lung hit.
-
exit or entry? and what vitals where hit?.....that could very well be a lung hit or bottom of the heart, did you check them out when you gutted?
-
I edited my post to remove my closing comment.....sorry if it was out of line, just thought it was one of those "better off not said" things....congrat's on the deer.
-
The hit was a little low....I have pics of the hit on my phone, I will try to post one later but I was having a terrible time posting from phone. I honestly don't see why a county police officer can't grant permission to someone in their county but I honestly have no idea. He assured me it would be fine and I chose to listen to him right or wrong....I would not have done it if he was not there......I would have found another way....
either way, you probably made a good choice pushing him...sometimes that is a better option then letting them lay.

so, where was the hit? this may have been one of the cases where it was better to push him as opposed to letting him go.....good job either way.....
-
a good photo is better than a good mount.....in my opinion anyway.
-
unless you have deer that travel the same exact route all the time, it's real tough to depend totally on the wind...........

Here is one of mine , specially made for napping with out the wife finding you.
hahaha......if it wasn't for the boots, you would be invisible.
-
that's amazing, you can't even see the guy in either of the pictures.......at first glance it almost looks like the Trebark camo that first came out 30+ years ago.

yes, they can live.....and lose an ungodly amount of blood, to the point you'd swear it was impossible for them to survive. That being said, I would search until the bitter end.

yeah, I guess there is a big difference between shooting and actual performance......you could have a slug that shoots nice on paper but is horrible when it comes down to doing the job. I personally have zero complaints with the Hornady or Lightfields, but haven't had any bad shot placement or tough shots where things could go wrong.

"Black Velvet"
didn't she used to dance in that little place in town back in the day?

nice deer......I was hunting one similar the past few weeks, never got a close look but was convinced he was a nice 6 or 8............that was until this past week, finally could have killed him and turned out he was only a 4pt.......Thanks to AR's, I had to let him walk.

Deer herd in a stick is a cover scent I truly believe is a great product
I've been using "Ever Calm" the past two years....so far the only scent I'll continue to buy and use.
-
Lol well now that u put it that way .... My thought was that if it makes bucks scared because it smells like a mature buck
I've had deer pay no attention to scents, be attracted and show curiosity, and some slam on the brakes and take off..........no saying what will happen.
-
Will buck tarsal scent scare bucks away I picked it up to give it a try in a scrape but might not because my buddy says is scares deer away
hmmm, I'm no expert, but if tarsal glands scared deer away, they would never stop running away from each other........pretty sure that all deer regardless of sex have them.
-
I would venture to guess that taking measures to be as scent free as possible are better then just saying the hell with it and not doing anything......and as I've mentioned before, using cover scents to mask body odor is pretty much the same as spraying Rose scented room spray in a bathroom after destroying it......you still know something bad happened there, now it just smells like sh@t and roses instead of just plain sh@t.

Hornady SST or Lightfield......

I never get any support for this idea...lol.. But, I am all for
2 weeks traditional bow,
2 weeks compound,
2 weeks crossbow,
2 weeks traditional ml,
2 weeks ml,
2 weeks firearm..
Not having a dedicated season for each weapon leads to the ( more or less) the extinction of a tradition..
Very few, except for the diehards will opt for the lesser weapon.
I support that 100%.........that's the progression that I feel is right.

like I said, no experience...just going off what I read. I actually used Rage for the first time this year and was impressed...but like anything else, people LOVE em until something goes wrong and they need to blame something other then themselves
