  1. wow........I've never given as much thought as to how badly I was getting screwed over the past 34 years of hunting deer with these crazy sunrise / sunset laws, as I have these past few days.......when do we take the fight to Albany??

  2. These things all tell us or entice us to use illegal products to hunt.

I have never been told, or enticed to use illegal products because they were on a store shelf...........I always thought they were there just to give me a good laugh, which I'll admit they do.

  3. What ugly uniforms they had on last night. They looked like green and red Christmas elves running around.

Maybe I had a little bit too much to drink last night.

I have no idea if it's true or not, but the local news was saying that colorblind fans were pissed because red and green are two colors they can't see and it made for a confusing game.

  4. I think doing the ethical thing is doing the "right thing".........regardless of what law is being bent, unless you're bending it for good, in your mind anyway, how can you say you did the "right thing"? if you kill a deer 5 minutes after legal hours to end its suffering, you broke the law, but arguably did the ethical thing. If you kill a deer 5 minutes after legal hours because you needed to kill it so badly you couldn't resist, well that's not legal or ethical........

  5. I have shot deer that came out my my saw in my hand. I think they notice your scent a lot more and a branch or two missing

I agree, I only think it really matters if you're dropping trees that in some way alter their normal travel route.

  6. I go 15' up when possible...I also have the rope I pull my bow up with marked so I know when I'm at my desired height. I killed one from a natural ground blind this year that was set up last year using old xmas trees so they had plenty of time to get used to it...that was a 20 yard shot.

sorry for the sideways photo.....11/10/15, PSE Fang, Rage Broadhead, 20 yard shot....10 yard tracking job. Oh, and before I shot her, she was being chased around by a buck about 100 yards away....I stayed in stand for a little longer hoping he would follow, I finally got down and figured I would drag her a ways off before gutting with plans on hunting the area later on, as I was dragging I noticed the buck making his way towards me so I slowly walked back to my stand which was now at the base of the tree and waited....he walked to within 20 yards of me and went to her and stuck around offering me numerous perfect shots.......he was the biggest 4pt I have ever seen, but we have antler restrictions so all I could do was sit and watch...good show none the less.

  8. I don't see a problem at all, I've trimmed branches a day or two before killing a deer out of a stand. I usually wear rubber gloves while doing so to limit the amount of scent spread around as I do when hanging a last minute stand, but not really sure that's even needed.

  9. I have one....seems decent and I took a doe this past Tuesday, 20 yard shot with complete pass through and broke a few ribs. I personally would limit my shots to 30 yards...as others have said, the scope is a POS, I upgraded to a Nikon scope and the yardage adjustments are very good. I have zero experience with high end xbows so can't comment on the benefits.

  10. And most of the perfects just never post their failures. Learning from mistakes and getting advice is what a truly humble and learned man will do.

quite honestly, I've been around the block a few times and really don't need the advice or attacks of those who have the same or less experience then myself....tracked more deer then the majority, having had deer tracking dogs and having been a member of Deer Search for a few years, I'm fairly confident that I don't need to seek out help from others as I have probably seen every scenario possible....post a failure here for those less experienced to attack? I think not.

  11. Just wanted to congratulate Fletch on being the first to post a successful crossbow kill. After being denied the first 38 days of the bow season.

was he denied? I think he was out there and tagged a nice buck with his bow.......he got the best of both worlds.

  12. Well, look at you getting all indignant .... lol. I probably should remind you that not everything is about you. There were 5 pages of replies in that thread, and I don't recall mentioning your name or your comment.

My comments here are simply that I am finding a general lack of consistency between these two threads, in terms of what we are getting outraged over and what we accept as being simply a mistake. Personally, I find most of that kind of judgmental crap unnecessary and there comes a time where we begin to cross over from simple information sharing as in this thread, to page after page of un-ending malicious moralizing, as in the other thread.

well, actually you did directly mention my comment...... "And I do love the creative quoting. That was cute.".............that was you who said that in response to my comment...yes?

  13. Therein lies the rub. A detachable mag is just that, detachable, and the argument could certainly be made that a bullet button or a maglock doesn't conflict with the premise that it's still a detachable magazine. Depends on the judge and the prosecutor.

There is currently some language in the law, however, that qualifies that detachablity to mean "without the use of tools". The point of a bullet is a tool to detach the magazine. JMO.

The more we talk about it here, the more the idiots will refine their laws. They don't know what they're talking about, but they do keep an eye on this site.

If memory serves me correctly, there was a guy who was making and selling NY compliant AR's that got in a bit of a jam, the issue was, that although a "maglock" was in place, it was still accessible with tools and therefore not compliant....I believe this was corrected by sealing the lock with an epoxy or some other substance that eliminated that.

  14. I have a Barnett Raptor, $350 or so. Got bad shoulders, so when they passed the law, I went and bought it. Didn't want to drop a lot of money if I could only use it a couple weeks. And I wasn't sure if I would even like it. Well, I do like it. Not love it. And it is fun to shoot, and very accurate out to my hunting range of 30 yards. But the scope that came with it is garbage. It is very loud and the plastic bolt retaining spring broke the first time I shot it, a Barnett thing. So perhaps after full inclusion I will upgrade. But for now it is ok, and I will be hunting with it the next few days. Hoping to kill a deer.

yeah, don't let the add ons sell you on one.......I expect to see the used market flooded with cheaper xbows if they get full inclusion and guys really get into it, But I've pissed away a few hundred bucks on lesser things so no great loss if I decide I really like it and want to upgrade.
