I'll tell my lady friends.....

Taking of young bucks does it really make sense?
jjb4900 replied to HuntNfish100's topic in Region 5
I totally agree, I KNOW there are big mature bucks on the public land we hunt......however trophy hunting is not my priority, not to mention I don't usually have the time to devote to holding out for one, but for those who do, the opportunities are definitely there. -
How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?
jjb4900 replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
I based that off of what I see and read outside of my hunting world....I don't know anyone in my circle of hunting friends who have that problem, but sadly I have seen the old time hunting camps slowly disappearing. -
How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?
jjb4900 replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
I knew plenty of hunters whose biggest thrill was seeing what other guys brought back to camp....those guys are gone as well as the old time hunting camps......now "antler envy" and "look at me" are king. -

young bucks, like 1.5 - 2 years old?.........yes, it's been making sense to me forever. -
that's a great picture!

if you go iron sights, make sure you have binoculars.....especially if you hunt an antler restriction zone or don't want to mistake a little spike for a doe.
-
oh, and I think the indoor ranges have a pretty consistent customer base and stay busy year round, so those may be worth a look as well.
-
two weeks before season opens, with the weekend before being an absolute madhouse at some.......the only problem I see is some ranges make $$ selling targets, so they probably wouldn't be too keen on the idea of offering up free ones, but you never know.
-
I always lay the scent in a big circle, with my stand at the point that would be the start and finish of it.....that way no matter which way they go, they always have to come past me.
-
well, I'm not quite sure it's nonsense..there are many animals, my dogs for sure, that can tell which way an animal is traveling...maybe with artificial lures, but in the real world many can....I'm sure there's exceptions to every rule...but like I said I'm no expert, but for every time you say it's nonsense, I have an instance where I say it's not.

last year I used "ever calm", while I can't say it brought them in, I can say that every deer in range appeared comfortable and it certainly didn't spook any....I'll definitely use it again.
-
but, unfortunately it's allowed and legal in some if not most areas.
-
I see a field day coming for the ECO's during the first two weeks....
-
I've sweated my ass off putting up stands and killed deer that same afternoon out of them.......
-
yeah, that's no better than nuisance permits....I personally won't shoot extra deer with the intention of just dumping it off at a donation center or anywhere else for that matter. I only do so if I can use it or I have a specific person who wants it for personal use.
-
reminds me of when we first had antler restrictions placed on our zone.....most I spoke to didn't know until I told them.
-
I don't know the science behind it, but they know......not much different then a hunting dog that is trained to chase animals, they know which way the animal traveled......but then again that is a live animal that the stronger the scent is the fresher the track scent is. I have blood tracking dachshunds that can tell which way a wounded deer went, and sometimes the track is cold, but they still know. I'm sure there is a good answer, but I don't have it.

I think (if memory serves me correct) this is controlled by the dept. of Agriculture and you may find some info on their website......

you're not Italian by any chance are you? or as they say, a "Goodfella"?

Springcreek outfitters missouri is a scam
jjb4900 replied to Wiseman's topic in Out of New York Hunting
well written...... -
maybe start with talking to them about stuff other than hunting for starters?......work that into a later conversation after you get a feel for them........
-
yup, I was just thinking about all the western states that have been killing big game for weeks already..........
-
as do I, that way there's no regrets..

"could" result in damage? believe me, it eventually will if you don't protect yourself now........
