  1. damn, they outsmarted everyone but you...now I feel really stupid.
  2. many fail to realize that the responding Officer has no control over when the call is dispatched to them, that's controlled by the dispatch center...does anyone honestly believe the responding Officer holds a call for an hour or two after being assigned? I hope not.....
  3. I have no problem with the guy who would use it and hunt in the same way they would bow hunt with their other archery gear....it's the clowns who proclaim it to be the best thing since sliced bread that make me leery...... taking shots that they aren't sure they can make, like you, and thanking god that it turned out well. If guys used it and hunted like the archery season was meant for, no problem....but, you're the poster boy for why some guys hate it.....I'm willing to bet that you make most legit crossbow advocates cringe when they read the crap you spew.....you just sound like a lazy guy who wants an easier way to kill a deer.
  4. not to mention the big dollar landscaping trees and shrubs.......
  5. I may be way off, but the back tags may be more for one hunter / landowner to identify people who are doing wrong, not so much for the benefit of the DEC......I realize that they may be hard to read and or get the #, but that's beside the point.
  6. trespassing with a firearm should carry a bigger penalty.....
  7. I've been shooting Remington for years because it's affordable and more then adequate for deer hunting......I've dabbled in other brands but never found anything shockingly better that got me to change. Federal has also been a good shooter for what I do.
  8. you're 100% correct in that statement.....not every area is legally huntable, but some people have no limit as to what length they will go to kill a big deer.
  9. I wish I had a dollar for every crime that was solved or stopped because of a "busy body"......not quite the same as the person who goes snooping around to "find" stuff to call and report....too totally different things in my book
  10. yup, someone had posted a deer that lived in a sump in Suffolk awhile back and I figured out where in no time....it's an unhuntable area (at least as far as I was concerned) so it didn't matter, but you're exactly right.
  11. I have no problem with the person who calls in suspicious activity in their neighborhood, that meaning people and vehicles that don't belong.......but that certainly does not include calling on a neighbor who is doing things that are petty, nothing worse than a bad neighbor.
  12. yeah, that's a special kind of scumb@g that will take apart a rock wall and chop down trees.............not too sure I would go too far out of my way to get him his stand back.
  13. pretty sure you would have to read the entire ECL to see all the laws that are in writing...........the regulation book you get with your license is just a very small portion of the laws.
  14. I've been saying for a long time that many greatly overestimate the amount of hunters who keep on top of new proposals and regulations.......like stated above, many, and probably the greater majority of license holders, take a very casual approach to it.........
  15. yeah, the heck with trying to be a neighbor....just call the cops before you try anything else.
  16. yes, both illegal....but, I'm still surprised at the number of people who don't know feeding deer is illegal......I would venture to guess that all hunters know that baiting is illegal (hopefully), but maybe not so much in the feeding area?....I would talk to him first and enlighten him before taking further action. But, then you tip your hand if the authorities are called....such a dilemma, what's a man to do?
  17. I would talk to him if it really bothers you before I would call the authorities...........wayyyy too many people screw up relationships with neighbors by calling the Police before making an effort to take care of it on their own in a friendly type way. Although it's wrong, how many guys post trail camera pictures of deer with bait tossed in front of the camera with no ill intention other then trying to see what's in the area?...we see it all the time, and he may very well have no intention of hunting over it, nothing worse than an angry neighbor.
  18. brought me back to the days I used to hunt Quail and quite honestly that's what I thought they were at first.....wasn't until I saw mom that I realized they were Grouse.
  19. a mother Grouse and about 8-10 young ones, we pulled into the driveway and as we were walking to the house a bunch of birds took off from the tall grass at the edge of the woods and flew into the trees.....the little ones were about the size of Quail and landed in nearby trees, we went inside and watched as they slowly flew down and regrouped. I have never seen one baby Grouse let alone that many, cool stuff to say the least.
  20. is this a piece that your Father is looking to buy or is it a lease or just land that you got permission to hunt on?
  21. yup, how can they prove you didn't have consent?.......they would have to subpoena all the landowners and have them confirm you didn't have their permission....much along the lines that if you owned the land you would have to carry proof of same, I don't see it happening.
  22. I hunt for meat, am more than willing to hunt from Oct 1st till the end of the season..........if the new regs mean less hunters for the 1st two weeks, then all the better for me.
