Same here. I don't use anything fancy, just the basics. But, I don't feel superior to anyone else because of my choice of equipment. It's your time out there, use it anyway you see fit.
From the research I have done. Until you start shooting good groups, don't worry too much about fine tuning. Just pick an arrow that's correctly spined and start shooting.
I just bought a recurve myself for the same reason. I have arrows on the way right now too.
