  1. I won't quit until I can't physically do it anymore. Its part of who I am. When I was single one of the first things I would tell a woman is that I hunt every second I can during deer season. If she couldn't deal with it, then we would end it there. I will follow any law passed wether I like it or not. It comes down to doing what I have to to be able to hunt.
  2. I try to fill tags all season, but late ML is my time to fill any voids in the freezer. I took 2 doe this late season. A small one the first day and a big one on Saturday.
  3. I am a mixture of 3,4, and 5. I appreciate the time I spend doing it and with who. But my goal every year is a 3 year old or better buck. However, I want to kill that buck my way. Usually that means while tracking or still hunting, but I have different goals some years.

    Deer age

Agreed. Every deer a guy I work with shoots is at least 5 to him. I have argued to I am blue in the face that you can't age a deer with a 100% accuracy. Especially by weight. I know guys who have a widow of about 20lbs that they age deer in.

If you look at the third tooth in the lower jaw, you can tell if it's above or below two years of age. You have count the crest. Two crest equals 2 or older, three crest means its below 2. Other than that it's just an educated guess.
  6. Finished the marsh video last night. Have to say again I was impressed. These guys know their stuff and are successful because of it. I am going to join their forum and hopefully pick up so more info.
  7. Second doe with my muzzleloader this late season. Shot her while walking thru some cattails. She was looking right at me so I shot her in the white patch under her chin.
  8. Any year I get to hunt a lot. Time spent in the field is important to me. My worst years are the one's where I have a lot of regret about missing a lot of time in the woods.
  9. They keep lengthening the season and my wife's gonna leave me! Hahaha
  10. I wear two layers down to about 15 degrees, under armour base layer and Cabelas "wooltimate" pants and jacket. Below 15, I add a layer of 100% polyester fleece. For my feet, it's wool socks and Muck boots. A fleece balaclava is what I wear on my head. I have never needed more than this.
  11. There is a hunk of state land up near Pulaski that used to have a ton of carcasses laying around near the entrance. I believe it was a taxidermist due to a good number of what looked to be caribou and elk skulls.
  12. I am a DIY guy and am considering either a elk or mulie hunt sometime soon. From the research I have done, success with a DIY hunt is very possible if your willing to do the research and get off the road.
  13. I like the ones from victorinox. They work well, are easy to clean and have a good ease of sharpening to edge holding ratio.
  14. Nice. Let me know what you think, I was pretty impressed with the hill vid.
  15. I finally got a chance to watch this. It's definitely one of the most informative deer hunting videos on the market. I will be ordering the marsh one next.
  16. Congrats! That's a nice area up there.
  17. I use a 16oz Nalgene bottle
  18. Very true! I have killed more than one buck by changing my pattern after finding a change in his pattern while still hunting. Things like a new rub line that wasn't there a week before. Scouting during the season is more productive for me than pre-season and still hunting is the best way.
  19. I use a pattern to keep me moving slow. A 1-3 count if you will. I take one slow step and then three complete 360 degree field of view scans. Counting like this is how I keep from wanting to pick up the pace.
  20. I ordered this video Monday. I am looking forward to receiving it after reading several good reviews. I find that I can always learn something from books and videos, even if I have to tweak it a bit to work for me. Another good series of books and vodeos is done by Hal Blood if anyone is looking at the Benoit style. Google Hal Blood big woods hunting to find his site.
