  1. Another gimmick. Whitetail hunters are always looking for an edge which is why companies continue to sell these type items every year. The fact that stuff like this actually sells is pretty amazing.
  2. Just out of curiosity, why do you want an outfitter?
  3. So what I get from the article is that all the northeast states suck for deer hunting. The guy must be from the south.
  4. The whitetail shows generally suck and are one big commercial. All the shows that are well done seem to be western based, which makes for better TV than sitting in treestands. The ones I make a point to DVR and watch are MeatEater, Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg (previously On Your Own Adventures), Western Hunter, and Solo Hunters (Remi Warren is a bad ass). I hear Shockey's new show is pretty good but I have't seen it yet. I would say I look forward to MeatEater as much as any show on TV, hunting or non-hunting.
  5. You are all wimps... real men ride bikes.
  6. What units are you concerned about? This has been the case in the northern zone for quite a while.
  7. I have the Weston #12. It works great.
  8. The right is pro hunting? Give me a break. Isn't it the right that continues to try and sell off our public lands to private interests which is the only way most hunters get to hunt in this country? What will that do to hunting in this country if there is no access? You should take an honest look at where both parties stand on issues, but you won't find that if you get all your information from one side.
  9. I've been using the Magnus Stingers and VPA Terminators the last few years but I'm going to try the Trophy Taker Shuttle T Locks this year. I never understood why anyone would want to take the chance on a mechanical when the fixed blade heads work so well.

  11. Unit 70 is an OTC unit with quite a bit of public land. I'm not sure of the details, but that seems like a lot to hunt that unit. Would you be hunting some of the private land or would they just be guiding you on public land? You can find all the stats and success rates from last year here: http://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/Hunting/BigGame/Statistics/Elk/2013ElkHarvestSurvey.pdf
  12. $5,000? Where are you getting that number? You can hunt Colorado for much cheaper then that DIY. A non-resident tag is around $600 and then you need to cover your travel. And the odds of seeing something are pretty high, the odds of actually killing something are around 10% in the OTC units. Even if you don't get one I guarantee you will have a great time.
  13. I'm glad they said a spring bear season would fit their strategy and they will be considering it in the future. I think that's the best way to increase the number of bear hunters in the state.
  14. I only use charcoal and I won't buy anything but a Weber.
  15. You didn't say what kind of money you were looking to spend but I have the Kuiu Chugach and it is really nice. I also have the Helly Hansen Impertech, which will keep you dry but it is not breathable at all. I hear the new First Lite stuff is pretty good too. All the outdoor companies (OR, Marmot, etc.) make good stuff too.
  16. If he said that I wouldn't have a problem with it. You need to recognize it exists if you want to stand up to it.
  17. I don't believe I said it did, and they shouldn't be allowed too.
  18. Good quote. I've read quite a bit about Thomas Paine and I don't remember him saying he didn't recognize the US government existence. Maybe Timothy McVeigh is more the anti government type patriot you were talking about?
  19. So shouldn't his flag only have 13 stars? It is tough to say you recognize the US but not the US government. Its part of our constitution. You can say you don't agree with them on pretty much everything, because I'm in that boat too, but to say you don't recognize they exist is another ridiculous statement from this boob. And then to see him riding around with that huge US flag likes he's some sort of patriot did make me laugh. Did you watch that Jon Stewart clip? It's very entertaining. Here are few other parts of the clip I though were funny. Feel free to put me down in some way because of it. "Harry Potter and the Intricacies of Land Use" "Welfare rancher pulling of the worlds largest dine and dash" "Most goods are cheaper when you steal the raw materials to make them" "Sean Hannity has now made Glenn Beck the voice of reason"
  20. I like on the Jon Stewart video where he says he doesn't recognize the federal government as existing and then is riding his horse with a big US flag. This guy is pure gold.
  21. I like how he complains about others being on government subsidies when he is too clueless to realize we are all subsidizing him. This guy is a buffoon. And Fox News was parroting his claims about ancestral rights dating back to the 1800s when his family didn't even move to Nevada until 1948 and didn't start grazing cattle until 1954. I'm enjoying the different opinions on this thread though. I chuckle every time I read through it.
  22. Actually it's federal land. Look it up using any credible source. Here is a pretty good summary of the issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=W1SUt7Y7FSA
