  1. Heck I'm waiting for a picture of my own buck.
  2. This was posted on the harvest thread but since thats not the right forum for discussion I decided to start this to see peoples responses. The shooter said it was walking towards him and he aimed at the front of the chest and it jumped the bow string. When questioned about the high risk shot he said something along the lines of "FU you never missed a shot, I didn't pay $100 for a license to watch them walking by me" Opinions?
  3. Cameras are fun gives you something to do. It is fun to have pictures of a buck growing during the summer to put next to the one of you sitting with him in the back of a truck
  4. I don't care but the one other poster I have to go back and see who was saying like how in expensive is and giving number so was just debating that. I could careless how any ones spending time.. I'm currently wasting my paying bills and watching little einsteins and drink cold coffee
  5. Paula, you need a trail cam to pic of all those btn bucks before the lose their spots? Sorry I couldnt resist. At least I know you have a sense of humor. I wish I could say I didn't spend much but between my PA and NY license I spent over $300. Equipment I'm squared away but I'm burning 20 vacation days freezing my toes off sitting in the woods. I did my a new hunting knife this season and its perfect. I highly recommend this knife.
  6. I don't know obama was a navy seal? unfornately thats out in time but the truth about the embassy attacks is only slowly leaking out now.
  7. A few of you are playing the numbers game lets look at some numbers 5 deer tags so harvesting 5 deer we will say a min of 6 hours per deer hunting if you are extreamely lucky thats 30 hours. Now to save $$ you process yourself. I know it takes me longer but remember just roast and steaks no burger because that cost money. so 4 hours a deer x5 2o more hours for a total of 50 hours. Whats 50 hours or your life worth? because I know I can do overtime and buy more deer meat than all of us would eat in a year. Hell thats a full week even working at McDonalds you would make $600. You don't do it for "meat" you do it because you like hunting and meat is an added benefit. DOC you are correct. I didn't label any one a "meat" hunter or a "trophy" hunter those are labels they gave themselves. My point was that we can argue all we want for a difference in what hunting style we choose, stand/ground blind, bow/gun, meat/horn but we all out there doing the same thing. Lets just not lie about why we choose our methods we aren't politicians. I have enough of that smoke being blown up my a$$ by these politcal adds on TV!
  8. WNY Buckhunter, Here's an atta boy to you for cleaning up the site!
  9. Lets all be honest with ourselves for a minute. People might get on here and claim that they are "meat" hunters and others claim they are "trophy" hunters but we are all far from as noble as we claim to be. This is 2012 we don't hunt to sustain ourselves we do it for fun. By the time you pay for a license and equipment and time in the woods that deer meat becomes very expensive. Its true that you can't buy vension here but people give deer away like crazy. Go to any apple farm and the farmer will be happy to give a deer that the workers kill. Its like antler restirctions. I love them but its nothing to do with the health of the herd, I just want more big antlered deer. You have seen my posts on the harvest thread I shot two older does but it required time and a few passed shots. I've passed on some small bucks too but if I happen to shoot one its just because I'm tired of hunting. I'm humble enough to admit the truth why don't the rest of you do the same and these arguments might not be so heated. If you shot a young deer be honest and say I got excited to see something so I shot it or say I wasn't seeing anything else I figured its better than nothing. Don't lie and say I'm a "meat" hunter just like I wont sit here and claim that I only shoot old deer because I care about genetics etc.... We all have our reasons to do what we do and no one is wrong as they are being legal and ethical its just a matter of how passionate you are. Not everyone thinks hunting as anything more than a couple of cold days a year were as others live and breathe it year round. Both are fine I could go forever and tell you my whole hunting history if you wanted but I got to drop my son off and get some small game in before I'm a tree tonight. To all you "meat" and "trophy" hunters good luck, safe hunting, and god bless!!!
  10. Tonight I had 4 does and a btn buck come by my stand. Its amazing how perception of a deer changes when there are other deer around. 3 young ones looked so small next to the big old does and they even had lighter hide. That would be a lot harder to judge this if they didn't walk by all togther. No matter how how I was staring I couldn't make any of them grow antlers
  11. i shared this in the harvest thread but going to piggy back on this one as well. This was my first fox with a bow. Last night she was about 20 yards away broadside and turn right at me when I pulled back my bow. hit in the front of his chest through the heart and sliced out the size of her leaving a hole that size of a soft ball. She flipped about 3 feet in the air and landed dead
  12. wow this is so far away from where it started. Same old arguements that run in circles, Anter restrictions, btn bucks, compound or recurve, etc... etc.... I'm heading back into the woods where I don't have to listen to any hunters
  13. Any one who reads this just to let you know the this is an extreamely reliable seller. Very satisfied. Thank you once again!
  14. Joe that was my original thought but the grim reaper made a hole thru that little thing the size of baseball. I'm just pelting it out instead
  15. Because you don't know they guy. Yes its his tags and he could fill them however he wants but he is a piss poor hunter. I associate shooting small deer with him but it kind of gives me a skewed view of some hunters mentality. He doesn't practice, he wounds deer every year, he nevers spends adequate time tracking, he shoots what ever he sees, the only thing that hes ever gotten that are nice where dumb luck or on a guided hunt. he even missed a moose from a rest at 100 yards. He has never developed as a hunter in any form, he lacks all discipline and has no patience, takes unethical shots etc... Now I'm saying that everyone that shoots a button buck is the same as I know another old timer that is happy just to shoot a deer a year because of the restrictions his age has put on him. Everyones situation is different and someone like you that has well managed property in the WNY is going to hold out for a bigger one then I will hunting state game land just above NYC but I'm still going to pass on fawns, btn bucks, spikes, and little bucks because I want the oppurtunity to do better and with a few years of exp I some times eat a little tag soup but theres some meat in the freezer. Now do I think that I'm a better hunter than anyone else? No! Do I think someone thats dedicating time and energy all year round and practicing, scouting, passes a few young deer is a better hunter than someone that grabs their gun wipes the dust off and shoots the first thing they see, Yes. Just my opinion may differ than yours but we are entitled to have'em. My question to you is hypothecial but you and I have the same exact property, the same experience, the same equipment, same opportunity etc... and every year you hold out and get a nice fat doe and a decent buck but I shoot the first thing I see, who do you prefer to be?
  16. This came in to my doe estrus bleat 3x's. The 3rd time was its last time!
  17. WNY, I understand what you are saying and I agree with you peoples definition of tropies are different especially depending where you are hunting but TreeGuy before he got frustrated with others comments was trying to make the point that he rather see a button buck killed the following year with horns. I understand that a young deer might be a trophy to some but I rather that a young doe catch a bullet if one of them has to survive. Now I have seen an a$$hole hunter telling a young kid they would have passed on a young ones first buck and totally deflate them which is horrible and someone with his head not tucked up his a$$ quickly told the kid it was a trophy and the other guy was jealous. But I also know a guy that has hunted 40-50 years and shoots the first deer he sees every year even though he has incredible property with a ton of deer on it. He also shoots the first doe antlerless he sees. Its not like hes a "Meat" hunter either because he never keeps them. Hes also retired so its not like theres any rush he just admittedly said he likes shooting stuff and could careless about hunting. Those 2 stories just food for thought from 2 sides of the coin
  18. I'm assuming you had a "late" halloween
  19. Thanks for asking, I had a little damage to the siding and it ripped the service from the meter but all in all compared to what happened to others I can't complain. Where in Central PA, I use to live in Bloosmburg
  20. TreeGuy, I agree with you. I think the more you hunt the more you try to target older larger animals and not because you feel elite but you enjoy the challenge as you learn more about the sport.
  21. WNY Bow Hunter, You mistakenly shot a horse or you might be a little behind it in the picture maybe put that bow of yours up in front of the deer so we can a little more accurate perspective on size. COngratulations on the big old doe.
  22. The way it looks it came straight into the eye leads me to believe the deer was looking at the shooter be it broadside or straight on. I've heard tale of many hunters accidently hitting deer in the head or missing all together near the head because they are focusing on the antlers not the shot and pull the arrow that way.
  23. Wife just called me at work and said pine tree just smacked my house. She packed up the kid and dog and is safe at friends house
