  1. Good job!!! How high was your stand? Because the entrance wound looks good but where it came out seems like you had a steep angle.
  2. Every year I bring my antlers on the train with me to show people at work. A few years ago I gave a doe to guy at work and we took it out of the back of my truck and tied it up on the back of his car right on 43rd and 8th ave. Some curious onlookers a few people asking if it was legal but no problems. If you have a deer head as hunter you're savage but if there is one hanging on the wall of your avant garde cafe its cool! go figure
  3. Hey just because you have shot a few bucks doesn't mean buck fever goes away. Hell my dads almost 70 and he thought he was having a heart attack after shooting his buck last year!
  4. Don't waste the money on buck bomb. I used it 2 years ago spending like$5 a can. The best reaction I had was a nice 6 point sniff and then piss on it and keep it moving. 98% of the deer I saw completely ignored it and tried it both ways giving little sprays and letting an entire can rip. I think calls work a lot better in the rut then lures
  5. My doe had no fat on her but its still pretty early in the season and its been warm
  6. Congrats brother!!!! I hate the misconception that people get from TV watching programs like the bucks of tecomate where giant deer after giant deer walk by until this absolute monster steps out. As a beginner and deer hunting with a bow anything is a trophy maybe after a few deer you start passing on those little spikes for something a little nicer. Thats just maturing as a hunter but if you are waiting for a south texas deer to step out, you are going to be disappointed unless your hunting fenced in deer like they do.
  7. Nice, Welcome!! I lived in LI for years then moved upstate.
  8. Hope it doesn't get infected and he makes a healthy recovery
  9. I don't believe they associate the smell of smoke with humans thus not scaring them but certainly not attracting them. I wouldn't screw around with though because like others have stated the movement and not to mention the biggest reason, Its bad for your health!
  10. Let me know I'm in Manhattan everyday except thursday and friday so I would be happy dropping them off in the bronx for you on my commute in
  11. WOW, Whitetail freak and Geno have a little bad blood? Its sounds like you just knicked him and hes fine but it never hurts to do a little more walking because you never know
  12. I've have a recurve but I recently had multiply shoulder surgeries and I just can't pull it back to practice. I can barely pull back my compound that I have cranked way down. Hopefully after a lot of rehab I'll be able to in the future
  13. Get your cameras up, Maybe you can catch a pic of him walking healthy in a few and kill all doubt
  14. I would eventually like to switch to a recurve and hunt instinctive but with my shoulders I can't pull the weight required to kill and I couldn't pull it back enough to practice as much as it would take
  15. So I saw on a thread a hunter recently lost his life in a tree stand fall while properly wearing a harness. A tip I would throw in is to make sure you test ALL of your equipmenr prior ro going into the woods and be familiar with its use.
  16. Grow I'm looking at your pic and I notice your bow doesn't have a sight, do you remove it and carry seperately or you a instinctive shooter?
  17. Going cheap isn't that big of a deal with fixed blade in my opinion but don't ever get cheap expandables. Thats a complete nightmare!!! My dad bought me a 3 pack that looked like the grim reapers I use because it was only $3. The first shot perfect!! I pulled out and shot the second one and one of the blades open and missed my target hit a rock shattered and wrecked my arrow. So I tried the first one again and this time it open as well glanced of my target into my backstop and the head shattered. I threw the 3rd one out.
  18. Congrats, I used a doe bleat can to take the buck in my profile pic. The best call I've ever used. Bucks don't come in jumpy like when you rattle and grunt them in. Glad to see you had success to lift you up after your misfortune. Thats hunting brother!
  19. Exactly, but they are covered by the good samaritan act if they are doing the right thing and they could be sued if they don't do anything. Double edged sword damned if you damned if you don't. My rule of thumb is if its someones safety get invovled, property only keep it moving!
  20. I do the same with my harness so even if my stand gave way I wouldn't fall anywhere. I think something thats very important is that we stay in shape so if we find ourselves in a sticky situation we are better equiped to work our way out. Being outdoors and hunting is always increasing the level of danger that we are in. Preparation is your best defense. God Bless his family in their time of need
  21. Taste it, that'll tell yea!!!!
  22. I'm intrested but I am no where near you so I guess two questions, Do you have paypal? and how much for shipping?
  23. Fair enough, besides you keep it in good shape in a few years your could still turn a buck or 2 on it
  24. Maybe someday when I have a little more money I will have one mounted but this time straight to a plate. I did save the tail feathers for the heck of it and I saved the wings to hang as a decoy for coyote hunting. If anyone ever wants the feathers for fly fishing let me know I would be happy to mail them to you in exchange for one of the flys you make from it
