  1. dont feel bad i finally had a shot on a large doe yesterday and missed not once...... but twice. no i was not rushed and the doe was standing still at about 40 yards and i still missed. it took me all of 5 seconds to realize that it was not the guns fault but mine. in hindsite......... i will still be out today along with next weekend to try and correct the situation that i am in(un filled tags). best of luck to ya.
  2. im glad that Deer season is such a long season so that in 4 more weeks or so..... we can all go back too asking what we all think about this type of hunting,gun,gutting,ect...ect...ect.... dont know about the rest of You Hunter's but i plan on doing my best just to get out in the wood's Away from my puter to do some hunting........ just saying lol.
  3. Very nice buck and congrats to your uncle. Well Done.
  4. yeah just like those days (as a kid) when gramps would gather the men around the "meat pole"
  5. i am not trying to preach here but first and formost...... from field to cooler. 1. proper field dressing(unlike my nextdoor neighbor.......... long story) 2.as soon as possible skinned ,cleaned(water, salt, and washed down) backstraps into one (uncented) garbage bag, each hind 1/4 into a bag of their own, front 1/4's and neck into another. 3. if you CANNOT do the butchering yourself...... take the said above meat to local butcher and have them do it. 4. i do lot live down in the BIG city or even close to it but........ my first apartment was a 3rd floor upper studio that the bathroom door most thought was a closet?????????? long story short..i may have shot it there... but with a bit more time and effort..... best of luck to all of you that are looking for a place to take care of your hard work.
  6. real nice looking buck and better yet one of those moments that will be remembered by both you and your son forever. congrats to you and your son and hopefully many more to share. as just a question? what the heck happened to the deer in the forgrounds left ribcage area? ive seen alot of entry/exit wounds but nothing quite like that? at any rate once again congrats to you and your son.
  7. very nice buck and congrats and a well done hunt for your bud.
  8. that is a whole lotta steak on a rope..... congrats to you and the rest of the hunting party.
  9. i did not even go out today not to keen on the idea of having a tree limb fall on my haead as im trying to take a nap lol.
  10. 7j i heard 3 or 4 single shots at about 6:35 to about 7:00. saw several groups of doe and younguns at full run between 7:30 and about 8:10. about 8:30 it sounded like a war zone for a few minuts and then shots were far and few between till we left at about 12:30 or so. i was not able to contribute to the noise but my buddy shot a small doe at about 10:30. the area i hunt over the years hunter numbers have stayed about the same but i think most of the hunters are now able to sit and be quiet(no getting boared and getting happy feet) so most deer other then those few that i saw have no need to be moving( pushed). as for rifle.... only heared but 1 all morning but i did hear several vollys to the point that i thought somebody had a belt fed shotgun. hopefully next weekend will be better(for me) but on the whole not to much of a differance between hunting(opening day) this year from the past few. jmho
  11. if im not mistaken you can fill out licence information on other forms and paper so that the meat can be identified. i think you might get a better idea of how this is done by looking in the reg section for transportation of carcass.
  12. sitting back @ about 6 20 or so. i dont use scents but i do like to get in and set up long beforehand just to let the woods get quiet again.
  13. great vid most would have been letting a arrow or two fly. thanks for sharing.
  14. words cant even describe........... not cool.
  15. when i was a teenager i shot at a turkey during the fall season while it was up in a tree. i aimed at the head/neck area just like you would if the turkey was on the ground. when you are picking wood chips out of the bird that you are planning on eating................ only took me but one time to figure out why they say......... if ya want to shoot it while its sitting on that branch go right ahead........ NOPE ill pass and wait till it is on the ground.
  16. congrats to both dad and son a day out with my kids is far more enjoyable then a day with them in front of a tv and myself doing something else.
  17. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm just to be sure when you say Amish are they Amish or Mennonite? and just so i have the clear picture....... is this group of people that may or not be the reason behind you not seeing deer........ the last time i checked and i am often wrong are they shooting those deer while in possesion of a nussiance (sry spelling) permit? i have permission to hunt monday thru sat on a farm over in fayette (i know not area in question) that is owned by a mennonite farmer. i can shoot what ever deer i want as long as i have the tags to do so. this farmer will take deer during the course of the year but all are tagged and logged. like i said i do not know everything but i am just trying to figure out the whole 2+2 still aint seeing the type of deer that i want to shoot thing. best of luck to ya and im sure that sooner or later you will cross paths with a deer that meets your needs. until then enjoy your time in the field.
  18. nicely done congrats to you.
  19. lol this is probably true. unfortunatly the above mentioned are the only two friends that i know who hunt larger tracs of hard woods but yes you are probably right. big difference between walking five miles and finding a road as compared to walking 5 and knowing that sooner or later you might find Canada lol.
  20. i agree with geno on this one. while out turkey hunting i have seen plenty of deer working fields and creekbottems but my buddies who hunt further north (water town and govenour) tell me that they are only getting quick looks and that is about it. i guess that is why they call it hunting. im sure in about 2 weeks you will see much more deer movement.
  21. lol those are just well groomed show pigs and are usally spotted at the state fair.
  22. 2 co workers who live and hunt in bordino(south of skanatlas) have seen and shot wild hogs. another person who is a relative has seen hogs out in a few fields down in summer hill area. yep they are out there and yes they are making their way up into the lower south eastern parts of cayuga county.
