  1. I seen this doe at my wild pear tree every time I walked by this tree to go to my stand so I thought I would see how often she was there and the pictures show her there all day returning to the tree within an hr of me walking by and it also seems she is fighting off other doe that try to seal her pears.. I have a few toringo crabs loaded not 50' from this tree they are small pea sized crabs that stay on the tree till late winter the deer don't seem to touch them.
  2. hey Phade i found the pix of your 6.5 year old deer .. now i really believe you. i bet its probably closer to 7.5
  3. is any one thinking what I'm thinking? Humm. hope it was part of the river that's south of Dewey hill... but from the discription of river and being that I know this area well it sure sounds like the northen area.. awesome buck either way
  4. check this out . https://youtu.be/-avpx8UTakI really shows you the shady side of business
  5. I have not killed a doe in Oct for over 10yr. fortunately I can cherry pick them at my convenients in the late season. it's going to be near 80 tomorrow so if you shot a doe today get to work. I enjoy the meat to much and do all my own prossing so the only acception I would make is for a mature buck then I would take time off work just to process. plus my arrows cost $30 I really can't afford to break them on doe. if I was in the doe only area I would Stay out of the woods and HOPE my neighbors just shoot doe(that would never happen btw) but it would push the pressured bucks to my area.

  7. they should call it Doe (only if you get caught areas) from what I hear there won't be many bucks left for honest guys.
  8. i would contact Phade though PM he has some excellent " unmanaged ground" he is a nice guy and hes right in your area. im sure he could spare a stand for you. hes an establish member with plenty of knowledge http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/29462-which-part-of-ny-produces-the-biggest-deer/page-4
  9. Look obviously nutrition Is going to have an impact on overall growth and defiantly takes both to make a B&C. what I’m trying to say is if you don’t have Wayne Co soil down in in Ulstler Co and you want a nice buck then it might be a good idea to protect the young ones from getting shot so they have a chance to make it to the maximum growth for that area even if that means a 125” 5.5 year old And if you have Wayne co soil that grows 160” that’s great too.. I understand that great soil and habitat makes great deer but they still need age even if it’s only 3 years. But to say age has little to do with it I think is wrong, deer don’t drop out of the womb land on great soil and sporting 160” of antler the same year. sorry I got of track a bit, what came first the chicken or the egg -? :\ yes if you want B&C find the best soil with the oldest deer . my vote would be Wayne ,Monroe and Genesee., Good luck
  10. sure LI, Buffalo,Monroe co, all have huge deer - urban deer have a safe place to hide to get old the , tall fescue , and Kentucky blue grass has little to do with it . the AR wont work over night but it has worked in PA over time .. the one positive of ARs is that it makes people think and judge a deer before they sling lead. rather than just mowing down anything that pops out. could make for safer hunting ... and possibly some older deer
  11. FYI “ tooth wear showed that amazing buck to most likely have been only 4 1/2 year old ”. It’s really amazing that you could argue that AGE is not the number one factor in NY... The fact is you would have never heard of the milo Hansen buck if it was shot as an 140” 1.5 years old.. right ?? and using a world record buck to argue and telling people they are misinformed by opposing your opinion really shows your ignorance /arrogance. So let’s break this down to a simple test - you chose the best county to harvest the biggest buck co: A or co: B County A: description County A is on some of the richest “Glacial deposits” in the nation (land of the lost). abundant in the most vigorous, lush ,nutrient rich vegetation anywhere .. this area also has the highest hunter density in the country with over 40 hunters PSM. with no harvest management almost all bucks harvested fall into the .5 - 1.5 year range with very impressive scores ranging from 80-130”. but by being harvested so young the deer never reach their full genetic potential but still very impressive racks. County B: description county B is located in moderately rich soil (all of WNY) with plenty of available forages ,ag fields , Nut trees , fruit trees .. this area has a low hunter density with QDM objectives to protect young bucks, young bucks in the area 1.5 2.5 typically average 40”-110” range. by letting bucks reach maturity hunters harvest deer that reach their full genetic potential hunters constantly take deer in the upper age class 3.5-6.5 with impressive racks in the 130”-170” range. What I’m am trying to say is DEAD dear don’t grow !! But I’m sure you can still argue that.
  12. Any coincident that Steuben Co is home of http://charliealsheimer.com/ca/ who is a advocate of QDMA and has been for over 20 years I read recently that he has QDMA cooperation from 100s of landowners/farmes in that area and that it is a true QDMA success story! I also think WNY BH might be a real estate agent because the price of land with deer like that goes for about 6K an acre in IOWA At this point is anyone not convinced that NY could be the next big buck state if we protect young Bucks.
  13. not sure hard to tell without breaking one.
  14. any one have an idea what this is? it's growing wild in my woods.they look like oarnge tomatoes growing on the stem.
  15. well to be fair like most NY hunters he has "hunting in his DNA" not common senses! what makes you think its the same deer? because they both have horns ?!?!
  16. Ohhh yes, the Meat hunter otherwise known as the people that measure success by tags filled just ask them “I got 4 deer this year” they love to trough numbers out there that make them fell like achieved hunters when asked, so what if it was 3 button bucks and a 4pt. got 4 deer dude what did you get? if you are whiteness to their hunting you learn quick that they have every excuse in the book of why they shot a 60lb deer IM JUST A MEAT HUNTER I don’t care about horns ,, that’s my favorite one! I have seen these proud meat hunters even shoot deer in the Hams they get their meet any way they have to! I have also watched the tag fillers butcher jobs. cutting up deers is a lot of work so after about the second kill let’s just get the back straps and the steak I need to hurry up and get back out and kill more… These are also the same people that don’t see mature deer “my hunting area sucks I never see a nice one” I wish I had your spot so I could kill nice ones This may not apply to all and I’m not directing it to anyone just sharing my view because I use to be a MEAT hunter. . I just figure out how to get more meat out of less deer LET THEM GROW!!!! http://charliealsheimer.com/ca/articles/art_frombuttons.html
  17. In my experience if the deer has time to turn around and face you head on after you shoot at him then you should not be shooting a deer at 30y if the equipment you hunt is not capable, it would be considered unethical to take the shot no matter how the deer was standing .. Just curious did your brother learn from it? or does he wait until the deer is walking away to compensate for the 180 spin
  18. I have seen this happen with vehicles doing 30mph, but I find it pretty hard to believe a deer can do a 180 after you shoot but what do I know I wasn’t there
  19. Sorry if I offended you Mr. Whacker I’m new at this and I was out of line (no need to reply) Here is my harvest he is a deer I have chased for 2 years in a high pressure hunting area, he somehow he manage to live in brown is down town, I ate my buck tag last year and passed some real nice 2.5s I worked twice as hard this to harvest this buck and it paid off on OCT 8th I caught him going to the water hole he frequently visited all summer.
