  1. I love the smell of manure in the morning ! It’s that time of year they’re injecting the fields that surround my woods ,this is an equipment and labor intensive operation . The fields within a mile or so from the lagoon they lay hoses that connect to the equipment, with relay pumps the size of cars staged in route . Farther away they use these tankers ( stock photos ) . I got to feel it blocks movement across the fields , which one could take as good or bad, as it may lock the deer in the woods to staying in the woods . Idk Ive got one stand farthest away from the operation I plan on sitting in for the first time tonight .
  2. Not the same though , I have targets in my yard and I know the distance from every weed on that bright , Level ground , with zero branches in the way . I stump shoot on the way out in the morning , all at ranges I have to guess at ,in an actual woods , uphill ,down , between branches and so on . ruined an arrow yesterday, lose a few too each year . Train like you fight and all that
  3. Buck tag and plenty of bucks just not the right one !
  4. We’ll that’s all folks , one unknown at 9:30 so I gave it another hour .
  5. Edit : as I look at photo and the trees he’s by I’d put him at 40 yards , still a bit more then I’d shoot
  6. Tree rats , turkeys and one yote . They were working in the field way to the north when I walked in at 6 :30 AM. But every once in awhile some loud clanking thing drives along the west edge behind me , then comes back a few minutes later. Drew back 4x to keep shoulder loose, it’s a struggle even on this warm day . common Xbow !
  7. 46 and fog city . No idea of the wind here but sticking my arm out the window , seems very slight st best .
  8. I often hunt alone, the phone is a safety device first . The other morning I got 300 yards down the lane way when I noticed I left the phone in the truck ,I don’t leave extra time in my walk in either , but back I went .
  9. Read it and the entire book yearly . The problem seems to be the masses don’t , and the tracking calls come in , en masse .
  10. If one looks at the guys here who use one, they’re by and large accomplished hunters , probably good shots , with an understanding of anatomy, bullet selection, when to take a shot and when not to . But the masses seem to pick it because “ it’s light and doesn’t kick much” , good for their wives , kids and democratic friends , but don’t factor in all the other factors ,and hence the issues .
  11. I’ve no dog in this fight but found this interesting , this is the is the guy who started leashed tracking dogs, in NYS. At the time he wrote this book, he had tracked nearly 1000 wounded deer .
  12. Dry leaves and no wind made paths to five stands and one additional path to lead them passed a stand , a fast job . Found 3 frogs a few old shotgun shells , part of a grunt call and a lens from someone’s glasses !
  13. Whole lotta nothing going on . Corn in the immediate area was cut , beans all gone and green fields covered in manure . Movement fizzled , maybe one will come back to visit. Squirrels still like it here edit :and now one is walking in the woods ….
  14. My daughter put two mags of 7mm08 in the center of the target today , hasn’t shot it since this time last year either . She’s not a “ big” girl , I was pretty happy . As far as factory ammo , my basement is well stocked . I’ll buy more after the season and demand drops too .
  15. I understand the sentiment, but how far away were they ? Where I hunt , guys shoot somewhere around me almost everyday after work , and goose hunters are blasting away the next field over on most weekends . My daughter, sil and myself sent a couple hundred rounds down range today , I’ll be on stand in the AM .
  16. Anyone want to store piles of apples on my bean field PM me !
  17. Heading down to shoot our guns in a bit , neighbor said “ look around where we park for my release.” Lol
  18. Still doesn’t explain why the house is not hardened . And protection moves with Nancy ,no city cops 24/7 either . From what I’ve seen the attacker is a pro weed, nudist ,blm guy . A right winger would own guns…. I go with the gay lover fight ! Story simply doesn’t pass smell test . Wife gone ,male attacker in underwear,no force until cops on scene, domestic all the way , text book .
  19. I’m always amazed ,when someone of means and high profile has a house so unprotected a rando can simply get in with ease . I live in a starter home , my doors and jams are reinforced ( products are easy to find and install ) ,couple cameras , alarm , good storm doors with deadbolts as well, yard lit up . My close neighbors , same ,although they have more cameras, and two large dogs each, of course everyone has guns close by .
  20. When you climb down and see a rub on the sapling you hook your haul line on …
  21. See deer on my way here, 4 in a field on my walk in , and have seen bucks on my last few Morning sits and zero seen at all so far . And now they’re spreading manure next to the woods ….
  22. Finishing coffee in the truck listening to Led Zep . 32 , little wind at all . Seen a few in yards and one big one just hit at the end of the Bay bridge on the way here . I was on the way here , I don’t know where he was headed .
  23. Love ‘em ,all I use now ladders with big mesh seats . I bought replacement seats just to have ,but never needed them yet, I also use a cushion . This one had two nice bucks shot out of a couple years back .
