I have apartments houses and getting one apt ready to rent,, the warm , nice weekend sure helped in me not wanting to be out there.. -
A few years ago I was sitting on the couch on a Sunday my brother-in-law said why aren't you hunting I thought to myself I'm not sure so I went to one of my favorite spots not a half an hour into the hunt I had a doe come out of the swamp followed by a buck, that day I happened to bring my decoy with me and stuck it in front of my stand which was exactly 28 yards once I saw the doe I started to grunted a few times the doe came across the clearing and got all freaked out by the decoy she came straight at it stomped her foot ran over at a 45° angle and then busted off into the swamp and I thought oh great I just blew it, the buck watch the whole thing unfold, meantime he walked over to a cedar tree a 100 yards across the field and started rubbing a cedar tree, he was moving this 14 ' foot cedar tree back-and-forth Rubbing it when he was done he made his way across the clearing to the decoy approaching from the left side he turned came hit the decoy with his horns and sent it flying about 15 feet in the air with no effort at all making it fly apart, as he turned around to make another pass at the decoh my only other shot that I had I smoked him ,he ran fullbore and smashed into the tree that I was sitting in, the whole tree swayed and I thought holy crap he was on the ground 5 feet from my tree and all the sudden he picked his head up and I knocked another arrow and stuck it in him which wasn't needed but felt necessary at the time, thinking to myself, oh my god did this really just happened. This is his rack on the top a scaper for sure my most memorable hunt wish I had filmed it ..

I decided to hunt a ladder stand which I hadn't been to since last year its been in this maple tree for the better part of ten years and is a good early bow spot.. I walk in the trail and get about half way to the stand and my headlamp catches two pair of eyes watching me off to the right through the trees they don't bust out but watch me walk past and I climb into the stand,, the stand which has shoots of new maple branches 4' long growing around the stand from cut limbs from the previous year,, I spend the better part of ten minutes breaking branches and getting things in somewhat of order so I can hunt it, I settle in and wait till sunrise and let out three light grunts,, ten minutes go by and a three point and croch horn follow the trail I walked in on and make there way across the clearing they end up 15' from my stand,, I wasn't interested in shooting either of them but it was a really neat morning,, they must of thought I was a buck thrashing a tree is all I can figure ... -
America the great and in two years the same people will be screaming about doing something with the booming deer population.... Makes about as much sense as the safe act ..
-
Sounds like it hit the front shoulder on the other side and has a high entrance, which would mean little blood, hopefully you caught a lung and he will start bleeding out his nose and you will get a blood trail, usually stay on the trail or easiet path once he slows down,, sounds like you will find him piled up in the area..

Very nice morning .. -
And of course everything on Facebook is always true .. Could be a photoshop pic as well.. I just wanted to add, I don't know why some people think crossbows are some magical weapon of destruction,,, most people are not Daryl on "The walking Dead " it still takes hunting skills to get close enough to a deer to make a shot and the same skills for recovery of the animal.. I just view it as a different tool that Im allowed to use, I have spots that I cant hunt with a bow and can set up with a crossbow ( on the ground in close quaters for example ) because I have this magical tool in my hand I almost always still go home empty handed.. Maybe its just where I hunt and live but if everyone around me used one it wouldnt affect my hunting one bit .. Maybe Im missing something..
-
A couple of other points crossbows are very front heavy and difficult to shoot offhand,, also they can be very difficult to move around a tree stand with horizontal limbs, also I have put more than one arrow in a deer over my career try that with a crossbow or a recover from a miss with a crossbow is next to impossible..

If you follow legal shooting times lighted pins really become obsolete..
