Anybody try that clear reflective paint from buck bomb? I haven't seen it in stores anyway, but wonder if the odor from the paint would be an issue?

I've had really good luck with Preventic collars from the vet for dogs. They last around 3 months and can be had online for less than $20. Only negative is they only repel ticks, not fleas.

Where are you and/or the Ithaca located? -
+1 for S&S. They've treated me right in the pro shop and with taxidermy work. I think most of their staff shoots Elite but they have all the other brands too and will work with you to match you with the best combo. Knowledgeable staff, fair prices, and good service.

Not sure if anything is done for store bought antler chews. That said, I gave my cocker spaniel pup a shed a while back and she wouldn't touch it at first. Someone suggested I boil it in chicken broth. I did and she started chewing it immediately. Shed has lasted several months now and pup's teeth look great.

Let's not forget about the new license fee structure next season. The reductions are most beneficial to non-residents and encourages them to come to NY to hunt. If a hunter from out of state pays lodging/travel/food/license fees to hunt in NY that's a good thing for the state and for local businesses. However, non-resident hunters typically have fewer days to hunt than residents and may not be as selective in the bucks they shoot. I may be over thinking it, but do the reduced license fees increase the need for expansion of antler restrictions?

+1. I'm definitely a believer in rage broadheads too. I rushed a shot on a small six point a few weeks ago. Entered mid-neck and exited above opposite shoulder. Rage extreme severed trachea and jugular and the wounds and subsequent blood trail were amazing. I'm severely color blind but had no issue following the trail and recovered the deer.

Got more details on that case at Costco. It's a Pelican model 1750 and the in store price is $189.99.

Just saw a nice Pelican case at Costco for around $200.

I've been using the buck omni hunter folder with the gut hook. It's a nice knife and holds an edge well. Also have the kershaw Alaskan blade trader set. Wouldn't buy it again. It has one handle plus a skinning blade, large gut hook blade, and saw blade. Changing blades in the field is a pain. Several years ago I cut myself pretty bad when trying to put on the saw blade to trim a branch in the tree. I'll never try that again. Has anyone tried Cutco hunting knives? I have their kitchen knives and love them but haven't given the hunting or fishing products a try. They are still made in Olean, NY which is nice. They make a folding hunting knife with a gut hook that looks interesting. Not sure if I'd want the straight edge or serrated.

I've always reused them if they seem structurally sound. The guys that own the lease we go to in Texas don't. They keep each arrow in the antlers of the deer that it killed. It looks pretty cool. They do mostly euro mounts and the main room of the camp house has at least 30 euros with the arrows resting in the horns.

I have a 9G to swap for a 9M or 9K

I've used the $40 plano cases for a few years now but will probably step up to an SKB the next time I fly. The plano case was fine when I was allowed to throw some clothes in with my bow for extra padding. However, on two separate trips the gate agent would only allow the bow, arrows, quiver and release in the case - no clothes. Both times I had the cable guides break in transit. Could just be coincidental as the stock cable guides on my Diamond bow were cheap plastic junk. Haven't had any issues since installing aftermarket cable guide. Plano case is nice because it counts as regular baggage. I take a copy of the case dimensions from their website and never have to pay extra.

I've always had good luck with S & S in Springville. Great service and reasonable prices. Indoor 3D range is nice too.

Most of the time I use a climber in hardwood areas. I prefer at least 25 feet up. That said, I always use a HSS full body harness and just started using a lifeline last year. Not only are you always connected, but it's also easier to judge height. The lifeline is 30 feet long so I know when I get close to running out of rope that I'm high enough.

If you do consider Cumberland you may want to make reservations for the ferry and camping ahead of time: http://www.nps.gov/cuis/reservations.htm

If you're looking to camp you should check out Cumberland Island, GA. It's only a few miles off 95 just before the FL line. You'll have to take a 30 minute ferry ride but it's pretty nice. Wild horses all over the island, tons of trails, historical ruins, nice beaches, great fishing.

I have a set of henckels and a set of Cutco. Both are nice but the Cutco forever guarantee and sharpening service are worth the extra $$. Plus they are based out of Olean, NY. They make some nice hunting knives too.

I've used both lumenoks and nockturnals. I've had good performance with both and didn't notice much difference in arrow flight or groups. For me, the nockturnals are the better choice. They have a switch that you use to turn them off. As long as you have something with a sharp tip like a finish nail they are foolproof. They have always lit when I've used them. I also prefer the nockturnals because they come in blue. I'm red/green color blind and can see the blue nockturnals well.

The titan is actually 25lbs but it's wider and deeper than the viper models. I could see where it could be difficult to carry through thick stuff. Most of the areas I hunt are mature hardwoods so it's o.k. for me.

So I read this thread a few weeks ago and was a little uneasy because I have the same F&S climber. I've never had any issues from a stability perspective but did upgrade the seat to a Summit surround seat. Now I can sit all day comfortably. I finally got out to my spot in 9m last weekend and used my same F&S climber. Problem was, I couldn't get this thread out of my head. I'm pretty good about using my harness and just got that HSS Lifeline but was still nervous. Anyway, I just sprung for the summit titan. It's huge, rated to 350lbs, and the cable system is far superior to the pins used on my old climber. Haven't actually hunted from it yet but did climb a tree near the house. The new titan is rock solid stable.

I have the primetime lite and can't say enough about it. I'm 260 any it is very stable. Although I did just order the HSS life line after reading some of the posts on here. I did switch out the seat on my primetime lite to the summit surround seat. Most comfortable seat I've ever had. Compatible with most climbers.

Check out the Cutco fillet knives. I used to sell their knives in college in FL. Great products and made in Olean, NY. Lifetime warranty and free sharpening at the factory.

The vests from Hunter Safety System come with a suspension relief strap. Thankfully I've never had to use it. From what I understand you hook it to one of the lower buckles on the vest and use it as a step to right yourself. Doubles as a deer drag strap too.

I couldn't find bluestar anywhere locally. Bought the version from wildgame innovations called "After Shot." I can see blue so that stuff should work if I can find the initial trail. Hopefully those lights will help with that.
