Got the NY Outdoor news today.....one article headline was this "Hemlock-Candice sale forces removal of boats from shores" All boats need to be removed ...they will wait until July to take further action and have a phone # (607) 776 2165 to field any questions regarding the removal. in the article it states...." Storing boats or any other personal items is prohibited on al New York State Forests."

Actually billy clubs and certain base ball bats are illegal in NYS...I know for a fact because A car I bought had a red wings souvenir bat in the back seat from previous owner...our son drove the car to school and parked it locked in the student parking lot.....The campus cop was walking the lot looking in windows and before I knew it they had arrested him for carrying a weapon on to school property....We ended up in court and lawyers the whole nine yards....needless to say this guy had it out for our son and ended up bragging ...but this.... 3 months later got him fired...when I hauled in eye witnesses and signed statements to conversations detailing his "plans" for several students he disliked...my warning to take the whole thing to the news didn't help him

I got the top plot in and will work on lower this week....decided to add grain sorghum 1/8 ratio...this is not the tall kind I was going to get...most grain sorghum has at least two "short" genes in them now....where sweet or forage sorghum doesn't....new plant for me so it is going to be an experimenting year ....my clover and brassica seeds arrived ....but the weather just messed up the clover plans so re tooling for that.......This years weather has turned my plotting from a checkers game to a chess match for sure

stopped raining ...got some plowing done.

Finally got the soybeans in and added some grain sorghum to them....that is the upper plot.....limed the new area to that plot and saved a small section of it just for a heavy planting of grain sorghum....that is a new plant for me this year and ....doing a bit of "testing " with it.....heading down to lime ...pic rocks and disc the lower field right now...before the rain hits... -

Wow ...You plant turnips early....I got out and disced up the upper soybean plot and opened up a new are...then the disc broke ....but we got our welder out and he made things right as rain....caught my self working the other day... -
Funny thing...I asked a local farmer that last year..."nope the grounds too rocky around here"....really?...because I saw them growing all over the place on farms...more so than corn...and mine grew great...well I stopped to ask same farmer a ? the other day...what are you calibrating for? ...he was working on a seeder...."Soybeans"....hhhhmmm.... I have to get mine in this weekend....good luck

Dang your lucky....I can't even walk in them with out loosing a shoe!! .....Second spray down didn't work ..due to ran amounts I'm guessing and I have streams running through 3 plots...afraid to lime because it would wash away before I get in to disk.....and the temps are staying in the low to mid 40's ..with fog all day....OK enough venting...good luck out there -
Got out earliest yet to avoid any more fly aways and no deer where jumped...but dang ...quiet and a branch snapped on the ground not very far away......OK...I got the jitters...for no snort ...stomp...running away....and bears started dancing through my mind ??? ...but made it OK ...heard a muffled broken gobble and then no other turkey sounds....funny ...more gun shots than I have heard since opening...rained all morning long..didn't even see a squirrel...and very foggy

Seeing I had such a bad reaction to Deet years ago...That it could possibly kill me now....I'd love to find something non toxic....I could stand in a crowd of thousands and the only person skeeters ...blk flies and deer fly would attack would be me! > ....I luv my Thermacell but it does me little good while I'm always moving
-
Hmmm...must be the year of the ant....we are having the same problem....We enjoy having indoor plants to help with winter air quality....Dang...Mr.B. moved a large palm to open a storm window and WOW...looked like we were in a horror movie!.....frost or not ....plants were out the door....I've sprayed the out side around block wall/siding...and along the baseboards....living in the woods doesn't help they are every where but Sevin granulars put in a spreader and a covering of the lawn before a rain ....I'm hoping works for a number of things...bought it at Sams club

All I see here is making it illegal to import such weapons with certain features...not ban ownership....actually the way it is written importing the weapons with out such "add ons"...then importing the "add ons" separately would be legal....I doesn't say ...at least what I was reading..may have missed it....guns with such "add on" couldn't be sold here....once the parts are shipped in.. The above comment in no way is a personal Opinion that such bans should not be fought......It's like kicking a single rock at the top of a gravel pit....next thing you know..... the side of the pit is sliding down hill

Some P-R money spent

I'm sorry I mentioned the handicap accessibility....It was a question among others as to what constitutes forever wild and access...surely as a point of practicality the state would have to maintain some sort of access...for it would be too costly and impractical to allow access that is already established ...to go by the wayside should it be be needed in the future...for what ever reason....not allowing motorized vehicles doesn't equate to in accessible.... But still wouldn't mind a few of the other questions answered by some one that knows...please -
Congrats guys...great birds and nice pics

Congrats...hooked for life now!

So help me out with this...for I don't hit those types of areas.....The state never manages any access roads to these areas? and I thought the DEC had recently re-grouped their efforts to manage timber on these lands ...if for no other reason than generating funds...Would that not open up logging trails?.....aren't there waterways accessible from more populated areas one could traverse? Other than those with physical challenges to movement.... I'm not seeing the problem....and I would think...really in this age of disabled access requirements...the state would have to make sure some sort of access be made...isn't this just about keeping ATV's and dirt bikes... 4x4 trucks from tearing up an area? Also does this make the hunting leases void?...and if so does that not equate to ppl with out disposable incomes have a new place to hunt? -
It was a great morning...Yes Lawdwaz...when he jumped on top of the log I was glassing him at the time.......I always look for spurs ..especially when they are looking small to me......I like turkey meat and don't want to pass on a good bird due to beard rot.....with his feathers smoothed down and past experience the estimates I think were pretty accurate...what surprised me was the double beard...never seen one on a Jake before I do tend to let game get a bit close before I shoot ...must be the archery thing...this year not as close as normal but I have a miss to show for it :-[ Last years Tom was 3ft off the end of my gun barrel when I pulled the trigger...he'd been strutting and drumming for a long time just feet away but on the blind side of blind...I said first clear sight of blue and...took his head right off as you can see in pic
-
Well first.... 100ft from blind ...BUSTED....snort..snort...snort on one side and a fly away on the other...Great.....I decide to sit tight and be quiet...watched a very blonde fox hunting mice out in front of me ...heard all the birds waking yet not a single turkey sound...checked watch at 7am.....next thing I know I'm falling and awake with a start....wonderful... now the watch says 8am...wonder how many birds walked by...and happy no bear ??? ....Already in character I decided to let loose with a mad hen call and was cut off mid series...Oh boy she was angry and the game was on ...I could hear her running through the woods to me, mad as all get out ...then a loud snap and all went quiet....I tried calling a bit more then stayed still.....Then dark movement way out in front of me ...A Tom was quietly walking through the woods towards me stopping to survey things for long periods....I got the gun ready and did a few soft yelps and that brought him in at angle in front...He looked small so I held off ...he popped out from behind a lrg maple and jumped a log...I could see he was a Jake ...no spurs but a thick double beard....estimate 5-6in and 3-4 in....he had his feathers all smoothed down and you could see he was just a yungin....next year though he should have fill out nicely ...he got to 15yrds and walked around back of me...perhaps to go smooth the ruffled feathers of that hen
-
I've been seeing button bucks...just little scruffers but this past weekend I had 3 really nice buck walk past the front porch from the size of the necks...length of body and girth of chest ....If they hang around it should be a promising year ;D
-
Knocking on wood ...I say are turkeys are great this year...but I've seen way fewer crows...and have no complaints about that!
-
Congrats on a great bird and hunt!
-
Great Hunt! Congrats
-
Normally it would be me saying that ...but not this year...everyday there's been 3-4 Toms sounding off all over the property...and a few I've called in off others properties at a long distance...traveling and calling much more than I've ever heard this time or any time during hunting season.
-
Well that's hunting...with so many trespassers I just couldn't risk shooting before seeing exactly what the wht was...It got my concentration off and I apparently didn't recover it enough for a good shot...my fault......That Tom is blessed...first a live hen takes him away and now a deer saved him...He seems to gather his own woodlen guards....which is why he's so big...lol
-
I have to say I put the decoys away....they come in looking for the hen if I'm calling right....calling with my natural vioce gives me a different and wider range...they come in well to...I rarely hunt open fields for we have few and the ones we have are close to property lines and roads
-
So I got up at 3:45 and hit the road to ground blind I had called in the big Tom a hen had taken away....left everything but the thermacell and gun home....I first heard him gobble a 1/2 mile down the hill behind me and sat tight...hoping one closer would let loose...none did but I could hear him getting closer....when he finally got 2-3hundred yards to my right and a bit infront of me I did a couple of 2 note yelps and he closed the distance Gobbling his head off...I yelped clucked and purred softly and moved my foot through the leaves...and he popped out into the clearing....He is so big and in full color heading into the slashing where I sat....I readied the gun into a small opening and just before he stepped in I see flash of wht behind and up hill from him...CRAP!!...I look hard and realize it's a deer that came in with him but not in shot range...By this time he's in the opening and head high looking for me...28yrds...I touch off the shot...he jumps bringing his wings up behind him and then runs like the wind ...I stood to get a shot off in another opening but he was way too fast...sitting I see the deer is still just standing there trying to figure out what happened...then it turned and trotted away... :-[ I went to inspect the shot and I hit a maple before and infront of him a tad low and a maple under and behind him....only two small breast feathers and I searched the entire area I watched him run through...nothing....The flash of white from the deer flicking it's tail just threw me off...Dang ...I'm pretty sure I won't be calling him in again this spring :-\ I can't complain ....I've hunted 4 days and called birds in four times and have 2 down....mine ...Mr.B's and this Tom twice...not bad for the first 6 days of the season
