  1. So far pretty active for the first all day sit of the season. Day began with a small buck, small 5 or 6pt, chasing 3 doe out of bedding area on side of pond. Does came walking by at about 20yds buck went by at about 33yds. Then some does later in the morn. Later a lone button buck walked practically right up to my tree. Then later another small buck, 6pt, trailing a doe right by my treex about 15yds. So far 8 does and 3 small bucks...no big boys yet.
  2. Settled in stand waiting on sunrise. Good luck all, I've got a feeling it's going to be great morning on the forum!
  3. I always thought strong winds minimizes deer movement but doesn't sound like it from the reports on here and from what I've seen today. Been on stand since about 2:30 and have ateady had 2 groups of 3 doe slowly walking/grazing by. Had 2 of them under 15 yds, others between 25 - 35yds. Now hopefully some big boys will come through
  4. Power just came back on. Looks like I'll make it out for a PM hunt after all! Not the way I wanted my first day of my huntcation to go. Oh well, good luck all!
  5. Agreed. When I say passed up a shot, I mean that it was less than 30yds and presented an ethical shot that I would have actually taken if was going to try to kill it...buck or doe
  6. So sorry to hear of your loss, thoughts and prayers
  7. 8F; rubs and scrapes starting to pop up. Saturday neighbor took a 4Pt that had been sparring with another buck. Daytime buck activity seems to be increasing as Saturday I passed on a medium 8Pt that walked by my stand. Last night chase phase seems to be ramping up hearing buck snorts and chasing from the stand
  8. Out of work early to get on stand by 2:30. One lone yearling doe walking thick stuff along the pond edge at about 3:30. About 4:00 hear some chasing going on a couple times in that area then all quiet until about 5:30...same area a couple buck grunts and chasing. Never seen them as they headed other direction around pond but looking like its ramping up now. Should be a great weekend!
  9. I have a stonewall that runs along the backside of my property. There is a strip of pines that fingers down towards the wall that some deer follow. When they get to the wall a number travel one way or the other along the wall but I noticed a low spot in the wall there, where the deer also jump the wall traveling towards a pond. I keep the east side of the pond as a thick sanctuary and only go into this area if a blood trail goes into there so it is a pretty good bedding area. I actually removed a few more stones from the dip in that wall and the deer use it pretty regularly as a crossing point jumping over the wall at that spot and continuing down to the pond. The 8Pt I passed on yesterday jumped the wall there and walked by my stand at 11yards. My stand is about 45 yards from the wall along a travel corridor they use to travel towards the pond. I took a 9pt that jumped the wall there a few years ago that I grunted in when i saw him traveling across that finger of pines. The grunt turned him and he traveled down the finger of pines, jumped the wall, and gave me a 35 yd shot. Over the years Ive watched countless bucks use that path going to the bedding area to check for hot does. Plus it's pretty cool watching them jump the wall...LOL
  10. First deer of the day, lone medium 8Pt just walked by, passed on him at about 11Yards.
  11. In stand for this season's first all day sit...in my stand I got the 10pt out of last season. First sit back in this area, I save it for when rut activity seems to be ramping up....so here we are. Good luck boys&girls! Looking forward to some harvest pics today
  12. Nice buck. Looks like neck swollen and hocks pretty dark...good sign the rut is starting up
  13. Nice. I would love to get one some day as well. I'm not good at judging bear weights. What would you guess that one to weigh?
  14. All settled in the stand waiting for sunrise. Only my second morning sit of the season, looking forward to watching the woods wake up again. Action's been a little slow here. None of the big boys seen yet this year, although I have passed on a couple younger bucks. Hopefully the chilly morning will have some of the big boys on their feet during daylight. Good luck all...as I'm typing this, hearing some coyotes sounding off way in the distance.
  15. You can't beat that feeling. Last year when I got my 10Pt, buck fever was kicking in so bad it took me 3 tries to finally pull my bow back and I literally pulled that string back hundreds of times over the summer leading to bow season with no problems at all. I got lucky, I dont know how he didn't see me shaking trying to draw that bow back...LOL
  16. Managed to get out of work a little early and finally doing my first sit of the season. Feels good to finally be out here. Good luck all.
  17. 10/1 PM hunt after work for the opener; hopefully in stand by 2. Will be missing the first Saturday of the season, 10/5 as I'll be checking skydiving off my bucket list that day but will be back in the stand on Sunday; well, that is if all goes OK with the jump on Saturday!
  18. Amazing work as usual!
  19. Has anybody heard the date for the NYSBBC Dinner Banquet in September and are any from here planning to go? Would be nice to meet some of you, if you're going to be there.
  20. Managed to switch a few things around at work and back out here for the last day....in the game until about 830. Hopefully can get a bird to play early, then off to work. Good luck to all pushing it this last day.
  21. No turkeys heard or seen yet but just had a young buck with small velvet nubs walk by me...at about 12 yards. Love those close encounters from the ground
