To attract deer I would think... just because they are nutritional for the deer doesn't mean they aren't an attractant as well..I know that saying that the plots help feed the deer makes everyone feel good about hunting the land they plant ... I'm just saying that they are planted because of hunting so I would consider them hunting plots... Joe, you can call it what you want but for someone who understands the industry and been involved with it, there is a difference. Don't want to argue but it's a fact.

Catskilled, I grow both ag beans and ealge beans. My eagle beans get over 4ft high with deer browse and my ag beans grow 18". I love them both! Do a search on this forum and you can see my pictures. Also, ealge soybeans are the only forage soybean that is round up ready. You get what you pay for.

Yes, Joe I wouldn't plant food plots if I didn't hunt. I also don't plant kill(hunting) plots. My plots are all Nutritional plots. I want to creat the best property around me!

I don't think that's the right question but yes I plant my foodplots for deer and other critters. However, the trees and shrubs I plant is to create better habitat, which has benefits for the whitetail. So basically everything I do on my place has a benefit to deer and yes I hunt them. The question should be..Do you plant hunting plots or Nutritional plots? I don't care what you all might say but there is a difference between the two.

So food plots hold deer on property????????I always thought it was cover/habitat. You can have 50 acres of ideal food but if you don't have the proper cover you will not hold deer on your land. Many of you seem to fall for the marketing of these commercial deer seed companies that if you plant their 1/4 acre seed you will have more deer on your land and monster bucks. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. A small plot less than an acre in the big picture will do nothing for attracting nor nutrition. Food plots are just on application to help manage the deer on my property, more goes into it. Sorry guys!

Unforseen harsh winters throws a monkey wrench into their analysis. However, since we are dealing with a wild herd, estimatating will always be part of the process. The process isn't perfect but I do think it get's them close.

well since most deer are killed during the opening weekend, I would say 40%? Every opening day I play to games: what time the first shot rings(unfortunately before legal shooting time) and how many shots I can count(I usually stop at 100).

wow all great stories. I bought my 98 1/2 acres with my dad in 2001. With the help of my brothers we built a nice house over the years and all love to spend time there. Taxes are getting crazy along with all the habitat work but still worth every penny! Can't wait for the kids to become age and hunt!

given the size of your plot i wouldnt plant corn or soybeans. Clover would work but u need a soil sample first to see what the ph is and what your p n k lrvels are. white clover needs a ph over 6.

yep, we all needed to have on our person a card signed by landower giving permission to hunt. On a different note....landowners and family that lives on land doesn't need to pay for a hunting license, it's free!

Robinson, given the fact you are new to plotting I would plant an annual versus a perrenial. Are you looking for a nutrional or harvest plot? Any questions you have send me a pm.

We have a few WGI IR4. for the most part they are ok for the money but I have sent 2 back already for repair. What model you using?

If I remember correctly compound bows weren't listed in the NY Syllabus until the early 90's in the definition of a bow but ECO didn't ticket people for using a one. :-\
