I think what they are saying is that their classes (at Gander) were not well attended due to plenty of other options for the new prospective hunters.

PM incoming.

I only left this cigar in my mouth because if I would have laid it down I'd have either lost it or started a Livingston County prairie fire. (yes you are correct, that is a former Pygmy-owned gun!)

I'm thinking of starting a web site dedicated to big doe & little bucks. I can tell all my stories and solicit more from like thinking true hunters. Relax.......I'm kidding -
My, hasn't this thread taken a detour. Great pics and bucks! I'd love to see pics of the stand, to & fro.

Figures I'd show up right about now.................... I have killed plenty of good bucks and lots of little ones. The big bucks haven't meant all that much honestly. Sure, at the time its a hoot but I'd say the buck that means the most to me was the 217lb dressed brute I killed with the bow a few years ago. He shattered all "records" that we have kept in camp for 50+ years. I can go out in my garage or basement and you could point to just about any of the racks and I could tell you the story about that hunt. Might even be a twinkle in my eye at the time............... Have I ever mentioned the 150 lb dressed doe from Holland NY I killed? She was special in so many ways to me. Funny thing; they all are special. They ALL are very special to me. -
Thanks, very nice job.

3.5 mile portage? Holy Buckets.....................that's NUTS! It sounds like a great time other than 'tage thing.
-
Well done! That has to be quite a load in the canoe, do you know approx what your loaded weight was? I spent a fair amount of nights in wall tents and it really is the "high life". About as good as it gets. I didn't watch the vids yet, but will.

You have a lot going on in that post.........the point that that got me first is highlighted in bold above. SAY WHAT? Soooooo, a 6 pointer is how old? And a 10 pointer is........?? And to think all these years I've been going with the old lower jaw thingy.......... -
Sounds like a heck of good shooting gun that lands a bullet in the right spot with some ass behind it! Driven by the Wildcat Junkie of course.......... I have never had a Kahles, only had one Zeiss. I did shoot a friends 6.5x284 that had a Kahles on top, nice glass! You mentioned a roof, was that a typo? Sounds like a winner..........commercial built? Any pics? It sounds like a great location by all the success, you must have that prevailing wind in your face?

I'm not too into speculation. I'll wait and let the DEC know my feelings when I get the survey. -
You mention having a Manhattan or two?? I took a shining to them probably 20 years ago. They sure can be mixed different ways; different whiskey, bitters, cherries etc but last fall I was introduced to a different (new?) vermouth. If you haven't tried it, I highly suggest you track down a bottle or two. Really changes the game....... http://www.specialitybrands.com/brands/antica-formula-vermouth Just a splash or two and one cherry then the bourbon of choice. Right now I'm tugging on a bottle of Makers Mark............not really NOW, but probably tonight.

What is your gun, chambering and bullet of choice? ( let me guess, fixed 4x glass ) What do you have for a rest on the tripod stand?

Sounds like a great day. Did you have to contend with much snow on the ground? How about your GPS, what kind is it? Do you carry a compass just in case? I've owned a couple handheld GPS units in the past, my first was back in about 1994. It was an Eagle AccuNav IIRC. It was huge, maybe 8"x4"x2" or so......battery life for those 6 AA's was horrid. You had to carry at least two reloads of AA's batteries to make it all day in the bush! My 2nd one was a Garmin 45XL (?) I don't recall how many AA batteries it ran on but it must have been 6 - 8 also but they lasted a week! The thing was a fraction of the size of the Eagle unit. I got lucky and sold the Eagle off to a guy in Colden via an ad in the old Swap Sheet! I imagine GPS units have come light years since then! Back when I messed with them I was hunting out west quite a bit and it was DIY. These days I'd rather rely on a locals knowledge and packstring.............

Yes it is a used gun but you couldn't tell from handling it. I don't think I'd want to know how bad he took it in the shorts.............Someone is going to a deal on a great gun. I probably thought about buying it and flipping it and probably should have. Hopefully the tip was helpful to you guys........ -

I'll probably get put on "double secret probation" for this one.............. You've seen all the commercials. But what really happens when you ask for help with an erection lasting more than 4 hours? I walked into a drug store and asked to talk to a male pharmacist. The woman I was speaking with said she was the only pharmacist and since she and her sister owned the store, there were no male employees. She asked if she could help me. I said that I really would have preferred to speak with a male pharmacist. She assured me that she was completely professional and whatever it was that I needed to discuss, I could be confident that she would treat me with a high level of professionalism. I reluctantly agreed and began by saying, "As a shy man, this is tough for me to discuss, but here goes. I get erections every day that last more than four hours. This condition causes me a lot of problems and severe embarrassment. I was wondering what you could give me for it?" The pharmacist said, "Just a minute, I'll talk to my sister." When she returned, she said, "We discussed it at length and this is the absolute best we can do: * 1/3 ownership in the store, * a company pickup truck, * a king size bed and * $3,000 a month in living expenses." -

Why play "what if" games? We already have one of them going on in the thread "no more buck hunting". One is enough......... -

I promise you I didn't mess a second of childhood fun in the outdoors OR indoors.........born in '61 I was well before PC crap too but I have always had enough respect for all guns that I sure as hell don't want them pointed at me or anybody else on my watch. Lots of things have changed beyond my control but some things I can...............

I always shot mine at 40 yards. I used a 30" circle with a turkey target/silhouette taped to it with the center of the base of the neck in the center of the 30" circle. I wanted to know where my pattern density was along with how many pellets in the head/neck area. Can't help with the shooting range.............good luck!
