  1. I should add that at about the same time I also bought a Benelli 20ga Montefeltro. I know the SBE is a 26" barrel and I think the 20ga is a 24". I bought the 20ga for dove hunting in PA and it is just a dream to hunt with.......corked pheasants with it too. Shot a pile of casual sporting clays with it over the years and its A1 there also! EASILY my favorite shotgun, hands down. That's why I say to take a hard look at the 12ga 3" Montefeltro (if they even still make that or was it replaced by the Vincy?).
  2. I bought a SBE about 15 years ago and it has been flawless. That said, if I had to do it again I'd probably get the 3" Montefeltro instead since the quality of turkey loads are so good these days. Same with goose or duck hunting, I don't think you need 3.5" Roman Candles.
  3. I have also heard great things about the Ruger American Rifle. I handled a couple but never shot them, might just buy a LH version 223 for pliking........ The 308 will be fine for your dad, I just got one for my father! I haven't decided on bullets yet for his but one option if you want to go with a premium bullet is the Barnes 130gr TTSX. I wouldn't think the recoil will be too stout with it. If you went with another bullet manufacturer, I'd probably go with 150gr variations.
  4. Ya think that was a little fake? Editing genius; yup.
  5. I guess just the basics; how is the resolution with yours and how far can you discern quality of a buck? The camera you use is a dedicated "plot watcher" type, have you used others? Yours set up for dawn to dusk, that works well? How big of a SD card do you need, how quick do they fill up? Thanks..........
  6. Oil it up and run the choke in and out a few times. It should be fine as long as your definition of light rust jives with mine.
  7. 1st paragraph: You're whacked. 2nd paragraph: If a 4pt was legal down south you wouldn't have shot it this year? Damn.........that's tough to believe. Public land, new state, limited time? OK...........
  8. I know the entrance/exit points easy enough.............This is more to prove to my buddy what exactly is visiting this field in an area that is hidden from his stand view. I'm trying to convince him to put up an elevated hut to greatly increase his viewing area. Another thing.......I need to keep him excited on the prospects for next fall by getting plenty of pics of the monarchs.
  9. Heck yea! Drive the boat & drink PBR. Sweeeeeeeeet!! (But you better be back for some bass fishing............................ )
  10. Anybody use a dedicated plot watcher camera? How about a camera with a plot watcher mode? Fill me in on your thoughts please. Thanks.
  11. I thought of that to but it looks to even and clean?? I know of a guy that killed a buck that had been walking around with (IIRC) an entire arrow through his nasal cavity. He was acting completely normal.........until this fellow put an arrow in the vitals!!
  12. Damn the luck, I thought we finally had something to sink our teeth into.
  13. THAT is the thing about the these late season gigs that gives me the heebee-geebees.............. BTDT and might do it again this weekend............
  14. One thing that I can add that is very important in my very humble opinion is..........with a dog, you have a "window of opportunity" in which to teach that dog the rights and wrongs of about a year and a half. After that, if that dogs is misbehaving and acting up it could be a lost dog that you won't want for a house pet/hunting dog. Get it done NOW. I can't stand jumping, barking, not obedient dogs. Don't even mention dogs/cats that aren't house broken........I've seen it all in my past career, EVERYTHING! I learned this as a kid with a golden retriever that was too wild and eventually my dad said it had to go....
  15. You have to show her who the boss is......tough love works every time...........judiciously of course. .
  16. I rethought my response..........of course its worth it, its a GUN SHOP.
  17. Pygmy should be able to address this one........... (the same company has their parent store in Rochester, Beikirchs.)
  18. This is a pretty good read if you're into this stuff. Some of their charts were a bit confusing to me but never the less, very informative. The bottom line is that rifles are the ONLY way to go. http://www.ihea.com/_assets/documents/AFWA_Presentation_9-18-07.pdf
  19. I had a pretty good laugh when I read the first sentence! Knowing growie as we all do I shouldn't be surprised to see a post like this but I have to admit, it does look strange in the pics. We need closeups..........WOOLY, get on the case!!!
  20. Keep 'em clean guys............... And try and post something funny. After Mr VJP's post were either going to get this thread yanked by the mods because its too dirty or NOT funny.
  21. That's how you sell more pork.........duhuh!
  22. That'd probably be funny if I ran those words by Google, hang on a second.....................
  23. I'll go first.................. Why Parents Drink A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an Envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to 'Dad.' With the worst premonition he opened the envelope with trembling hands and read the letter. Dear Dad: It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice. But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercings, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But it's not only the passion...Dad she's pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it. Don't worry Dad. I'm 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to know your grandchildren. Love, Your Son John PS. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Tommy's house. I Just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than a Report card that's in my center desk drawer. I love you. Call me when it's safe to come home.
