  1. You can hunt them 24/7 right now until some time in March,Road killed deer or other animals are the best to put outset up a blind 50 - 100 yards away, put out a trail camerea to see when the are coming to feed,.220 swift,.223 any thin that size is good, alot of people use shotguns.
  2. Don't waist your money on a range finder, practice shooting from the height you were from a deck, garage roof anything at that height, always mark a distance you are comfortable shooting at.use a deer shaped target. And remember always clear your shooting lanes around your stand. Also deer like to jump the string.
  3. I am seeing new rubs every day but no scrapes.
  4. Call your local ECON officer and see if he will give you another permit.
  5. Like Pipecrew said,You should have went back to camp and called Deersearch. My first bow bock the arrow was deflected by a tree branch(another fellows ladder stand) it took 4 other fellows and myself 3 hours to find it about a mile away.S... happens.
  6. That is a wall hanger, cograts, how was it taken firearm or bow?.I hope some sporting goods is having a contest for a free mount,in her area .
  7. The bad part of the story is that the reporter called what they were using a Bow and Arrow. :'(
  8. I have a store bought ladder stand, secured to a forked trunk tree, then added a fold up swivel seat and I made a fold down arm/gun rest that is attached to the tree with fold down legs that rest on the stand platform with a pulley and rope for hoisting things up and one of the fold up umbrelas.
  9. Not to change the subject,I am a former member of Dear Search and had a Leashed Dog Tracking LIc.I gave it up because of a heart condition. When I lived on L.I.,I went out with Lee B. a few times and it was at most times the next morning after she was notified and at times it rained or snowed over night,You would not believe how the dogs picked picked up the sent of the wounded deer. Now that I am in the Catskills with my two beagles and a Lab. they all go nuts after the rain when I let them out in the morning. The female beagle I think has the best nose and the lab is next. The both go out with there noses up in the air and then planted on the ground. As said earlier in this subject I have also seen more deer coming out to eat just before or while it was raining.
  10. I have and can remember sitting on a tree stump in front of a pine tree with my bright orange poncho on and having two groups of deer walk down the side of the hill that I was posted on and they stopped right in front of me grazing, not more then 10 feet away. And that just happened a year we had no party permit.
  11. Almost the same as Fantail's.With less meat, cut up onion/red and green peppers, garlic, pasta sauce, salt, pepper and other spices to taste.Cut the halves to fit in a Crock Pot,take some alum. foil and put in the bottom of the Crock Pot, to keep the halves about an inch off of the bottom, add about an inch of water.Mix everything together and fill cavity and place on the foil in the Crock Pot.Set on Low and leave for about 3 hours. The last 20 minutes to a half hour add the cheese.Enjoy,
  12. I just realized that the LifeTime NYS Sportsman License is Some thing I should have done a long time ago. No more traveling to a store, town hall or were ever and standing on line waiting to get your license and apply for a doe permit. It gets mailed right to your house or PO Box.And It even comes on time. I guess I will go online and get my archery and MZ next. And apply for a doe permit too. By the way this is not the first year I have the life time license.
  13. No it is a liquid that they sell,it is clear,it comes in a 4 fluid oz.plastic bottle with a metal cap and ball shaped applicator inside,it smells at first but the odor goes away. It is there Silicone Water - Guard,Water and Stain Repellent. ITEM #1337 At. ATSKO,INC Got that right off of the bottle I have. I would go to there website and see if they still sell it.
  14. I have shot both out of my compounds and conventional bows,I keep on picking up the ones with feathers.I have very few with vains left only on my alum. arrows,I shoot mostly carbon arrows.I have been using for the last 10 years,I thing it is a form of silicone sold by Astko or the people that sell Sno Seal.I have coated them once and let them sit for a week before using ,no odor after.and never got soaked with water. It has to add a fraction of weight to the feathers, but as stated on another post I use 125 grain broadheads. It is energy that counts not speed.
  15. SOB,Did the doctor tell you to drink plenty of water to help try to pass the stone,I had 3 trips to the hosp. the first one the bombarded, the second one the kept making me drink a fluid and passed gravel,The third one I was in the OR and they plucked it out the size of a pinkey finger nail.Proberly the worst pain you will ever have. When you have one moving.

    New to NY

I would re consider plenty of state land in and around the Albany area.
  17. Honey glazed donuts, for snacks,PJ on white bread, for lunch,or a tuna fish on whole wheat on Friday.
  18. I had a picture on my trail cam. of something all black like that only not as fat,a walking away shot.Nobody could guess what it was.And it was not near water.
  19. As WNYBH said you should buy a scope with the eye relief for the firearm you are going to use, as a pistol you would want a long eye relief and a 22 rifle you might want a shorter eye relief as 2 - 1/2" to 3".
  20. That is no fun you want to do it with a live round in the chamber, when you get a red ring on or above your eye lid you know it is set too close.
  21. The first one I got was with my recurve, now after many years and many ruined arrows,I place little red dots spread out on my targets and do not shoot for groups any more, try to hit the dots.More so when shooting broadheads.
  22. When I lived on Long Island the regular season for deer ran until the 31 of December,If I were to sit for any amount of time 20' - 30' up in a tree stand. It could get pretty cold. I would walk in with a light set of clothing and back pack in my heavy fleece and wool clothing.always carried hand and foot warmers.I have put on or bought velcro bands around the sleeves which kept the bow string from getting caught.
  23. Mmmm,Just finished supper it was Good,Fresh garden Vegies. and a Venison stake on the Barbi.Last years Doe.I have been letting the little guys walk lately,Last year I shot a 4 pointer only because it had a deformed rack, did not want his genes passed on.I have been letting this one walk ever since he was a spike, three years ago he was a 4 pointer walked up right behind me and grunted,I let him walk.then he was a 6 pointer, let him walk during archery season, last year he was an 8 pointer and I saw him again in archery season,I saw him today he was bedded down, got up looked at me and shook his head with the velvet hanging off and walked off. This year is going to be a tuff one his a definate shooter. Not a high tined rack but wide as anything.I have to give him credit for out smarting the other hunters in he area, so far.
  24. I had one like that,if you held the trigger in the right spot you could fire it very fast,One time a friend was near by and thought I had a semi auto shotgun.I had the slug bbl.and the improved cyl. bbl.Got pleanty of rabbits with it. The new one sure is pretty.
  25. I have never seen or heard one shoot, but if the release noise is that loud I would think there would be a lot of deer jumping the string.
