Folding Chairs for Ground Blinds
Gthphtm replied to wztirem's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I find the little fold up chairs a waist in my blind, very unstable and too low.For next year I am going to move my main pop up blind to another spot.I am going to cut down a tree with a 4" dia. trunk and put my strap on revolving chair on to the tree trunk and then put the blind up over it. No more wobbely chairs and can move 360 degrees without making any noise. -
The biggest deer I ave ever seen in person was bedded down in a frozen swamp in a clomp of high grass.Talk about buck feaver,I miss juged how far it was I thought about 100 yds.<my brother in law said 200.It was a wide ,high tined 10 pointer.Took 3 shots at it it just layed there a and crawled out to the outher side of the swamp then ran like hell when it got on solid ground.I know of 5 other people that had shots at it and never hit it.What ever happened to it know knows or will say.

It is a shame the DEC can not put out more of the remote control deer that they have.About 7 years ago they did it in one town we were hunting a nabbed quite a few people.Shooting across roads ,from or on the hood of cars and trucks. They even had video cameras set up.

I have not been out that much since my accident the end of the first week of Bow season. After that just scouting could not hold a bow with me left hand and could not draw with my right arm.I saw a nice basket racked 6 pointer with a doe, that figures.Opening day of rifle season I sat in one spot all day, there were 5 does bedded down 75 yards from me from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm they just stayed in one spot, had no bucks visiting them. Yesterday I saw 12 does again no visitors and today I saw 8 does and no bucks. It seems they are starting to heard up but are not moving.

WHEN YOU LIVE IN A quiet rural area You Can Pick Them Up As They Are Driving Buy Your Property,Some are pickups with Glass packed mufflers or afrtermarket Dual exahust. That steady low rpm sound,And some in Cars,The passenger window is usally rolled down,And he is ready to shoot with his or her firearm or Now With A CROSSRIFLE,How the heck are you going to draw a Normal bow in a truck or car?. How many have seen or heard this lately?.

burmjohn; You have a good rifle and a good caliber, any thing from 110 grain to 220 grain and a good scope one of the top three ever made,If the rifle shoots good and the scope is clear. Why would you want to waste some money on something else.Been there done that and Pi...d a lot of money on guns and scopes.

belmorekennels is right about hunting during the week,as a former member I would rather do it then, sorry to hear they still have the ATV and trail bike problem. When I belonged to the club Bob and others really tried to stop them.Have you tried hunting the area to the left of the clubhouse when you walk out the Back door.I have had good luck there.I now live Upstate and it would be a 4 -5 hour ride for me to get there.

Seen any bear or heard of any by you lately?.

Just about every house after mine are owned by the down or out of state weekenders. They were up for opening day and the few days after that.More then last year.A good amount of deer came down the road on the back of there cars and trucks. It seems as most of them went back home for the holiday. We will see how many are back up for the rest of the week.

I sat in one spot all day Sat. and Sun. both days there were 2 adult and 3 young does 75 yards from me bedded down, waited from 7.00 Am till 4.00 Pm for a buck to show up it never happened.

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
Gthphtm replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
If you have ever been shot at when wearing full camo,I think you would think twice about at least wering at least an orange hat.If you would let your child out into the woods during hunting season without any orange I guess you do not care about there safety. -
pre- Gun season scouting trail cam pics
Gthphtm replied to JLaw2013's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
One way to find out is just leave a camera set up for Week or more during the hunting season and see if one of them keep coming back. -
Most photo programs have the word Edit some where in them click on that and it then should have resize.

One year while turkey hunting with a turkey decoy in a small clearing in the woods,I had a spike buck come in stomp ,grunt then trash the hell out of my decoy.I guess he thought the turkey was invading his territory.

Now you want to hear some bad luck,it may not be bad news.I decide to go and put my trail camera up in the area I would like to hunt next week.Being that I am all banged up and bruised from an accident I had a little over a week ago, lucky no broken bones.Sprained 3 fingers on my left hand, took a really hard hit on my right bysept and pulled a mussel below my right sholder. So there goes bow hunting for this year.I get on my ATV,it is all up hill to get to the spot, get there found some fresh rubs.Put up the camera and start back to the house.A little less then 100 yards from the house a nice basket racked 6 pointer gets up walks about 10 yards and stands there staring at me,I am now stopped,I look to my left and there is his girlfriend just laying there. So I just rode back to the house.I should learn to take a camera with me at least I can shoot it with that.

Did you ever think of buying a Horse bow,I thought about it when I had mine but she just got too lod to climb the hills where I live,as a matter of fact we both did.Don't give up.
-
How can it be Bad News You have until Dec. 21 to get it done.NYSDEC does not force you Not to use a bow in any of the other Seasons,They just say you have to abide by the rules of that season.Just be thankful that you are healthy enough to get out there and do what you enjoy. If you choose to hunt on state land you should know that anyone is allowed to walk, run or whatever thy are allowed to do.We have hunted most of our lives on state land or parks and a good amount of the time a person walking or riding a bike would kick up a deer that was just laying there waiting for you to move.
-
I am ready sighted in at 25,50 and 100 yards. You never know where thy will be.

Polpropylene material or Merino wool,I find keeps me dry and warm as a base layer.Polyester seems to hold moisture and under armor litterly stinks after a days use.
-
Another thing to consider is the genes of the bucks in the area.In the past our group has taken the ones with deformed antlers first so there genes were not past on.
-
They are saying 4" with mixed rain and sleet on top of that early AM tommorow.
-
Been wearing them oh the back of my colthing for 50 + years,no problem lost one recently, had a copy.Like SOB said make a couple of copys.
-
No excuse not to see a deer if it stays like this tommrow morning.I have around an inch and a half on my back deck now and it is still coming down. Up on the side of a mountian Delaware county.

Flash does not bother them at all,I have had them licking the camera and some with there eyes right in the camera lens.
