  1. makes sense. I'm in a similar boat I think and my thought was more about saving the shoulder and a little less flinch.
  2. not just looks. clearly you'd be able to assassinate all sorts of people before you were noticed.
  3. curious why you chose a .308. I'm setup with my only rifle bigger than my .22 right now (.30-06) and looking to go the other direction.
  4. I agree, but iirc it's still like a 30-40db reduction and brings it down around 120-130db, and with how wave sound travels that can make a huge difference on which neighbors call the cops or not.
  5. good topic. I'm starting to dip my toes into predator hunting. I've always been a "results oriented" hunter. Meaning I need to benefit from the time and effort and mostly that's meat. Too many researches indicate that you're not saving the lives of any deer or turkey, and in some cases cause them to breed more. So I thought furs would be cool, but man after a few youtube videos... the efforts just to flesh seems like a lot. I don't know.
  6. It's funny right, in Scotland all hunters use suppressors... because guess what? Guns are loud and damage your hearing! They think it's crazy that we don't. And I've shot ARs down south that were suppressed, it's nothing like these hitman movies, they're still loud. Plus, with predator hunting at night, a bunch of shots at 1am can raise unnecessary suspicion. A suppressed .223 would be ideal in my opinion.
  7. I hate that only 5 days into researching an AR for coyotes I've already started contemplating building one... It's like a drug that I became addicted to via contact high...
  8. you said they say its beneficial to feed them, that was what I was pushing back against.
  9. tradition i think. it's why a lot of southern states still allow running them with dogs, eventhough many are against it.
  10. haven't done a ton of research, but it seems the ATN 4k would be a better buy for not a ton more money. I usually subscribe to you get what you pay for and wonder if the cheapest scope out there is worth the gamble.
  11. I'm not sure who or if anyone said that, but I do know that NY is still CWD free, and not baiting isn't hurting that cause. Not to mention, it's not very sporting. We have enough issues with anti's, for them to know we were dumping corn for poor starving deer to come eat just to shoot them wouldn't help our cause.
  12. thanks. I have always had my 10rd .22 mag loaded while hunting squirrels and got a little worried, but I guess I'm good. Seems like you wouldn't ever use more than a few rounds on yotes anyhow.
  13. agree. and if we were all to remove our passion from the conversation, the state has major budget and criminal law issues. Spending time on sunrise and sunset laws just isn't a big priority for them. We're not Montana, Alaska, Colorado etc where big game hunting is a significant contribution to our economy. Heck, the fact that we can even still hunt black bears is kind of shocking in this blue state. They're not looking to spend time on reform and enforcement of game laws as evident with the small amount of ECOs we have per unit.
  14. baiting was legal when I was downsouth within a certain distance of the stand and some other things. I didn't want to bait and went a year not doing it. Had a rough start to my second year there and bought some attractant stuff. Never having baited or used anything other than doe pee, i figured the deer would be jumping out of the trees and soon learned that baiting isn't this magic solution to improve your deer sighting. I'm not pro baiting and would be super pissed if my neighbor was doing it... but it's also maybe not the cure all some think it is.
  15. can you not have a fully loaded 10 rounder hunting yotes?
  16. he could also easily make it legal by buying a kit that pins the mag. He would need to do this anyhow to transfer or sell it within NY.
  17. i wonder if the pmag's with the removable floor plates would make unloading easier too?
  18. if you're going down that route, and not saying you are specifically, the risk is on the owner of the firearm. Not very different than still owning 30rd mags.
  19. it sounds like a PITA until you think about the fact that most of our hunting shotguns require this exact same approach lol. Oh how will I ever get all 5 slugs out of my browning? rack, rack, rack, rack, rack onto the seat of the truck lol.
  20. holy shit really? That might be one of the first stories i've heard of someone even being checked
  21. it's not that simple anyhow. Nothing would ever prohibit the sale of corn for cattle and farm. Package and call it what you want. the marketing is just that, marketing. If you wanted to buy corn you could even if the bag said cow corn.
  22. agreed. that would be a bad ass full body mount
  23. You know, I get your point, but I think you'd be surprised or maybe not at the amount of ignorance there is out there. We're a very small group of the overall ny hunting population here and represent a group that is passionate and generally well versed. Many guys out there dont have the background or knowledge. It's not an excuse for sure, but it's reality. As much as I hate the nanny state, this is one that I chalk up to "it can't hurt". And if it's the manufacturers getting their panties in a bunch because of having to reprint labels and what not, well tough shit, we're not supposed to be buying your shit anyhow, even if it is legal to sell.
  24. No. But as I said, I’m risk adverse. I’m not huge into this platform or I would have bought one a long time ago. So for me it’s a cool project and interesting gun now that I am in a better place to afford one. To risk all I’ve built with my family in THIS state, a pinned mag is something I can live with. If you check out the ejection port speed loaders, it’s not a bad deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. from what i've researched over the last few days (lol), as long as your mag is fixed, you can still have all of those features. The gray area still seems to be around the armaglock, patriot pin, CA compliant mods which requires the receiver to be open to discharge the mag. I've always been a risk adverse kind of guy though and I really dont think they fall into SAFE act compliant. I'd be curious to know more about how "fixed" something needs to be, and of course it looks like the state is intentionally vague. I'd like a device that I could remove should I move, and not something welded or glued. idk...
