  1. once you get past the stigma it's a ton of fun. You're reducing those noisy critters for next deer season, getting in the woods for a "fun" hunt, getting some post season scouting in and honestly once you get it down, cleaning a squirrel takes only a few minutes and then just throw em in the fryer and dip in your favorite wing sauce. The kids love them.
  2. Squirrel “wings” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. haha no. that's my first ever firearm that i've had since 12. squirrel wings in a fryer. just like chicken, but with squirrel. kids love them.
  4. that's the fun. I'm not that idiot anymore... usually... but was once.
  5. there are probably 5, maybe 6 real players in the compound game. Outside of that I think you're making a mistake as squirrelwhisperer said. in no order mathews, hoyt, pse, bowtech, prime, elite and maybe bear. There are some others not far behind, but that's a good starting list in my opinion. https://www.archerytalk.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=278 *in for the "but what about" * post
  6. i was talking street bikes. My first was a 600 and i'm lucky I didn't die. Still have it, just dont ride it nearly as often now.
  7. unlike some things, I think we need to discuss what "beginner bow" means. For example, many say you should start with a 250cc motorcycle before hoping on a 1000cc. It's not that the 250 isn't well made, it's just that it's more forgiving and less likely to kill you given your experience. that's not really the case with a bow and in fact a nice pse, hoyt or mathews will be exceedingly more forgiving and easier to learn. Now if you're not sure about archery hunting in general and dont want to sink $2k into a new bow, accessories and arrows then that's one thing. If you're really set on becoming and continuing to be an archer, I'd strongly urge you to find a better bow, but perhaps look used to save some money. There is nothing wrong with a 4 year old mathews. the difference is just marketing. Remember accuracy can be the difference between a clean ethical kill and meat in the freezer and a wounded unrecovered deer. I shot the same mathews switchback for 12+ years and I bought it used off ebay with accessories for like $500. Only this year did I upgrade and yes 15 years in tech does make a difference, but if it helps ease your wallet pain. That first bow cost me ~$40 a season. And the traverse I plan to own for just as long.
  8. ruger 10/22 with a simmons .22 mag adjustable. can't beat it. Only complaint I have is that I've been through a few mags as they start to fail to load after a period of time.
  9. like it or not, the guy does not fit the bill of a good christian. you can't make any argument against that either. sincerely, a trump voter
  10. In ~15 bow seasons and almost a dozen deer harvested I'd never wounded and lost a deer. I can't say the same after this year. Thankfully it was low brisket and she is ok as verified by jumping her and then pics of her later in the year. But that was something I was really proud of that I can no longer say.
  11. shot 2 squirrels yesterday which is enough for squirrel wings, but after the gym and helping wrap presents I just didn't have the energy so they went into the freezer. I'll head out over the break and try and put 2 more into the pot and make a big meal. Lost shoulders on both from the hits, which is funny when you consider how much meat that is in relation to the whole animal haha.
  12. they said it was good! https://www.themeateater.com/cook/cooking-techniques/i-ate-crow
  13. i dont get it? I love duck and my comment was truly from a place of concern and not meant as an attack on your choice, I truly hope you understand none of us meant any ill will. If anything it's respect for what you did with a side of "be careful out there young fella" haha.
  14. hate to dig up old and buried wounds, but what you guys call ganging up is not ganging up. Every once in a while there is a quick back and forth on this site between members and several white knights pop up out of nowhere to defend someone who doesn't need it. airedale posted a few of the same pics. 1 or 2 members tell him he's being a hypocrite, we quickly move on to discussing our preference in woman and it's no harm no foul for anyone. but then you come in to defend the guys credibility? Like it's not a big deal grampy, there wasn't a vote on airedale's status or anything that needed defending. Sometimes it's the gang mentality that stormy disliked so much that just makes these things bigger and worse than they are. Merry Christmas everyone
  15. for me it's just the slip hazard. cold ass water with heavy clothes is a bad deal. I'd think you could find a cheap kayak that would be a lot better choice. just my .02 though.
  16. all the guys i know that hunted Ontario (myself included) had tough years. If that's any consolation. Sorry to hear about the backstabbing. I do enjoy drama though, so lets stir it up. what happened?
  17. hey now. that's not nice. that's like bringing a steak to a vegan convention
  18. finger condoms is what we refer to them as in the medical field. probably just as cheap to cut up a glove 5 times, but yeah they exist.
  19. i used painters tape. I dont know why, and I know I'm wrong but electric tape seems too strong lol. but i put 2 overlapping strips over the end and then wrapped 2 times around the circumference.
  20. wealth and mental sanity aren't a linear relationship. But a "rich guy" rarely does shit like this. 99/100 times, it's someone pretending to be rich, or mismanaging their money to be perceived as such.
