a good reason or no, it should be noted that hogs and yotes are lumped in together a lot too... And both are invasive non-natives that kill or damage the ecosystem they've invaded. Just throwing that out there

I'm on the fence, but feel the same way. Not so much about fishing derby's which i guess is hypocritical, but there is something about hunting that is pure to me and a contest feels odd. I'd be less on the fence if I knew all the usable pelts were collected. Same goes for the squirrel hunts, as long as they're all eaten I guess I dont mind.

there's a good meateater podcast on this subject, mainly about the HSA. Whenever the grizzly, wolf, eagle etc topics come up, it's statisically proven that the New Jersey cat lady is leading the charge (they have to disclose their donation sources). It's not the lady in Montana who just lost her shitzu to a cougar who has the loudest voice unfortunately, and as someone else said it's a ridiculous sentiment that these suburban dwellers who will never worry about a grizzly or cougar can form an opinion and actually fund initiatives that in no way affect them.

Corona Virus Thread
Five Seasons replied to Al Bundy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
the flu has been pretty bad here lately. it kills people. the corona virus is a worse version. in a densely populated area like parts of china this is very serious. I'm not sure how you can be so obtuse to that. -
these things were all over the place on sale during the holidays, I'd say wait and get a killer deal.

have only bought via gunbroker. both good experiences.

it's the usual suspects in every single discussion I'm surprised I haven't heard the "trump did it to shift attention from trial" slant yet.

See below. It's not even been 24 hours and the troll comes out. Every espn piece of his legacy has included it as well. They're not just ignoring it. He who casts the first stone.

jesus what a troll. Your antisports nonsense can sit and spin. Sports may not be important to you, but the death of a guy like this surely should shed a light on how big a deal it is to others, especially the thousands of young african american youth he inspired to be their best.

Five Seasons replied to fasteddie's topic in Deer Hunting
Exactly grampy, I went over to my parents and hung out with them for a while and as they age these are good times, left to get into the woods around 9:30 and was back in around 11. That's a good friday night for me, especially this time of year when there's not a lot going on in the woods. I need to get my bearings a little more before I get more serious like some of these guys, and that includes the rig part. As much as I want to build a nice rig, it'll probably be next year as we just wrote the check for new floors over the weekend and I'm still in pain over that. -

Five Seasons replied to fasteddie's topic in Deer Hunting
So I meant to post this sooner, but had a busy weekend. I went out friday night for my first ever predator hunt. Overall it was a cool experience but I didn't get any action. I have to say that the whole process around looking for eyes and imitating prey was pretty different from the kind of hunting I'm used to and I liked it. I did super clown hunt it though and I'm a little annoyed at myself for not doing a little more prep. We have some fields that go off and on with corn and this year there wasn't any planted, usually they still till and you can sit and glass quite a ways. Well the goldenrod and weeds are still shoulder tall in spots and even with the snow they're still standing. My plant of sitting up on a rise overlooking 2 hedgrows was quickly spoiled by this as there would be no way to see a yote or fox moving through and I'd probably have to be standing too. So I setup in a less than ideal spot with little to no cover. Wind was still good and I still enjoyed the hunt, but I have to do a little more work ahead of the next hunt. Overall I'm happy with the lumenshooter amazon headlamp and gunlight. I know they're not on par with the higher ends but I was able to see pretty well. Thanks again to wnybuckhunter for the great deal on the call. -
regardless what you think of the man, you're not human if you don't feel for his wife and 3 remaining daughters. Such a cruel unpredictable world. Hug your family, don't hold grudges. You just never know.

dont give up up on what you think is dead. I had some trees with entire sections that were dead. Some chainsaw work on the dead sections, some canopy work to let the light in and pruining of the suckers and I had new growth and dying sections come back to produce apples. Sure the tree was goofy looking, but we're just talking about deer apples and who cares?
-
it should be for guns too, because we all know after you buy them they fall off your boat into the lake.
-
you look like you're having a good time haha. I used to fish in conditions like this, and must admit I've turned into a flip flops and beer fisherman post kids.

Field Dressing Preference - Do you split them?
Five Seasons replied to monahmat's topic in Deer Hunting
it's been many a year since i did a drag where I didn't have a least a sled or cart. Even those hard plastic rollup sleds just make it that much easier. The only situation I can see where contamination is an issue and it happened to me once down south is swamp. There's not much you can do in a swamp but drag it through and there's no stopping that water. -
pratice shooting at night
Five Seasons replied to rachunter's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
My first shot at night ever will be on a live animal. I agree with steve in that I dont suspect it to be much different. Last night I sat on my porch with my shooting stick and unloaded gun and practiced looking through and using the gun light. I live in the burbs and I'm glad no neighbors came knocking haha. -
wifes grandpa is a fruit tree farmer. truth here, not bs.

Furbearer Caliber Regulations
Five Seasons replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
it's so ridiculous to me that 2 counties I hunt Onondaga and Monroe are still shotgun for deer... but i could legally hunt with a rifle AT NIGHT if it's not deer season. It's very clearly not a safety thing. -

according to the meat eater guys who have been actively attacked, it works. They had a pretty cool interview from a woman researcher who was attacked and mauled too. She basically stated a gun wouldn't have worked and that the key to either gun or spray is access. It wont do you any good in a pack or a holster you can't easily access it while you're belly down or on your back. But back to spray, the thought is similar to a shotgun, you dont have to be very accurate and getting a shot off with a .44 while the grizzly is charging or has your head in its mouth is not going to be easy. -

there's a lot of mixed reviews. I've always wanted one but just can't swallow the price. I guess I also dont see a huge advantage to that 3rd leg, seems like it would just get in the way. sorry to threadjack! haha -

most of the guides prefer spray. haven't seen the show, but maybe they're carrying spray. -

good insight thatnks. I'm planning on going out tonight and I will probably come back with a better feel before I spend any money.
