  1. I’ve seen it work similar to a buck grunt in pissing off other toms, but not hens. I’ve often brought in bitchy hens using hen calls because they “don’t want some hoe” on their turf haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Yeah my fear would be ruining it... to me there is nothing worse than killing an animal having it go to waste. I think I’ll try the bacon wrapped turkey maybe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Appreciate the advice. What do you mean by rings though? [emoji51] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Just did a domestic, but never wild. Significantly different? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Ya know this was my first attempt and it wasn’t that bad. Boiled some water, through it in a cooler and shook it around for a minute and it all just stripped off nicely. Fn messy though haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. 24 pounds, 9” beard and 1.25 spurs. Looking forward to smoking him on Saturday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. My first Tom! 6:20 @ 20 yards Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. First gobble 5:45 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. omg whoever has their gun leaning against their car is asking for trouble, so easy for it to slide
  10. some of yall will rag on me for this, but there's a nest on a tree near where I park my truck. I know there's eggs in it by now and it's not directly over my truck so i don't have the heart to take it down. Only one day have I woke up to a bombing run. I'm telling myself they get a free pass but still not sure if I have the heart.
  11. excellent point. Also, while cover is more limited in the early season, your visibility is better and shooting lanes better. Obviously this works both for and against the hunter as it's much easier to get busted as well.
  12. I started turkey hunting in 2008 or so, but I know just in the 10 or 11 years that I've been in the woods that birds in my area have made a big comeback. This is a localized view of course, but I believe is generally supported by DEC research. IIRC we hit a low period in the early 2000's and have rebounded nicely the last 4 or 5 years. So for me, a relatively new turkey hunter I've been excited to see what I've been seeing.
  13. i'm not sure if this mornings flurry of pics has me excited for tomorrow or depressed as I always figure out how to screw it up lol. Congrats to all who braved the weather even if you didn't have success. I'm sure the knocking the rust off and getting some woods therapy was still worth it.
  14. i will screw this up, but i was listening to some stuff on turkeys recently and they were explaining how a female in the wild doesn't actually call for a male, it's the other way around. So when us hunters are calling to a male we're basically stating that we're fed up with something and even though we should be working are way to the gobble, we're just going to be different and stay put. This of course causes the Tom to basically say "well wtf, if you're not coming to me and you're not going to shut up about it, I'll come to you and see what's up". I may have screwed this up a little, so someone please correct me, but it makes sense that birds would become educated to this tactic that isn't natural anyhow.
  15. my history comes from a late march start in MS. Sure the weather there is very different, but we seemed to get on them earlier. I'm not a great turkey hunter, but it seems like we're missing out. i think it's less about it being easier and more about the end of May. I've never had great luck towards the end of the month. A lot less vocal birds and my turf is just me for miles, so little pressure.
  16. similar situation with a guy in my hood. worse is that they dont rake and me and my other 3 neighbors are downwind. so we get their leaves all winter long. I hate to sound like that guy, but it really does suck when all the homes are well kept and you get this one that sticks out like a sore thumb.
  17. i'd love to have a beer with your neighbors
  18. that's hunter driven though, not biology. I know there's been a handful of seasons recently where the fields were full of strutters the second week of April.
  19. why are you mowing after dark?
  20. Seems we've all generally agreed that the NY season starts a week or 2 too late for activity. With the colder, wetter spring we've been having do you guys think we might get a better month of activity?
  21. I'm a huge Simpsons fans. Not so much the last 10 seasons or so, but the classics are a part of my upbringing. That episode last night stung, but only because it's true. If comedy offends you, you're their target market. If anyone should take any issue with that episode and the last few seasons it's their political leanings. Even 20 years ago they tackled gun control and showed all sides relatively unbiased. Then it went to subtle left leanings to just outright biased agenda. Which is their right to do, but there was a time that we turned into adult cartoons to escape it all. Seems nothing is safe anymore. PS I would have loved to have seen a dig at our taxes mixed in with the song.
  22. i'm not sure what to make of my yankees. they're winning but without most of the stars. I guess that's good and reminds me of the royals and rays. But I also have stanton, sanchez and sevirino on my fantasy team and that's been rough. Now with my surprise star rendon out for a while it's hurting hard.
  23. just about everything on sat radio can be accomplished on my phone. I missed it when I dropped it about 7 years ago, but podcast and streaming music filled the void easily. Only complaint is the occasional deadspot on the drive the daks. I think what bugged me the most was when we used to listen to the comedy stations and there were constant commercials. like wtf? Isn't that the point of sat radio?
