i'm generalizing the state as a whole, and how much of that majority that lives in the city are saltwater fisherman lol? Come on man. Saltwater fishing can be one of the most expensive hobbies out there. I'm not bashing it, I assume you're right about how great it is, but look at this board as a small subset of data for example. How many are big saltwater guys vs freshwater? My post was nothing more than to dispute those who say New York is the meca for outdoor life and nothing comes close. To say you can fish ontario and the atlantic is true, but they're a good 6 hour drive apart and the later isn't too cheap unless you have the right connections. that was all.

New rifle.. What scope??
Five Seasons replied to Al Bundy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I have a leupold vx3 2-10 and couldn't be happier with its clarity and function. For your situation (very similar to mine) it's all you really need. I honestly think you could also get by with a vx2, but when I bought mine 2 years ago I liked the magnification option on the 3 more. I'd also highly recommend the leupold brand screw-on eye and objective caps. They're pricey but are a lot nicer than the butler creek rubber ones. -
limbs storage of energy is that much of a differentiation for you? It is literally the only difference between an air gun and a crossbow. Both have optics and have permanent stored energy that is released with the pull of a trigger.

yeah i should reiterate that I am not, nor was I ever really interested in this. Just thought it was an interesting topic.

why firearms. there is no powder and it shoots an arrow. sounds like archery by crossbow guys definition to me. I'll even hang a string from it if it helps
-
technically it's not. there's a 5 minute video on the website that i can't seem to link to. he talks about it not having the length of a rifle, no butt stock and a fin, not a front grip and stuff.

this is probably the right answer. still would be interested if anyone can link or cite the law though.

So how many different ways are there to field dress a deer?
Five Seasons replied to goosifer's topic in Deer Hunting
ditto. i rip almost all of it as well. I will add that some guys over estimate how far up they really need to get. Field dressing should be looked at as a quick job in any condition. Then when you get it hung up you can be a little more picky with what was left. There should be no bad stuff in the -

always something i've preferred to leave in the woods. less weight to drag out, less mess to clean up at home and the sooner you get the core cooled the better. -

alwasys core out the booty first. Then go from tip of his junk up to breast plate. move some stuff around and do some light cutting. reach up to the esophagus and cut it. rip and cut it all out. done. never sawed anything in the field. -
i'm pretty sure old school crossbows back in the medieval times had fletchings... guess they should stop calling them a bolt cocker too then...

Browsing a website trying to find something else to buy so i can get free shipping when I saw this, I'm familiar with these conversions and honestly it's nothing I'd every buy, but I did wonder if anyone knows the legality of it in the great empire state. https://www.opticsplanet.com/command-arms-accessories-micro-roni-conversion-w-stability-brace-for-glock-17-22.html

why don't they call it an arrow then?
-
i like you man, but that's a terrible idea. The whole argument for crossbows has been fueled by the idea that hunters deserve a choice. And you want to remove my choice for the best 2 weeks of the season? Why? to sell more tags? dang man...
-
wait are you saying i couldn't use my bow during crossbow? Meaning I get 3 pretty lousy weeks in early october and then I either pony up a grand for a new crossbow or I can't hunt the rut?

It probably won’t matter much to anybody just looking at stats, and personally I did just fine as most dedicated hunters did, but this year had some of the worst weather for archery I’ve ever seen and many agree. If it wasn’t for ideal snowy conditions on opening day, we might have had a record low overall. I know it was so good in 8F that Smith’s started refusing deer lol. Idk I guess I’m fine with how it is now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Aw man that sucks. At least he’s no longer suffering. Amazing what these deer can endure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 10374 replies

Maybe for some, not for all. Beaten this horse to death so many times I should save it and copy it. There’s something about watching the live from the woods thread this year and then all the sudden the bows disappear and these contraptions with scopes and bipods show up, sometimes being shot out of $3k raised and heated blinds. I won’t sit hear and pretend I hunt with a traditional bow and loin cloth. I also accept that every hunter deserves to decide what their level of challenge should be. Crossbows won’t affect my hunting. If the law changes it won’t change a thing for me. I guess I just like that there’s a season that is still “primitive”. And I’ve heard all the arguments regarding carbon fiber modern compounds, but they still require the hunter to get a deer in closer than a crossbow does and still requires the hunter to draw undetected and still requires the hunter to practice and train to perfect their form. I’m 35, I’m not stuck on “the old days”, but I do worry that new hunters will stop picking up the bow altogether. And that saddens me. My stance on disabled and elderly is well documented. I’m not sure that would sell more tags. Who isn’t buying an archery tag now that has an Xbow that would if they updated the season? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is a better way of making my point. I did not intend to discount saltwater fishing in NY. But it’s a 6+ hour drive for anyone west of Syracuse or the north. It’s not exactly mass where the coast is pretty easily accessible to most. That was my only point I guess. My guess would be that NY ranks pretty low for salt water fishing compared to other coastal states. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
