  1. so just like Obama though, you can't get shit done?
  2. Despite disability, which I believe needs to be fixed, the real answer comes down to will and desire. If you're well bodied, nothing should stop the gun hunter from entering the archery woods. Bowhunters aren't advocating for reduced archery tags, which is what you're implying. But the crossbow is indisputably easier (I didn't say easy). And yes, plenty of us are on record as not wanting that guy in the woods. And it's not because he will shoot my deer. It's because he was never passionate enough to pick up the compound and take the time to become proficient with it. So one can infer that he's less likely to spend hours prepping. Cutting shooting lanes to reduce deflection, spending time and money on scent prevention and calculating which stands to hunt and how often. These are things that worry the bowhunter. More pressure isn't good and a careless bowhunter may drive the targeted deer nocturnal.
  3. i'm vary familiar with it. My dad's cabin in the Adirondacks is 100% solar fed. I would have to sacrifice aesthetics or my whole back yard (just .75 acres) and i'm not really willing to do it.
  4. no. what's stopping the gun hunter from picking up the bow?
  5. it's sort of like a pro baseball player who lets his kid start playing soccer when he's not old enough to play ball. Because "some sport is better than none". Then when he's old enough to play ball the kid doesn't have the time or desire. As an avid bowhunter and proponent of the sport I surely want to see it succeed. Just as a ball player would want to see the sport survive. So to answer your question, it is a bad thing to me.
  6. rich coming from a guy who doesn't trust battery operated tools in 2018 and believes Jesus guides the arrow from his crossbow up the ass of the button buck he shot... which yields meat based on his chest girth.
  7. congrats on winning a meaningless prize. us non-supporters are still having a party over here by ourselves as your bills (yes plural) did not pass.
  8. no it's in committee. even posted the link for you.
  9. i'd rather not see the youth. And yes I understand many 14 year olds, especially girls cannot pull back a bow. And the youth are desperately needed. However, I fear that you buy your kid a crossbow and he never gets a bow. Heck a compound alone is pretty expensive for most parents. To get both for a kid who will grow out of it seems uncommon. Let alone learning them both and competing against everything else in their lives.
  10. fascinating. everyone here thinks guys like you don't exist.
  11. i've thought about this too. unfortunately the south facing side of my home is the front. Was it reversed i'd probably go solar.
  12. that is what I'm talking about. a 5 to 6k portable that can be backfed via a transfer switch to run select appliances. Heat is gas, but need to power the furnace. Would never consider using one to power a/c or to run the house like a normal day. Just the essentials. Plenty of people use this method. Cost less, but a pain to refill gas. as an aside, i wouldn't plan on using this for chores. I always buy gas. Who buys an electric weed trimmer
  13. yeah but I think they average around $5-$6k. that's a lot compared to a $700 portable and a switch... but I agree the best solution.
  14. Good ole Rich got back to me Dear Neighbor, Thank you for your email about the impact of proposed legislation to expand the use of Crossbows in New York State. While this provision was included in the Senate One-House budget, it was not included in the final enacted budget that was recently adopted. As a result, this expansion will not become law at this time. Thank you again for contacting me, and should this issue arise again I will continue to keep your views in mind. Sincerely, Senator Rich Funke, 55th District
  15. field dressing and skinning sounds good in theory but isn't super easy. Especially at night or inclement weather. You can buy bags that contain the whole gutted deer. Should be good for ticks. I had this plan before i bought a truck and all I had was the wife's rav4. never needed it, but i was ready lol. Also the trailer hitch cart isn't too bad either but I'd still want to cover to keep gunk off.
  16. I don't recall you and I ever really butting heads... but you are putting your own personal anecdotal evidence above a statistical survey? Come on man. There's been polls here before. I thought I started one myself but can't find it. But here's something similar https://huntingny.com/forums/topic/40822-why-did-you-buy-a-crossbow/
  17. it's funny how many deer i see during turkey and how many turkey i see during deer. Or how many during the season are out grazing fields that nobody can hunt. You'd think there were a million deer and you'd be right. But you might sit 2 days and not get an archery range shot. They're not dumb and they go nocturnal quick. Deer sign and sightings are one thing. Opportunities are another.
  18. What size and brand do you recommend for a house to cover fridge, 13 cubic foot stand up freezer, furnace and led lighting? house is 2.3k and can be run at low temps but enough not to freeze the kids. Furnace isn't mandatory because I can burn wood if it would make a substantial price difference, but would be nice. Also, what is a fair price for an electrician to install a back feed?
  19. i think you're picking up gun hunters that didn't previously bowhunt. And yes you're also getting compound hunters looking to change it up. I'm not sure anyone has survey data on new crossbow hunters that didn't previously hunt the archery season. I be it's not insignificant though. There a good handful on this site alone. To Chas' point, many gun hunters are good ethical people. Many of them like myself also bow hunt. But rarely is an archer a sloppy ass. Not impossible, but far less likely than the gun only hunter. I don't think this point is disputable.
  20. typo and i can't edit. I have no dispute. It should be simple and painless for elderly and handicapped to get a crossbow permit for the whole season. Even if that means some jokers abuse it and get one too.
  21. i'm fine with the way it is too. In no hurry to eliminate the 2 week crossbow season. Not a super fan of the long gun season. But I can generally get behind the system we have.
  22. there are a few on this site.
