this we can agree on. btw, I've spent my career on this kind of thing. Mostly DEC, EPA and OSHA. Most regs have "loopholes" or are written poorly. It literally takes an act of congress to update them so they sit unchanged because congress is a bunch of *&#($&#WQ(. At the end of the day though, very few people get off on technicalities. If they want you bad enough, they will get you.

i found with lumenoks if you change arrows occasionally they start working better again. it doesn't make sense i know. I'll probably buy firenocks the next time i get new arrows.
-
same. not a fan but they do "work". I also had some older CE lazer eyes that functioned well but aren't bright enough. Most guys recommend fire nocks but i can't stomach the price.
-
the only show i watch religously is Meateater. i will occasionally watch heartland bowhunters. I like their style of filming but can't seem to get it on carbontv anymore and directv doesn't have outdoor. I'll watch some turkeyman in the spring on occasion to get me going too. and sometimes d&dh tv but I don't what channel it's on anymore.

maybe clear as mud. and what one agency classifies as a firearm doesn't jive with what the other classifies it as for a hunting privilege lol.
-
it seems that what was quoted a few pages back clearly says that. let me pose another one. i want to hunt squirrel with a 30-06. I believe that's legal. Stupid, but legal. So I get caught in the woods during archery with a rifle. I tell the dec i'm hunting squirrel. does anyone think i'm NOT getting a ticket?
-
your burden of proof is "hunter caught on video shooting deer with crossbow". You know they convict people of murder with far less evidence. Game laws which carry some pretty puny penalties in NY aren't going to need much more than a hunter without any turkey gear in the woods with a crossbow during archery season to AT THE VERY LEAST ticket them.
-
nobody is hunting deer with turkey shot. but they are hunting with vertical bows.
-
so you'd be hunting squirrels with a bow and crossbow? If a LEO buys that story he needs a new profession. If you're turkey hunting without a decoy or a single call, than you're better than most. If you're deer hunting you cannot posses a weapon that is illegal during the deer season. that was pretty clear in the regs and right now the crossbow isn't legal.

if you paid attention at all to the illegal burying of garbage thread you would know that you never will. After countless regulations and experts tried explaining it to her, she went as far as citing regulations from Texas to defend her position... and now i'm blocked. lol. every year someone unintentionally does something wrong. They're corrected and we all move on having learned from the mistakes. Just this spring this guy shot at a second turkey on the same day. We politely pointed it out to him, he hunts multiple states and said he was confused and thanked the group for reminding him. It's very simple folks.

i actually think there would be questions. Now if you had a turkey vest on and a bunch of decoys and calls you would probably be ok. If you were in a bunch of scentlok without any calls... you'd probably be ticketed. Ultimately the issue with grow's story in my opinion is that she had both. it's a lot more fuzzy than just having one or the other.
-
you can be ticketed for just about anything. it's weather you're found guilty where the issue lies. Like a few have mentioned, is it worth it? With your logic though an officer could hear a gunshot after dark and wait for the hunter to leave the woods. He finds me dragging a buck and tickets me for shooting after legal light. I state that it wasn't me, but that I killed that buck an hour ago and it must have been another hunter who shot. What proof does he have? There are no surveillance cams in the woods that are going to prove or disprove a lot of the regs that are in the books. think about how difficult it is to catch a hunter red handed. So most likely, if you're caught with 2 weapons, 1 illegal for deer hunting, you're probably getting a ticket with a chance to fight it (at your own time and expense). just my .02.
-
maybe i worded that wrong. I've seen bucks strapped to the top of a civic with blood dripping down the sides. not a great look.
-
just saw the link. i guess they're getting smarter. this guy might not even be from Kazakhstan!

still odd if something did happen that didn't so much as get a peep on the news. the media loves these stories. Hunters will always be labeled guilty from the get go. That's why we need to push ourselves and our peers to be better. Don't leave your gut piles in a park, hunt within the rules, report the poachers, don't strap your buck to the roof of your car. These are all things that suck and shouldn't be an issue, but we live in different times. I'm not saying we should hide or shouldn't be proud of what we do. But we need the non-hunter on our side. we need their support.

Haha that is exactly what it says lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But the crossbow is classified under the muzzleloader regs. So I would see it falling into that same category. I’m not trying to be be combative, I think it’s a good debate. I just feel like this one doesn’t pass the smell test. And as you mentioned at the end of the day it’s probably not worth the hassle that comes with the ticket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Congrats Elmo! I have 3. It doesn’t matter when they’re born, they eat into your woods time and wallet either way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s one thing to be in the woods with a legal hunting implement hunting something other than deer. It’s another to be with TWO implements clearly hunting a few species lol. I thought both crossbow and compound were equal anyhow so I’m not sure why you would need both. At least that’s what the NYCC tells me anyhow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is a spirit and letter argument here. Most officers will enforce to the spirit, which I believe would earn grow a ticket. And the letter would most likely get her off in courts. But answer me this... is it worth all the hassle and lost hunting time in the end? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Simple question to those who think they’re being cute. Would you be ok carrying a shotgun and a bow in the fall? If not... how is it any different? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

i do like to use it on the inside of the legs when skinning. zips down a lot quicker without getting into any meat.
