I'm not sure irrelevant... point is, do you agree that the range of a crossbow is greater than that of a compound given only a small amount of practice with both?

Helloooo!!! Are you ready for the answer?
Five Seasons replied to growalot's topic in CrossBow Hunting
It's hard to really understand this email with the weird paragraphs and bolding, but it almost sounds like she's saying one person can be deer hunting and another could be turkey hunting, not that a single hunter could do both. Not to mention the grouse example is odd because I can't bowhunt with a .22. It doesn't apply to your example. Furthermore, she mentions the muzzleloading privilege which isn't valid right now, so it again calls into question the legality of it. On top of that she adds opinion to the email, which almost discredits the whole thing. Personally, all seems clear as mud to me and this email maybe gives you some piece of mind, but I think the situation still stands that there isn't anything in writing that says you can and nothing that says you cannot. So ultimately we're still left with "is it worth the risk" and the answer is probably yes, because you hunt private land and wont get caught. Just a final tidbit for you, even though I know you have me blocked. I will reiterate that i make a comfortable living in compliance and regulation interpretation. I've spent my career in the gray. Specifically I have written letters from local sewer authorities stating that i could dump chemical xyz down the drain if i follow my abc process. Oh great an email, I'm all good and defensible in court right? No. While it's a "nice to have" it doesn't get you out of court in the first place, and it doesn't leave you innocent either. Heck I once had 2 different employees in Monroe county working for the same POTW give me 2 different answers. One said yes and the other said no. I swear, true story. With 2 separate companies and 2 different municipalities I've found even though the local potw was willing to take chemical xyz, it was still not allowed by the EPA. So just because someone with some level of authority tells you something, it doesn't mean anything if they truly don't know what they're talking about. -
you don't need a lead sled. just a simple rest with bipod or prone. Easily done out of some of the tree forts or a redneck blind some guys hunt out of. Heck you may not be good to a 100, but even a shooting rail that a lot of climbers and ladder stands have is going to give you a nice platform to steady the SCOPE. http://www.cabelas.com/product/TenPoint-Steddy-Eddy/745225.uts?slotId=0 or https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/oaksturdy-vital-shot-gun-crossbow-tree-stand-rest?a=1332947

sure as heck looks suspicious.

1. We bring up the "non NY legal crossbows" because the NYCC which is advocating for full inclusion is also advocating for no restrictions. It's very much a part of the conversation. 2. In this very thread i was offended by a crossbow hunter who told me the compound was 100 times easier than a crossbow and then i was offended again when I was told I should use the most efficient weapon at all times to kill deer. How can a pro-crossbow guy tell me to use the most efficient weapon and also then tell me I can choose what I want to hunt with? You're talking out of both sides of your mouth. Where's my safe space? 3. the 100 yard "speed" comment is brought up, because in order to achieve consistent 100 yard groupings with a compound at 100 yards it takes an extreme amount of practice and skill. Video after video prove that out of the box some crossbows can easily shoot good groupings at 100 yards with little to no practice.

Welcome to the forum bro. You have some catching up to do on my stance on crossbows and why I hunt. We have beaten this one to death for so long it’s not even fun anymore. But to your original point. To think speed is the only factor in this debate is just being silly. That’s all. No need for 2 threads on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

haha that's true but funny. I know what doc was getting at. I'd be fine with full inclusion if this was the cap lol

Ok so maybe it's not that much shorter, but it's also not as long at a vert. Point is, I find the awkward/clumsy argument to be invalid when compared to a compound. Just a few days ago I had deer on all sides. It's a tight stand in a notch and trying to maneuver with a nocked arrow from one side to another isn't cake. as far as movement, you're right and I'm the same way... most of the time. There are those times when I'm caught off guard sitting down and look behind or to one side to unexpectedly see a deer standing there. When I gun hunt I hold my rifle, so my movement is just turn, raise, squeeze. With archery, it's usually hanging. So if I'm sitting, it's stand, grab, turn, draw. It is hopefully rare I'm caught off guard, but it's valid sometimes for most hunters.

I will say I don't hate the way ny has it setup now. with a limited crossbow season. I'm not pushing to rescind. I'm just not a big fan of full inclusion. If it gets passed I wont lose sleep over it. Remember NYCC is pushing for no restrictions on crossbows too.
-
but it's nowhere near the draw of a compound. If you're not shooting off rails it is essentially identical to the actions of a gun. Plus many archers stand to shoot. you know what I mean. He claimed they're wide and hard to move and position a shot. geesh.

there's a point in the wind game where (if hunting from a stand) it encroaches on unethical. Even big trees are swaying and any shot at 20+ will have a little movement on it. Not downright wrong to do, but I would try stalking at close range if I absolutely had to hunt today or tomorrow.

Getting these #%!&@! tiny burrs off my gear.
Five Seasons replied to TreeHugger's topic in General Hunting
i still prefer the felt type of gear to the swish, swish. Honestly there's no good answer. It's just something to do when in the stand lol. Even more fun on a gillie suit. -
i used to be very anti-lease until lately and for all the reasons you mentioned. If your lifestyle allows you to keep the miles off it's a good deal. I'm leasing my silverado but I'll end up buying my next truck because i do keep the miles off and i'm handy with a wrench. If you're not handy or really like the new car every 3 months a lease is the way to go. But I like that I've had my pontiac g8 for 8 years and only 62k on her. She's out of warranty but i can fix most of what breaks and nothing has yet. It's a little dated in tech, but I haven't made a payment in 3 years and that's a wonderful thing too.
-
that's not entirely true. Yes sometimes the good financing deals come without the discounts. That's why you might see 0% for 60 months OR $2k cash back. You have to do the math based on what you can afford to pay monthly and it probably ends up being close. If you can pay cash on $40k truck, of course take the cash back. But maybe don't take the cash back if your interest rate nets you more than $2k in interest payments over the life of the loan. watch the price of the vehicle throughout the year and always start with the final payment and then discuss financing/leasing. This way the sticker doesn't move. Trucks this time of a year are a good example of discounted price and good rates. it's like a mortgage these days. Few can pay for it all at once, so you pay in the end to ease the financial burden.

I think many fall bear and turkey are killed by deer hunters lol. I spring hunt turkey and would approach it the same, although I imagine more run and gun in the fall as I assume they're less likely to come into a call. that would be a cool hat trick though. Good luck!
-
if it's 0% interest it's not a horrible deal if you can't afford $400 a month payments. Where they screw people is when they're taking on 4% interest to that ridiculous loan. I had a used car dealer offer me 8% a while back. I went to my bank and got 2.9%. They countered at 1.9% lol. this was only 36 months, but it's just funny what they try and get away with.
-
yes i've shot a crossbow. They're fun. Even the most pro crossbow people are not on your side with this one bud. They are not 100 times easier. did you watch the video of the autococker? Do you routinely miss deer and followup with a compound? lol. you had a counter to 1 of 6. What about the other 5 items i just proved you wrong on?
-
what's the confusion here. Leases are all about the residual value of the car when traded in. So if you don't pay 4k at signing it'll be a lot more per month. If you pay more at signing it's a lot less. Essentially whatever the sticker is vs the residual value is what you need to pay each month. Leases are all about what payment you're comfortable with. And honestly you should be putting as little down as they'll let you. If you wreck that car the next day you lose all the money down. It's not like buying. They sucker the ignorant with the low payments.

I'm sorry man, but you're just off. There's no secret i'm not a pro crossbow guy, but at least do some research before you use nonsense. 1. lol what? have you seen an autococker? what are you hunting 2' planks? 2. so don't hold it up. raise it when you're ready to shoot. just like a gun. 3. have you seen the ravin's? no limbs at all. 4. I've never had more than one shot at a deer with a compound either. 5. you have to carry it with you? again see 1 with autococker/decocker. 6. can't roll my eyes hard enough
-
so firearms all season long then right? what a joke. welcome to the age old debate. you're using poor debate tactics that have been grounded long ago bud. the crossbow is great implement for the elderly and disabled and those who don't have the time or desire to learn the vert. bow. There is nothing more to it.

I am not sure anyone thinks the crossbow has an advantage because of speed. If that's what you think, you're out on an island. It's about: drawing (no movement with a crossbow) accuracy (bipods and scopes, no anchor points and the 100 other variables with the compound) time (i don't have to hold my draw until the shot presents itself hoping my arm doesn't fall off in the process) distance (same as accuracy really, i can shoot farther with less practice)
