  1. well i guess i was thinking that they don't require gunpowder to work. so what? 98% of bowhunters don't have the time or ability to achieve those distances. I've been shooting for over 15 years and no way I'm taking that shot. 80+% of crossbow hunters can get their in an afternoon. tell me you're just arguing and don't really fail to see the difference?
  2. and honestly i don't really care, i think you know that too. But as crossbow tech increases, if for arguments sake you consider their speed the same I really just find the difference between them to be negligible. It may be a gun, but it's not a firearm. They both kill with a broadhead equipped bolt, and both require the same level of force to squeeze the trigger and fire.
  3. i'll post the non-hero pic... which isn't a great one.
  4. it's funny to hear you say this. While I agree, it's the same response us compound guys use against the crossbow. "it's completely different" lol.
  5. you didn't read the whole thing. The range of the crossbow is much easier to be effective at a greater distance with far less practice. Most can be proficient at 50 to 60 in an afternoon. To get that distance with a compound it takes a lot more practice and effort. I bet there's only a small handful of archers on this forum who will confidently shoot a deer over 40 with their compound.
  6. Sat most of the day wednesday in the near perfect conditions and didnt' see a deer. My dad sits a stand in the same group of pines about 500' from the stand i was in 70* temps last night and drills a beauty 10. I don't like posting other people's kills so I wont, but man... sometimes it's hard to be happy for others haha. In my defense he's retired and shoots a mounter almost every year now.
  7. i'll agree it's a stretch, but honestly how really different is it? Both have charged PE that only require a squeeze of a trigger to propel a bolt. Lets pretend speed and distance were the same. The only difference would be one is propelled by compressed gas and the other by compressed limbs and sting. If we're going to push the crossbow into the archery category, making exceptions to the differences, one can easily see 5 to 10 years from now the air bow having the same argument made for it.
  8. i'm willing to bet you're in the minority. Maybe I'm wrong. I bet most crossbow guys feel 60 is a good distance with their setups. Where is most compound guys draw the line at 30 or 35. That's a pretty big advantage.
  9. A lot of people give this advice and I find it very easy to say and understand, but I also feel it's unrealistic. There is such a shortage of engineers at my company. But the work isn't glamorous. You may not leave the job each day feeling like you made a big difference, but you also wont feel miserable and sick. You'll have a fat paycheck to support your hobbies and family. I've always looked at it like this. If you're miserable, hate or sick to your stomach thinking about your job then leave. But if you can tolerate it to some degree and it pays well. Don't just go on the wellfares because you don't love it.
  10. that is a beauty with any weapon and especially for your first archery. congrats man!
  11. Liberals in Illinois now look to ban antlers on all deer as it's not the deer who are violent, but their antlers.
  12. not surprising you're getting only night shots. We've had some bruisers like that over the years. They are rarely if ever spotted during the day. They get that big for a reason. Good luck.
  13. Just saw a thread that reminded me of this. It might only be second to "did you catch anything". "Where in the meat did you hit the deer?" or "I hit him high in the meat" etc. It's muscle folks. It's all muscle until it's prepped for cooking to eat.
  14. yep. and once you allow them in, there's no turning back. I do predict 5 to 10 years from now a few guys maybe regretting their stance.
  15. haha same here. and more than once i've been asked "where are you?" lol.
  16. what did i miss that was so funny? Not to mention my initial question was to the guy hunting in standing water, not Moog.
  17. of course, but hopefully there's a hole or 2 somewhere in the cavity... nothing seeps in?
  18. you can apply for a permit to allow you to use a crossbow. Just about everyone i know supports their use for elderly and handicapped.
  19. you can make a good honest living in the trades. i recommend hvac, plumbing or electrical if you have knack or desire for any of them. But I'll say this. All my buddies in those profession work a LOT. And they don't get in the woods as much as they want lol.
  20. not much. that's why i said "as close as we will get". Although getting a deer within 30 is pretty traditional.
  21. that's an interesting thought. i'd wash out the cavity good after a float through the swamp haha
  22. depending on the age of the phone that $50 is better spent on a new one. just my opinion.
  23. I’d sell one of my kids for a nice hot bowl of chili right now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
